Funny I'm home from work today since my club is not open. Our liquor license renews at the end of June, but due to the govt shutdown, we can't get the renewal until Trenton offices re-open. So, I'm on vacation, evidently.
Ok can someone explain exactly what's up with New Jersey and these dirty political stand-offs and elections?
Every time I'm there some wack-job is yapping on the radio about budget problems and neverending crysis... what gives?
NJ seems to have an affluent population and lots of industry happening. I don't get it.
There is a massive deficit in the NJ budget that needs to be closed. The blame for that falls equally in the adminsitrations of Christine Todd Whitman and Jim McGreevey. The whole battle is how to close it. Governor Corzine has his ideas and the Democratic-held State legislature has other ideas. The NJ Constitution has a provision requiring a budget in place by July 1. That didnt happen because of the impass. Rather then sign a spending extension, the Giovernor chose to allow the NJ State Goverment to shut down.Quote:

The bottom line though is that the stupid Governor swore on a stack of bibles that he wouldn't raise taxes all during his campaign. So what happenes the week he gets in office? He raises taxes. He now wants to raise them even more pushing cigarette taxes up to almost $3.00 and another cent to the sales tax. I honestly believe that the people of New Jersey just love reaching over, grabbing their ankles and letting their government stick it to them while picking their pockets. They keep electing the same ol' type of people so they get what they deserve.
I was hearing about this on KYW last week before it happened. How long, realistically, can this go on? Is there any provision for that? I'm sure there's more to it, but it almost sounds like Corzine is stomping his feet because the Legislature didn't agree with his budget. Meanwhile, the shutdown is costing the state MILLIONS a day. Go figure.
Way to extend a vacation, eh? The tourists look a bit dazed and I'm definately confused. If this goes on past the weekend I guess it's back north for me!
I know California sucks, but at least it's not New Jersey. Why anyone wants to live in Jersey is beyond me.

Because we love it here!
Personally, I love the fact that New Jersey has a horrible rep. It keeps all you people away ;D
You have to pay to get out of NJ. That has always amused me.
DW this state is corrupt to the marrow. You ask why we keep electing people like this as if there's a glut of GOOD politicians out there. The best you can do is choose the lesser of two evils.
Fair enough. As I'm sitting here in the purported "land of sunshine and opportunity," drowning in idiots and children who think they're all going to be rich and famous next week, I can certainly understand you.Quote:

LOL! Good point. I wish we had Christine Todd Whitman.
You can have her. She's part of the reason Jersey's in this mess. But yes, McGreevey's part of the reason too.Quote:

Easy, it's close to one of the best cities in the country. ;DQuote:
