how do u remember customers' names???
I've been dancing for a little over 4 years and have always had this problem!! To me, all the men in the club look alike(black, white, hispanic, asian, whatever). All I see nowadays is a big dollar sign over their heads. I'll go up to a guy and introduce myself and right away, I forget what he said his name was. I mean, I hear so many names a night!! Well, whenever the guy doesn't want a dance or anything, I walk away and end up coming right back to the same guy and introduce myself again like an idiot!! or sometimes if the guy is spending good money, i don't remember his name and i want to ask so that the next time he comes in, i can go up and say hi and get more $$. But i'm afraid to say, "What was your name again?" Don't want to offend the guy. I sometimes remember names, but don't know what faces to put those names to. any suggestions?? What's an easy way to memorize the good spending customers' names??
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
Talk to all your waitresses, make sure you tip them well for doing this and doing a good job on it. Have a little system worked out with the waitress, when you're sitting with a guy, have her introduce herself and have her ask him what his name is. That way he says it out loud, you hear it and you don't look bad. That's what I do.
Or when they introduce themselves, especially if you feel that he'll be a good customer and even if you're not sure, when he says his name, do one of a couple things, first say his name out loud first, eg: John, it's nice to meet you. People looooove hearing THEIR name and you saying it out loud helps you remember. Another tip is when someone tells you their name, if you have a good friend named John, think of him, it always helps to associate their name with someone you know and one other tip that helps me is when they say their name and I say "John, it's nice to meet you." I then visually see the name John on his forehead. I learn better by seeing it written out like when you go to functions and they have those name tags that say Hi, my name is: and you write your name in it or something like that. I always remember better if I see it written down, I don't remember as well hearing it. That's how I was in school, I learn/remember better by visual than audio. Try those and they're sure to help you. If all else fails and you want to go approach him but don't remember his name, if there's a dancer you team up with and TRUST, have her introduce herself and ask his name and then she can come back and tell you. That's all I have for now. Anyone else got anything to add?
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
One great tip for you if you think visually is to imagine their name in a visual form. What I mean is when someone tells you their name, visually imagine you are holding a big, red magic marker and you take that marker and write their name slowly right on their forehead. Just for one or two seconds after you hear their name. Imagine writing it in big letters nice and clear. What will happen is every time you look at them over the next few minutes, all you'll see is that big name in marker on their forehead. Then, the next time you see that person whether it be hours, days, weeks, or months, you'll still see that name. It works wonders!
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
^^^ Thanks for these tips. I have no idea how much money I lose weekly, monthly, and annually due to forgotten names, but I bet it's plenty.
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
I wish I was better at this. It's not that I have a bad memory - I have an excellent memory in fact - it's just my club loves to play music SO loud that 99% of the time, I can't even hear the customers' names. I don't know if it's just me, or if the other dancers have gotten used to it or what. I know I'd be a lot more successful if I could just HEAR their names!!
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
In a DW seminar, Adam said that people who remembered names earned 40% more in their lifetime.
I haven't been able to forget a name since.

This is how I remember names. I really try to say their name as much as possible (without being creepy, LOL) "It's so nice to meet you ___", "I would love a drink ___", "What do you do for a living ___", "I'll be right back ___", etc. I notice that the more I say someones name the more I remember it and it kind of becomes a habit so it comes easier and easier. And associating their name with someone I know really helps when it just pops into memory, but I confuse myself if I try to do it too much or if I'm trying too hard to think of someone to associate a name with.
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
This is how I do it, but I only do it if they've spent a butt load of money, or I know they might. Like if they say there name is Leo, I think leo the lion. Or something stupid like that. Or if they have a name like a friend of mine then I think ok this is james like my friend james.
Or i make a dumb poem like silly Billy or Stan the man. These I say to myself.
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
I can never hear the names over the music... not much chance of rembering any lol
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
I have a little notebook in the dressing room where I write down customers' names and a few details about them. I usually only write down the ones who spend money on me, although once in a great while I'll write down a custy's name who was a real jerk and a physical description of him so that I remember not to sit with him again. LOL I'll write something like "Jeff, in his 40's, from Chicago, has short brown hair and glasses, drinks gin and tonics and likes the Beatles." Then the next time I see them, they're impressed that I remember not only their name, but also details about them. It makes them feel special. If they give me their business card and they spend a good amount of money on me, sometimes I'll jot down a couple notes about them on the back of the business card after they leave. I'm a dork. LOL :D
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
These r great tips, thanks guys! I think I will also start the whole writing the guy's name down and how much he spent thing.
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
A neat little trick about memorizing.
You mind works in pictures.
So, Every one's name invokes a mental picture.
And, everyone has something unique about their look.
When you approach your mark, identyfy the unique thing about their appearance.
Now when you get to them and say their name, imagine seeing their head in the picture that their name creates with the Unique item having a special spot.
The more outrageous you can make the picture the easier it will be to remember.
Also, if you can find something in speaking to the person that is memorable, use that too.
You can practice this just by doing it to one person a night. It takes practice so don't go overboard with it in one night, or you'll forget everyone.

That's an excellent way.

So you work to maximize your income.
A rare and admirable quality. I'm not about dancing. I'm talking about the world in general.

Awesome, I am copping this trick. It's not tha hard but it is standard practice at most dungeons where people see submissives or dominantixes. New girls can check out what a guy is into beforehand and then there are no surprises. It's really easy to take a few extra seconds to do this. And it would avoid those moments where people expect you to remember "no, I just moved here 3 mo.s ago" or "Im in the music biz" or "blah blah blah"
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
These are all good tips, many of them I already use. Also, I think it's much less embarassing to ask the guy to repeat his name again if you realize you are about to make money and have forgotten it. For example, you walked up to the table and talked to him and got him back to the couch- if you can't think of his name just pretend that the music was too loud out on the main floor and that you wanted to make sure you heard correctly. Chances are, he might have forgotten your name too. It's much less tacky than say after he's spent $300.
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
i cant remember no matter how hard i try....maybe ill get the notebook thingy and start writing this stuff down as someone said above.....
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
its amazing how hard it is to recognize the guy who bought one dance a month or hell just 2 weeks ago but how easy it is to spot the fucker who tried to grab your pussy a year ago.
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
I'm real bad with this too, and I'm sure this has already been said, but here we go anyway *chuckles*
I always have another girl wander up and talk to him for a second (sometimes I'll tip her a few dollars to do it, sometimes they just do for me), introduce herself and ask what his name is. Me and my girls get along great like that though and we try to help eachother out as much as possible... well... most of us LOL
I also keep a card catalog in the dressing room of all my most frequent customers or bigger spenders (hidden in my stuff of course) this has their name, email, phone number, brief discription, likes and dislikes, sometimes I'll put how often he comes in, what days, what he drinks, etc. basicaly anything I can think of. If they have an email I email them and'll exchange a picture or two (depending on how much they spend, the naughtier the picture) if I get a pic from them I'll print it out and put it in that card catalog.
I've got a horrible memory and I've found that writing things down works the best... but then I get lazy and forget to do it sometimes LOL

Wow sounds like a great method
Re: how do u remember customers' names???
I always repeat his name the whole time I am talking to him
