work fulltime/live in one state; dance in another
I work fulltime and live in one state, dance in another. I consider dancing a hobby and the extra income goes toward bills. The club had me fill out some paperwork (nothing like a tax form); but lisecensure (sp?) paperwork. I have only worked 4 shifts so far. The club requires a min. of 3 shifts a week; but we can take leave of absences (sp?) for as long as we like and are welcome back anytime. Each shift we pay out to the house mom, floor hosts, DJ, make-up artist, and house fees. We also pay $10 to the house for each 2 for 1 dance with souviner (sp?) we sell. (these occur 2-3 times a shift during days-unsure about nights). So far i have made at least $80 and at most $260 (after payouts). Should i claim this extra income in my taxes? and if so how do i do it? do i do this in the state i reside/work fulltime in; the state i dance in; or both? One of the girls who held our new dancer orientation said "for disclaimer purposes i recommend talking to a tax advisor in your state" but later told me in private that she does not claim it. I'm afraid the IRS would somehow find out from the club (by my lisecene (sp?) paperwork; or claiming the income from payouts or whatever) and i get whacked with a huge fine owed to the government all at once. But then again if i don't have to claim, i'd rather not. i don't intend to work that often and i'm not making alot of money a shift as it is. What should i do???? any suggestions???? i did a search but i was confused by the results..so sorry in advance if this post is repetitive.... :-[

^^^ file a resident tax return with your 'home' state, file a 'non-resident tax return with any other state. One year I would up filing tax returns (and paying estimated taxes) in 6 different states. Figuring the state tax credits on the 'home' state tax returns was a real bitch.
