Warning, amatuer nights are rarely as amateur as you think. They have usually been dancing for a little while at least. Sometimes they are fixed. It really depends on the club you're in. Our amateur nights are where they send about 4-5 girls from an agency who are fairly new to dancing (but not amateurs by far) and basically.....they just dance. We don't have a cash prize, there are some places that do, but usally our amateurs do really well in tips.
seriously! at the last amature night at my club a girl competed who actually used to Work at my club!!! wtf? she didn't win though...Quote:

yeah, definitely give it a try.
don't let the non-amatures intimidate you.
the same night that the girl who had worked there competed there was a girl who got on stage and literally froze. like no visable motion what so ever for what seemd like 10 minutes (actually probably about 45 seconds followed by 3 minutes of awkward hip swaying and knee bending). she had more guys tipping than any other girl that night.
heh. go figure ::)
that'll propabaly be me! Haha but if I dont go I won't know what i' could of gained. Do you think I should try and put a routine together so I don't freak out or just go wing it? Thanks
I have gone to amatuer nice 3 times and couldn't get on stage once. I've done some private dances in the past but couldn't even stand up at the club. I knew people in the club, it probably didn't help my nerves but one day i will do it. I've been trying new things and a new path in life, unfortunately i'm finding it much easier think about than to actually get up and do. Time will tell..

Haha! I just replied to your other post about auditioning, saying go in on an amateur night!;)
When you go, try really hard to not talk nervously the whole time. Sit quietly and just watch and listen to the other dancers. Pretend you are there as an observer, and make mental notes of everything that is going on.
When you have a question ask the house mom or the DJ (if he is in a convienent location to do so). Don't rely on the other contestents or house dancers to help you out. They all will see you as an inconvienence at best and a threat at worst.
Don't bring a friend to do the contest with you.
Do bring friends to sit and cheer in the audience for you (this will help your chances of winning).
Don't bring friends who will make you nervous or uncomfortable. Bring the kind of friends who would support your decision to strip.
Pick out your outfit well before the contest. Make sure you are comfortable in the clothes you have chosen. Check out your look from all angles in the mirror, and check out your backside by using a second mirror. Make sure your outfit is flattering from all sides and postions. So many times I have bought clothes that looked great while I was standing straight up with shoulders thrust back, but the minute I let my abs relax I get rolls:P. Pants especially do this to me over the hips.
Try dancing in your shoes before hitting the stage. If you can't move in your shoes while strutting around your kitchen, how do you think it will feel up on that stage with the lights flashing and being 3 feet above the ground? If you have a pair of cute heels, go ahead and try using them instead of "stripper" shoes. Avoid the shoes with pointy toes... way too hard to dance in!
Don't try to audition for a part in a broadway musical. Don't be too flashy, or wear too elaborate of a costume. It will just mess with your ability to perform for the customers. Maybe wear a hat or bring a feather boa to stand out, but don't try fire eating or anything like that. Unless you are a professional contortionist, then go for it!
If the rules say something like "Do not fondle your breasts" but you noticed that two other girls were breaking that rule, don't assume that you can break that rule too. There are likely dynamics at work here that you are unaware of. Oh, and it could ruin your chances of ever getting hired in the future.
Tip the DJ to play the correct song. $5 should do it in most cases. Othewise you may end up dancing to the "Star Wars Theme" or some other equally bad song to strip to. Tip him again after you get off stage another $5 for actually palying what you requested. Most everyone hates the amatuer contest- DJ's included.
Stay sober!! I know that you are underage and won't be served drinks, but I've seen many girls that bring their own, and then promptly get kicked out. It makes a very bad first impression to show up drunk and underage.
thank you so much! I feel alot better already! I'm going in on this Sat night ! YIpeee
Paris,
You said "Don't be too flashy, or wear too elaborate of a costume. It will just mess with your ability to perform for the customers."
I didn't want to wear regular street clothes. I found this outfit to wear tonight.
It is a blue skirt and top set with bue fringe with some little gold button things on the front. It is a little flashy but would be great to dance in.
Maybe I should just wear a little skirt and top instead. Now I'm confused.
/:O
I would definately tell you to know of have a really good idea of the music you want to dance to. Dont ask the DJ to pick something for you. You might end up dancing to 2 Live Crews Hootchie Mama song like I did. Not good. 2 Live Crew+being uncomfortable and not knowing how to dance=total embarassment. I ended up winning but I still cringe thinking back on that.
wear something you are comfortable in and that makes you feel sexy.Quote:

I was so dissapointed.... Hope this doesn't happen to you
I did it!!! I didn't win but I did it and I had a blast !!! ;)
I didn't get any prize or a job offer but I figure it was good practice for my first time. Now I know that I can do it and it doesn't bother me to be naked out there.
By the way all of the dancers were sooo very cool. Anyway I have another contest I'm thinking of going to tonight.
Thank you ladies for all of the support you give to all of us newbies. I realized last night that I can do this and I like it, I just need to learn how to dance and I will be fine....
