OMG.. i HATE Nicklecrap.. seriously I kill any DJ that tries to play it for me.
The problem is the radio stations and the DJs with little or no imagination only play the whiny, slow shit that isn't any good, and they play it over and over and over again.
Like their first big hit, "How You Remind Me". The first time I ever heard it was when the day manager at a club I worked in a few years back was trying to tell me I needed to play different music for a certain girl, and went and got the CD from the doorman. After I played it I wrote in big huge letters "NICKELBACK SUCKS!!", so I would never play them again.
Imagine my surprise when later I heard a great song from that same CD--one you will never hear on the radio since they are rocking instead of groaning...
Some of their stuff, like what I play but I never hear anyone else but myself and a couple of friends of mine out of state play, is quite good.
They have some songs that are actually hard-driving rock, instead of whiny, groaning schlock.
I don't expect you guys to change your minds, and I believe you have the right to express yourselves, but remember that what your DJ or the radio plays doesn't necessarily reflect what the best (or good) songs by a particular band might be.
I'm guessing they play the whole craptacular Nickleback catalog every night at my club. IMO, they don't have any good songs. Their lyrics are extremely misogynistic, and even though I am a dancer I do not dig that kind of shit.
And musically, they are average at best.
Re: The singer- A friend of mine used to bray like a goat every time Nickelback was played...Hahahaha.
There are a few OK songs, their composition is tight...I guess they're our generation's Bon Jovi? Heheheheheh.
I like their song... Here Comes The Next Contestant. Well, I'm kinda tired of it. But I still like it. :)
I like them well enough, but they arent as overplayed around here anymore...
~hhhiiiiiiiiiissssssss~
yeah, i'm with you....no i DO want my nickleback!!!!!!hahahahahahahhaha they suck!
I cant stand the guy's voice.I hate every song I have heard them sing.Ugh.It'd be a better world without having to hear that voice and their panzy ass lyrics
i love nickel back, you just have to not listent to their main stream shit, i listen to alot of their old stuff, before silver side up, and its good. anything sucks if its over played.
Also, the radio, MTV, and dumbass DJs everywhere pick the whiny, groaning stuff every fucking time, and pass up the rocking songs that nobody ever gets to hear.
Like I say, I used to hate them, and vowed never to play them myself. Then I heard a few really good songs, that I'm guessing none of these lame ass DJs are playing--it sounds like an entirely different, and much, much better band.
But there's no point in trying to convince anyone who's mind is made up--I'd have laughed at anyone who tried it that night after I played "How You Remind Me (of the last time I had to vomit)", or maybe just shot them if firearms were available.
And yeah the lead singer is an ugly dude, that's for sure, lol...
I kinda dig Nickleback, the deeper cuts are usually the best
Sigh.
First of all; the songs some think are mysogynistic are actually about the person writing them's anger at the abuse he's having to see a woman endure. Maybe he wrote that a little to deep for you to understand, eh?
I don't understand why people judge this band on the commercial tracks. As Djoser and Blade said, listen to the rest of their albums--both old and new. They pay respect to those that have gone before, and you can hear them maturing in their music. Don't be so judgemental!!
Their best song ever: Woke Up This Morning. It fuckin' ROCKS. Balls to the wall.
Their cover of "Saturday Night's All Right (for a fight)" for the Charlie's Angel's II Soundtrack kicks ass also.
OOps! Forgot "See You At The Show". How many of my girlfriends does THAT remind me of? Too many to count!!! I had to giggle.
My review of their latest album; For All The Right Reasons:
NICKLEBACK
Here's the review I posted on ED Forums. I know most of you know some of the stuff I posted; but just in case; here ya go:
OH my God.
So,they got a new drummer.
No, they got a new ATTITUDE.
Ignore the sappy; sounds-the-same-as-their-last-album songs like "Photograph" (I like it but; you know....) and check THESE babies out!!!NONE of these are slow except one.
Follow You Home--Recorded with Billy from ZZTopp (that's his guitar in the solo if you couldn't guess; and his low growly voice after) and the vocals Chad exibits reminds me of Cherone. Very good for club play (check out the lyrics....OOOOOh yeah)
Fight for All The Wrong Reasons--Great harmonies and rockin'; I love it for the lyrics ("It's kind of hard to leave when you're going down on me..."); if you have ever stayed with someone JUST for the sex this is your ANTHEM. Funny as hell. Dosen't take itself too seriously.
Animals--same sorta theme; it's about two high school lovers being wild about sex and getting caught with their pants down...brings back memories ("then she said that's my dad outside the car!")
Savin' Me--(the slow one) this is supposedly Metallica-inspired; slower but heavy and again, I like the harmonies; could still get away with it in the club at the right time. It's about knowing the value of time....
Next Contestant--IT"S ABOUT A STRIPPER so of course you have to listen and laugh. He's coming from a boyfriend who's working at the club point of view. WHo among us cannot relate to that?
Side Of A Bullet--ok; THIS one is the one that got my respect. Seems they have been hanging out with Pantera for awhile;and when Darryll was killed they wrote a song about it. KILLER KILLER KILLER. His (Dimebag's) brother gave them a guitar solo of his to use in the song; and N's drummer and guitarist stepped up to the task mightily. Sorry, I am unabashadly in LOVE with this song. Take a listen to the lyrics. His anguish is palatable.
Someone That You're With--quite less heavy but fast; fun; and very energetic. Always good to try.
Rockstar--another good club song; seems a lot of guys can relate----a great bet!
There are only 3 other songs on the album; my girlfriend loves Far Away but I'm just not in the mood for it right now. First album in ages I will go out and get the WHOLE THING. If they don't get a Grammy I will be very dissapointed (even as rigged and stupid as the Grammys are...)
Have fun darlin's!
*for the record; I did go see them in concert.
Kiss my ass; they fuckin rocked the house. And I am the biggest VH fan on the face of the earth; not easily impressed.
I don't love them, but sometimes I have to kill the craving.
I'm sorry but I like the song animals.
And usually when people go "OMG THIS Band sucks!" You wind up finding out their taste in music is SO much crappier than everyone else's.
Which I find funny.
It's best to keep an open mind, when dealing with music or the arts, even if sometimes it's tough to do. I used to hate all modern, non-representational visual arts, without exception. Now I know better, even if most of it still leaves me cold (and wondering how the artists manage to collect so much money for it, lol).
What I have found is that everyone seems to have certain particular songs, bands, or styles that just rubs them totally the wrong way--even people with discriminating tastes can be like this.
For me--in addition to insultingly vapid and sexist male rap singing--it is the whiny, groaning male vocals that was so typical of the alternative rock scene for the last 8 years or so--and is epitomized in the song "How You Remind Me", which is why I hated it so much and swore I would never again play Nickelback.
When the band DROPS this style, and remembers they are a ROCK band, they can be fucking good, lol. This is my opinion, and it was changed after I had writtien off the band entirely and drastically. We all have our opinions, of course, and no one is ever always right or wrong.
Let's remember that everyone has their likes and dislikes, and keep it mutually respectful.
Chacon a son gout...
Haa Haa.Ha. Funny.Hilarious::) I only like crappy music.:-X I dont like Nickelback:DQuote:

I fucking hate Billy Joel--can't be in the same room or even house it's being played in!
One of my favorite roommates of all time (a delectable young woman who regrettably gave up dancing because of a bad knee), absolutely had to play Billy Joel when she was depressed. So much for me being around to console her, lol...
Despite this glaring discrepancy in musical taste, we share a passion for the same kind of sensuous techno, my favorite genre.
I finally had to tell her I hated Billy Joel, one night, as I leaped to throw shoes and a shirt on and escape as soon as humanly possible. but I was diplomatic and respectful as I could be under the circumstances, so she didn't take offense.
