Injuries
Ok, as the love of my life prepares to go into dancing, and the captain of my favorite baseball team prepares to have knee surgery ( I weep for 'Tek :'( ) any tips on how to prevent injuries? Not just the acute stuff like falling off the pole, but the wear and tear that can build up over time. My fiancee is young (eighteen), and I'm a little concerned of what may be years of dancing in spike heels may take its toll on her ankles, knees, back, etc. Not all at once, just that over time things wear out. Any experiences with wear and tear injuries and, more importantly, any tips on how to prevent them while still being an effective dancer?
Thanks, on behalf of both of us.

Re: Injuries
The best way to prevent longterm damage to her back, knees, joints, etc? Don't dance.;D

Re: Injuries
I wish my boyfriend was as concerned as you!
I guess making sure she has a healthy diet would help; calcium for your bones and oily fish is good for joints to keep them good and strong but other than that I cant think of much else - not falling of the pole would be good too!

Re: Injuries
Stretch every day and at the begining of every shift.
Have strong muscles that support your joints.
Eat well, and do your own research about having healthy joints. In general, lots of healthy fats/oils are good for the joints, apple cider vinegar helps prevent arthritis, and some people swear by glucosomine plus condroitin.
Arnica gel and pills help prevent bruising, and power bars are great mid-shift snacks.

Re: Injuries
I'm not a stripper, but I have had some knee issues from standing all day and recently I started taking Osteo bi flex (you can find it at Wal-Mart, Target, anywhere) and it seems to have helped with the pain in my knees. It's made specifically for joints and regenerating cartilage and stuff. She should try it, it might help even a little bit.

Re: Injuries
Practice Yoga and Don't drink on the job. Too many dancers drink while working which greatly increases your chance of injury. Stick to water or diet soda.
