san francisco ok to start as newbie?
I am VERY new to all of this but I've been learning a lot from all of you just by reading these boards. I know the question has been asked about where a new dancer should start in SF and it appears that Gold Club is looking the best. However, I'm going to be leaving for school in about a month and I plan on dancing in the fall while I'm away at school. I was wondering if it is totally pointless to go to a club in SF and do an audition as a practice. I figure that I would aquire more experience that way which would be good for when I choose the club I REALLY want to work at while I'm in school. Does that make sense or am I totally off base with this idea? Also, will a manager (in most cases) just flat out refuse me a job if I tell them I will be leaving in a month?-because I would like to work a little before I go away to school to become more confident as a dancer. I don't need to make lots of money right now because I currently have a day job so even clubs that don't do well with bringing in the big bucks I'm fine with just as long as it would be a good learning experience. I am under 21 and I only feel comfortable starting out with topless dancing right now, any suggestions or comments? Thanks.
Re: san francisco ok to start as newbie?
I just left San Francisco this summer because it was not enough compensation for what we dancers have to deal with. I suppose Gold Club is a lot less handsy, and if you were gonna start out anywhere in SF, that would be the place. But I would suggest a newbie to start out in a more conservative area until they get their footing. I had started out at Cheetah's in San Diego, worked there for 2 years, then decided to move up to SF. After 2 years at Cheetah's, I thought I was a pro, or at least had the hang of it, but my first day in S.F. almost had me traumatized. Maybe it was just that day because most of my days there aren't so intense, but just about every guy wanted a blow job or no dance. I almost hauled ass back to San Diego, but at the end, I stuck it out. It took some time getting used to and I worked there off and on for a year, but I can't imagine starting out there, although some girls do. I guess it just depends on you, and the club that you choose to work. I don't think you'd have that problem at Gold Club.
Re: san francisco ok to start as newbie?
I think as long as you let management know that you're not planning on starting right away, it shouldn't be a problem. Do your audition before you tell them that, though, because they might send you away and tell you to come back when you're ready to start.
I would also recommend checking out Hustler, which is one of my old clubs. I worked there last week while I was visiting and it wasn't half bad.

Re: san francisco ok to start as newbie?
While I have not personally worked in S.F. clubs I have been to several of the top clubs and OMFG I could never, ever work in S.F :O Ofcourse I am a prude( ie- I prefered low/no contact) by stripper standards- so keep that in mind when considering the following comments.
I am sure there are some exceptions but from what I have seen in regards to S.F. unless a woman is 100% willing to be a straight up hooker (who happens to do a stage show here and there) then I suggest dancers completely skip working clubs in S.F.... the city is fabulous on many other levels.

If you haven't worked in any of the clubs, than I wouldn't recommend posting on a bulletin board where someone is asking advice on working at one!
I have worked in my share of SF clubs and speak from personal experience when I say that although there is medium to high mileage by many dancer's standards, it is possible and even (gasp) standard to make a decent living without being a "straight up hooker."
What clubs did you visit? Mitchell Brother's? New Century?
Re: san francisco ok to start as newbie?
i work in san francisco at a small club and i have no idea what the rest of you are talking about in terms of men demanding blow jobs. sure, some will ask but don't all dancers get some kind of request like this now and then?
my club is a topless club with very little contact.
as for the gold club, i do not recommend it as a newbie. i auditioned there knowing nothing about stripping and thankfully didn't get hired. the managers expect the girls to know the game about dancing and hustling well, as it is an upscale club. i recommend a smaller club. hustler is a good starter. because of the alcohol laws in san francisco you will not be able to work in the topless clubs if you are under 21. i haven't had any experience in a nude club so i can't recommend any in sf. you might want to try centerfolds.

As I said before I am sure that there are some exceptions to the being a hooker in S.F..... I'm quite sure you and your friends are fantastic entertainers if you are working in that enviroment and doing well with all the prostitution to compete with.... it can't be easy and I give you much respect if ya'll can do it.
I just don't think it's the best city to start working in for a girl who has never even done an audition before and isn't even comfy with working nude. Competition with openly conducted prostitution is hard even for seasoned dancers much less a total newbie.
Next up... I don't think it is unreasonable to offer my experiences of being in several S.F. clubs on numerous occasions over the past 10 years. As a dancer who worked all over the country for close to a decade I know have enough experience to get a basic idea of what it is like to work in clubs which I have visited a dozen times. Not to mention I know dancers who have in fact worked these clubs as well.
I offered up what I knew to Norcalgirl based on those experiences.... I though that was what we did here in Club Chat... share with eachother what we can on various clubs. Guess not
I am going to answer your questions as to which clubs I have visited in S.F. over the years... then I am done with this thread b/c well I already offered up what I knew and I'm not in the mood the get flamed like that for just trying to help a newbie ... anyway here is the list:
MBOT
Gold Club
Hustler
most of the Deja Vu clubs
Have a great night.

Do you work at the I? I loved it there. A great starter club...I didn't fit in there very well, but the girls and staff are a blast to work with. I highly recommend it.
As for the OP--I think pretty much any North Beach club in SF is good for a newbie dancer. Centerfold's is the bigger nude club in NB, but there are a couple of other smaller ones, too...if you opt for nude dancing and want to stay away from the "extras" scene, don't try any nude clubs off of Broadway--that's just asking for trouble!!

yes, i do work at the i. it was the best club for me to start at.
i just thought of another club you could work it--the lusty lady! it's a peep show format and it's nude but it's behind glass so you don't interact with the customers.
Re: san francisco ok to start as newbie?
When I started dancing, I got hired at the Gold Club. I thought it was fine, but had no other experience to compare it to.
I'm going to get back into dancing, and would like to know if anyone has an opinion about Broadway Showgirls.

I worked a Broadway Showgirls for 3 nights and I thought it was next to impossible to make decent money. I felt like I was always on stage and even though I am a damn good hustler and pretty good looking, it was TOUGH to sell dances. I worked my ass off for $200 and had to stand in a line for a half an hour to check out and leave the club. The DJ is a dickhead.Totally rude , demanding and degrading even though I tipped him well.My opinion is that it's a fun place to hang out, but I wouldn't try to work there again.
Re: san francisco ok to start as newbie?
what is gold club like to work at? i thought that once i got more dancing experience and hustling practice i'd move from hungry i to there.
Re: san francisco ok to start as newbie?
Gold Club and Hungry I are topless clubs that don't hire any dancers under 21. Hustler and Showgirls might hire you though. If you do have to work at a nude club because of your age, start at the top (Centerfolds) before you have to bother with the smaller ones down the street. Good luck, and feel free to pm me if you need any 411.

I liked the Gold Club. The girls ranged from nice to very nice. I know we're not at the club to make friends, but that type of environment is really great.
The bouncers, the DJ (Choo Choo), and the house moms were all wonderful. I never worked at any other club, so my hustling skills were not great, but it worked out.

I've heard quite a bit about Hungry i--how do you like it there? I've never been there.
Re: san francisco ok to start as newbie?
I have never danced in any of the SF clubs, but visited some as a customer after I'd popped my stripping cherry in New York.
I'm sure that conditions at various clubs change from month to month, but when I left (12/05) I thought that if I had or wanted to strip again, I'd do the dayshift or nights during "less desirable" nights at the Gold Club, purely as an economic proposition.
Personally, I think the Gold Club attracts te highest percentage of both out-of-towners and native Bay Area men. I recomend that you read the Hustle Hut to best prepare yourself for what you'll encounter.
Re: san francisco ok to start as newbie?
For what it's worth I gotta say that based on my club travels in S.F. I must agree that the Gold Club appeared to be the "cleanest" of the bunch.

ha--the first time i auditioned at gold club (and didn't get hired, thankfully) none of the girls even looked at me. i don't need to make friends but i don't want other dancers making my life hell (i've heard some horror stories from other dancers). i do have the dancerwealth home study course and am now a top earner at the hungry i yet am still learning the hustling thing. i read sales and body language books when i'm not doing homework.
i love the hungry i. it's classy yet down-to-earth. it's a close-knit place and we have a lot of fun. nothing shady.
Re: san francisco ok to start as newbie?
Hi Mina Loy,
It sounds like the Hungry i is working well for you. Would it be OK by you for me to stop by on one of your shifts so I can check it out?
My husband gave me the green light to start dancing again, and being that I'm 38, I'd better hurry up (I'm Asian, though, so I can pass for late 20's). I worked at the Gold Club last year, but am interested in trying a different club.
Feel free to PM me about this.
Re: san francisco ok to start as newbie?
I miss Hungry I! I stopped working there because a very close friend of mine works there, and I didn't want us to start to clash esp. since she drinks too much while she's working. But I'm probably comming back anyways since I've been taking a long break. Just for a bit, then it's back off to Hustler. Or maybe Gold Club, they've been pulling in major $$$ lately. Even on dayshifts.
