Arrrrrgh! Thank god I started stripping!
I was working in a pharmacy where I've been working for the past 2 years, which made me one of their longest employed casual staff there. But recently my boss took part in a franchise and we became a supermarket type pharmacy, and due to that change, everything changed. None of the staff were happy anymore, all the stock in the shop had become cheap and tacky, the manager became a complete utter bitch (And I used to LOVE her), the type of customers changed and a shift usually involved watching someone cry or being made to cry, getting the crap abused out of us by customers and something going wrong.
They made it so only the managers have access to do things on the tills like OPEN IT WITHOUT DOING A SALE, and EXCHANGING, CHARGING TO ACCOUNTS, DELETING UNWANTED ITEMS OUT OF A SALE...but managers were never on during the casual shifts which is night time and weekends, so whenever myself or my friends were on, it was incredibly stressful.
My boss had gone overseas for 2 months and had placed me at another pharmacy because he knew I needed a break from all the bullshit, but the moment he left and the manager was put in charge of the roster she says "You either work here or you won't be working at all."
So I get dragged back in there, constantly put on the registers (Which is a form of punishment). On Sunday I had a customer who wanted to use a voucher which wasn't valid yet...
"Sorry but those aren't valid until the 10th"
"Well it would have been nice if the girls had informed me of that before they gave it to me!" (She was very erratic and practically screaming)
"Sorry but it does say so on the voucher and there are signs all around the store"
"You don't have to be such a rude little bitch about it"
"Well, uh, neither do you."
She then asked for my name and I really felt like I had nothing to hide so I told her even though I knew making up a name would mean I'd never get in trouble, but regardless I told her and I left a letter for the managers...
Last night my boss's brother pulled me aside during my shift and asked me to go into the office with him and another supervisor who had no idea what was going on, and he started asking me stuff like "do you think you handled the situation correctly? how should you have handled this? no matter what the customer is always right and now because of this, she's never going to come back here, we've just lost a customer, and i can't have staff here that are handling customers so poorly, so i've given you no shifts next week, and i'm putting you on a break. Hand in your uniform in the next week, and if you wish to reapply for a job sometime in the future when you've got your head sorted, you're welcome to."
The supervisor's jaw hit the floor.
My pharmacy is in a really busy, dodgy area of the city and is known for being dangerous and full of drunks and drugged up psychos. We get customers like this all the time and if you can't tell them where to go they stay in the store and hassle customers. I handled it nicely compared to how many other staff members would have handled it and compared to how I would react normally. But honestly, how can any customer walk into a store and think it's acceptable to call the sales staff bitches? Why do we want customers like that?! They never buy anything, they just come in for a fight. And I have witnesses to the entire situation who are absolutely disguisted I've been fired and are now writing up their resignation letters because they don't want to work in an environment like that, especially when I was well respected there and they know that I've put in a million times more effort and care than many of the fulltime staff, yet after 2 years they treat me like crap.
The thing that pisses me off more is it wasn't even my boss that fired me, and nobody is sure that he actually knows I've been fired because everyone is like, there is no way he'd ever fire you, he would scream at you, give you the crappiest jobs in the world, but he'd never ever get rid of you. And that's the thing, I was never even given a WARNING! Something so small that happens everyday was completely blown out of proportion.
But apparently they've been looking for someone to fire to make an example out of and this was the best reason they could find to get rid of anyone.
And true, I was planning to quit very soon, but I was waiting for my boss to return so I could at least talk to him about it as he normally tries to work out any issues I have, but they beat me to it...
:'(
Sorry for the rant, but I'm just so frustrated that this is the way it happened! As if I'm ever going to reapply. The other girls and the pharmacist were just like, look at it this way, it's going to cause the biggest fuss and they're going to lose a lot of staff over this, so it's really going to wake your boss up to how unhappy everyone is, and they've done you a favour, you were still scared about resigning and upsetting your boss, but now the dirty work's been done for you.
I guess...
