Country ID over state ID?
my mother (all knowing and powerful) told me yestserday that bush signed something that will make all U.S. residents required to get a country issued identification card. this is saying (coming from my mother's mouth) that a drivers liscence will no longer be accepted as a valid form of ID (i'm not sure if she was talking about at local bars and gas stations or world wide travel) but that we would have to get a national ID.
i have a few questions about this and i'd like to know if anyone else has heard of it and i just missed that thread (my computer crashed last week and i've been out of the loop) and any thoughts or fact.
1. will we still need a drivers liscence or will it just be an all in one ID?
2. so they want us to have good identification, but isn't that what state issued ID's and passports and SSN cards and birth certificates for? what exactly are they doing now?
3. could this be a ploy for control of us citizens? perhaps it is to seperate illegal aliens from us citizens. this seems like a drastic measure to send people back over the borders..
4. due to my ignorance do other countries do this? i know we all have to have passports if we plan to go country to country, but i'm talking a form of ID much like a driver's liscence issued by your country, rather tthan a passport.
i'm going to ask my dad if he knows anything about this (he's in the air force) but he's away on some mission and i can't really talk to him every day so i thought i would bring this up on SW. i think it is strange that our current form of identification is about to be changed. i know people like to try and fake id's but there is always something else you can ask for like the birth certificate or a passport or SSN card, but what prompted the governement to issue this change, or is the news getting ahead of its self again?
i'd really like to read some more thoughts on this subject. here is one more thing to keep me up at night. yay. :-\
