Are you in it for the long haul?
When I began stripping, I thought I'd being doing this one year, tops. I'm going on year 3 and plan to do another 5. The job is fun. Yet, I see so many girls get hired and leave after a few months, never to return. I guess they have their reasons.
I've worked in upscale clubs with women in their 40s who look great and bank. If I maintain my appearance, I feasibly could do this for another 15.
What are your plans for your stripping career? When do you plan to leave, if ever?

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
I picked lifer, but I should qualify: I plan on dancing until I can't anymore, but it will always be part time for me- maybe only 1 day a month or something eventually.

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
I'm at least 5 yrs, although it's truely hard to say since I just started 3 months ago, but I'm really enjoying it so far, the club I work at is awesome, and I want to do this until I just can't stand it anymore (like my 'real' job) and when I can't stand dancing anymore I'll probably take some time off and go back to it, this job offers such a great opportunity for women (and men too) to save money, have flexibility to watch their kids grow up, go to school, do whatever you want. There's not too many jobs out there that you can do that and still make great money at it!

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
I always said "ill strip for 5 years" and save for a house, pay my uni fees, put some money aside.
THEN I discovered travel, so instead of investing in a house, Ive been backpacking every possible moment, which since Im hardly in 1 country for too long theres not much point buying a house. Specially with the market as it is!
But high interest rates are GREAT if you are investing your money :)

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
I have specific financial goals - paying some things off first and also getting a decent nest egg started. I plan on dancing for at least a year: at the 1 year anniversary, I'll reevaluate. If I'm still enjoying it and earning well and the body is holding up (both appearance-wise and wear-n-tear wise), I'll definitely continue.
I know that seems pretty minimal compared to many of you, but I am a late starter, after all. But I could see continuing for another 3 years or so, if it's in the cards.

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
I'm at 5 yrs now...own my home, 4 cars(my husbands, mine, and the 2 classics he's restoring), and all my debts (except the house and car) paid off. Now I'm padding the bank account so I can go back to school and get my masters, as well as taking more modeling gigs and cutting back on my days at the club. Trying to ease my way out. Working on my own entrepeneuial(I'm not awake enough to spell) website(nothing to do with dancing...not an adult site or anything!!lol)
So I'm hoping to be out in a year or so. My tolerance level has really dropped....I just dont have it in me to do this much longer!

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
I'm at almost 8 years...no savings, no house...I just started my life over again. I'm happy with how things are going. I selected 5+ years, because that's where I'm at, but I can easliy see myself as a Lifer!

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
Ehh, when I first started I figured I'd pay some bills, save a few bucks and quit after a couple years. That was in 1995. hehe.
After a couple years I decided to go to college to have something to fall back on, so I did that and danced through college.
Along the way I figured I didn't want to dance past 30 or so, and started planning my departure. I started selling outfits as part of that plan.
Around 30 I was still happy dancing and making money, so didn't see the need to quit yet.
Late last year I started thinking it was time to move on, got a job and laid off dancing.
I guess I just needed a break because I'm excited about dancing again and looking forward to going back - even though I'm now living in the stripper hellhole of the universe. hehe
I won't ever be a fulltime dancer again, but I guess I can't stay away entirely. Even though I am not in a good area for strippers, I will still have fun dancing here. And I can always travel ;D
So I reckon that means I'm in it for life - or at least until they throw my ass off the stage :P

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
I checked less than a year, I need to start doing something else. This was supposed to be a two year gig (to save up for then go through school, which I did) but I'll be seeing year three come to a close soon.
More importantly, the fun I used to have at work is starting to elude me. I figure I should get out while I still have fond memories of this biz rather than wait until I'm bitter and hate it.
I'll probably be running back to my stilettos three months after I get a "straight" job!

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
lifer....until I can't do it anymore physically.....
or some super rich guy sweeps me off my feet, but I don't see that happening.

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
I picked 5+ years. I wont be out of school untill Im about 26 which means that I have 5 more years from my 22nd birthday this month to work as a stripper. I added and extra year or two to ease out and settle into a job I really like. I couldnt see myself doing it forever but things and situations change for me like the wind.

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
Lifer here!
I remember having a conversation with my husband in 2001 about how much longer I planned on dancing. He asked me if I still wanted to be dancing at 35? I answered "I don't think so." Well, I'm still dancing and I'll be 37 in November;).
I'm not doing it so much for the money now. I can live just fine off of other income I have, I just like the challenge of "closing the sale" as well as having extra money for fun stuff like travel and fixing up my house.

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
i have been dancing for 5 years now, its crazy becuase it doesnt feel that long. i plan on doing it untill i have totally had enough. i dont have any assets to show for that dancing sinc ei had a bad drug episode that put me 15,000 in the hole. i recently paid that off and now i can finally start trying to pay off my car and start saving for a house.

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
Lifer!!!!!!! I love my job. I'd probably kill myself if I had to sit in an office in front of a computer 9-5, five days a week. When I started dancing, I was "sure" I was only gonna do it for about a year, but here I am, dancing for four and a half years! Basically, I just gotta take care of myself so when I'm older, I'll still be able to do it. And save my money. We had a dancer who was 39 retire and she'd been dancing since she was 17. I said, "damn, I bet ;you got a ton of money saved!" and she said, "Nope, it all went up my nose."

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
I think I'm in it for life, much to my parents displeasure. When I started I was so broke that I couldn't buy both food and gas for my car to go to my old job. For the first year I saved very obsessively while keeping my quality of life almost the same as when I was broke. I plan to dance until I cant do it anymore physically and most likely by then I'll own a home or more as well as securing my final years.
-
Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
It's hard to say. I'm 25, so I'm going to say at least five more years. But I know stripping will always be too attractive to eliminate completely. It's like an insurance policy. I feel a little freer to take risks and do my own thing because I know that no matter what happens I can always drop into a club and make some quick cash--for a night or for a month or whatever.
-
Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
I've been dancing for 6+ years, and have definite plans for another 3 years. After I have children I'll need to re-evaluate my situation and see if I want to continue dancing or move on to something else. So I'm not sure if I'm a lifer yet, but I wouldn't rule it out.
-
Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
Lifer here! I know we bitch about a lot of things on here (hey it's where I come to vent)...but all in all this job is great! And as a mother now.. I can't think of a more flexible schedule..I'll keep my heels on as long as my body allows. Or until I win the lottery!
-
Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
always said id only do this on the short term....but deep down i guessed i was in it for the long haul. 4 years later and still i have nothing to my name...no house....no investments etc, i really shouod get on top of that, but at the same time, life has been fun, i appreciate what few things i have, and everything i have experianced.
i should work more full time to really make a go of it. but honestly, i dont think i want to quit this industry, ill always have my foot in the door of somewhere, even if it is only part time. :)

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
I checked "5 years." I've been dancing one year and am pretty pleased with what I've got to show for it at 25-- I've got a little money saved, and have had the time to work on some projects that are really close to my heart. I don't want to quit before I've bought a house and set myself up in business. I also enjoy the challenge of keeping myself physically and mentally fit enough to do this into my 30's.
It's hard to see myself as a lifer though. I'm a pretty introverted person, and the job still takes a lot out of me. It's possible it'll get easier in time, but right now I do look forward to a time where I don't have to be the life of the party every night on command.

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
When I first started dancing I wish I had SW. I didn't know what I was doing or how long I would be doing it. That was back in 96'. The years have flown....
Im in school full time right now and barely working. I have saved some money, but the funny thing is it seems when looking back its never enough money saved. What one thinks is alot can be nothing to you. I dont think I have enough saved..but others could disagree.
Im in a bad spot right now, and I am not going to be able to get out of it anytime soon. I am in a bad spot in alot of ways.
I would lke to get out of dancing completely..but it is not quite time yet.
I checked the Im not sure box, but really it seems like I am a lifer.

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
I think I've already been in it for a long haul, it's been 12 years since I first set foot in a club. I haven't danced that entire time, but I have the majority of it. I'm 32 now, so I'd say my days are numbered.
-
Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
I plan on doing it while going through nursing school. I haven't even applied to a program yet so I'm hoping to hang up the dancing shoes in about 4 years, 5 at the most.

Re: Are you in it for the long haul?
I never had a set amount of time for myself when I danced. I danced for 2 years, 6 days a week. Stopped dancing for a year. Then danced for another year but only 3 to 4 days a week. I've been retired for years now and I dont see myself ever going back to it. Though I miss it greatly sometimes and I suppose I always will. As they say, once a dancer, always a dancer...... thats why I'm buying my pole for my house....lol.
