Portland, portland, tacoma?
Good day ladies,
This is a wonderful site! I'm a friggin' addict.
I'm looking into the business, and was wondering what sort of clubs would be good to start with. There are a few threads already on Portland; however, I felt the need to make my own.
I live just out side of Oregon- and I have a terrible time making decisions. I'll be 21 in October, and curious as to where to start. I have signed up for a "stripping 101" class (which was reccomended in the newbie section). It starts in a few weeks; (I thought that might give me a boost of courage). The class ends about a week before my 21st.
Should I look into clubs now, or wait for the class to end and be a bit closer to 21?
Should I join up with a few amateur nights before calling some of the advertisements?
Should I even call on the ads in the Oregonian?
It always makes me nervous when I reverse search a number, and it's blocked. Esp with a bussiness.
Ads from paper:
"Dancers wanted. Auditions daily. 503-772-2907"
"Dancers, 18 or older, No esp, Avg $300.00 daily tips. Call for audtion; 503-502-6970. After 2pm"
This one has the company name in the ad,
"Dancers, JD's Bar and Grill. !8 and over. Audition anytime. No Fees; 503-288-9771"
However- JD's Bar and Grill, I wasn't able to find reviews for, on this site or at TUSCL.com. When I googled the place, they didn't have a site. Is this common?
I was talking with a neighbor of mine, and she suggested I go up to Tacoma. Is this a nice option?
Also, is there any way to get information (laws and such) on each state? PS- the only club I've spent much time in is Jiggles, I know, I need to expand a bit. Any 18+ clubs you can suggest I venture to?
Any help or words of wisdom would be fantasic. I haven't read the ENTIRE site, it would take months... but I've done my share of lurking... If I did miss anything and these questions were already answered, just point me in the right direction, I'm a quick learner.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Portland, portland, tacoma?
Don't bother with Tacoma. Washington state SUCKS royally, so I suggest you look to Oregon first.
Take your time, visit some clubs. My personall opinion is that you will do better and end up much less frustrated if you take some time to read a lot of this website (and take your class) before you "go for it". When I first started, I didn't know about stripperweb and didn't know what the fuck I was doing. needless to say I quit within a few weeks due to the frustration of not making any money, not knowing how to deal with certain situations, etc. If you already have a knack for sales/hustling, though, you could probably just go for it.

Re: Portland, portland, tacoma?
Maybe you could start sooner than your 21st. That would give you time to feel comfortable in a club, start stage performing and doing dances, but not feel a ton of pressure to hustle/socialize (imo that's the tough part about dancing). Then after you've become comfy with the basics of dancing, you'll bam turn 21. The few custies you've accumulated will be automatic regulars when you can get on the floor and talk to them. :)

Re: Portland, portland, tacoma?
Work in Portland. Don't make a decision on a club based on the Oregonian ads. There isn't anything sleazy about them, so don't worry, but clubs vary so much that you need to not bother calling and auditioning at a place that is the opposite of what you'd like.
There are strip club mags for Portland that have ads for all the clubs. www.xmag.com is on online version of one of them. You can download a PDF of the magazine to see the whole thing.
Amateur night can be a way to audition if that sounds good to you. Personally I always liked going to a place during the day, when it's quieter. You just call them up and ask when you can come in for an audition.
The clubs & reviews secton here is pretty usefull - if it's up to date. And we can also help you find a good match if you give some more details. Do you know if you want to start in a small club or big club. Do you like top 40 music or more obscure? Do you know what part of town?...etc.
If you want to work before you're 21, there are actually a few clubs to do that.
Rules vary a bit from club to club, but ones that are universal in Oregon are you can dance nude on stage and for private dances but you have to keep at least 6 inches away from a customer at all times you can't touch your bikini areas or another dancers. Those just came to the top of my head.
Do some searches around and ask more questions if you still need too. It's hard to say what club to start at, there really are so many in Portland.
Don't dance at 92nd Street.

Re: Portland, portland, tacoma?
oh god..please don't tell you signed up for stripping 101 in portland. i went to check that one out once (at juicy), NOT ANYTHING you'd do in a strip club! It's a great stretching work out, but that's about it. (i told holiday about this excursion! lol) I'm not even a stripper and could do much better than that! lol
that class is more for the woman wanting to spice things up in the bedroom...NOT for someone wanting to strip.
go to one of the juice bars as a customer. I think there are 2 or 3, but I can only think of jiggles off the top of my head. That will give you more of a feel for how to dance. then get some heels and PRACTICE!
good luck!

That ad is from rockstar promotions which is sort of like a stripper temp agency. I work for them and it SUUUUUUUCKS. First of all they will work you every day in clubs where you will make NO money. I actually LOST forty dollars going to a club ON MY DAY OFF. Needless to say the claim of 300.00 a day average is HIGHLY exagerated.

That's what I was thinking as well. I've never been to a club in Washington, always been closer to Portland. Thanks! I will take your advice on the soaking in of information. I do wish there were other clubs I could venture in as a customer. I went to "carnaval"(?) this weekend. Have to say, very bizarre. Don't think I will be going back, for audition or otherwise.

We share a similar line of thinking. I feel I should be comfortable with the basics before I audition anywhere though. And I don't feel I am. Thinking I should get a few more dances and such, venture to a variety of personal styles.

Thank you. I've actually seen this magazine around. Never really thought much about it as help being employment, but there are a plethora of "now hiring" ads. Even for a few clubs that haven't opened.
When a club first opens, does it usually take a while to build up customers, or do they usually get enough hype?

I have read many of them. The clubs with reviews seemed very informative.
I think I would prefer a larger club to start. I tend to appreciate "disappearing" abilities, and that comfort would probably be a nice cushion as a rookie. Obscure would probably mark my music preferences quite nicely. However, my tastes do range, Classical, jazz, blues, indie, alternative, rock, metal. I'm not a huge fan of top 40 or rap, however, I'd never turn down a place solely on music. Money's money, and if money means bring on the country, then damn, turn up the Tim Mcgraw(sp?). I was looking for a place that's white girl friendly. I know how to apply self tanner, but sun in a can only can do so much. I'd prefer north Portland, as I reside in Washington, however, I'd go where the money is.

This site is amazing, when I first started my search, I never visioned anything as in depth as SW.
I think the Portland variety has gotten my already poor decision maker even more confused. Although, it is a blessing to have so many options.
I found this review on 92nd... is it accurate?
"this is the scariest SC I've been to... there's a good chance a barfight could break out here at any moment... I saw 3 dancers: one was so high on cocaine, another had track marks and wrapped her legs around my head, and the last nearly dozed off while dancing...
as far as vibes go, this place has a bad one."

Lesson learned. Thanks for the heads up. Maybe my mom would be interested in taking my place. :)

Ahhh! I was hoping someone would recognize the numbers... I've read some of your other posts concerning them. Thank you for the heads up. Your reviews have been very convincing..

Re: Portland, portland, tacoma?
if you need some heels, check out jante.com. they've got some great chunky wooden heels on clearance (or should be on clearance still.) super cheap and easy to walk in. get a couple and order them over the phone to make sure they have exactly what you want.

Re: Portland, portland, tacoma?
i agree with everything the above girls have said, but ill add dont dance at jiggles. because its a juice bar (no alcohol served) the olcc (oregon liqour control commission) doesnt have jurisdiction there so that nice little 6" rule isnt upheld and the club is dirty as fuck! i cant speak for 92nd st.
as for your audition whether or not you can dance like a stripper wont really matter for your first club. just get up there, look your best, and dance around as sexy as you can. the rest youll pick up as you go along, especially because youll probably be stuck working day shifts until you get the hang of things. i took an introduction to pole dancing class before i auditioned which was kind of nice. they didnt teach me any dancing techniques that were useful but knowing a couple pole spins was helpful. being 21 is nice because you can check out the clubs ahead of time and buy dances as you mentioned, so if your almost 21 then just wait if that makes you more comforable.
most clubs in portland are pretty tiny. union jacks, cabaret, lush... those ones are larger. havent been to stars but i think that one might be larger as well. many pdx clubs are literally tiny little dive bars with naked ladies in them.
oh and as for buying shoes ive noticed that both buffalo exchange and redlight have had used stripper shoes lately for pretty cheap. might want to check that out :)

lol, yah, give it your mom. www.snaz75.com has a great clearance section and if you put stripperweb in the coupon section and get another 20% off (it's normally 10%, but they are having a special for us right now)

Re: Portland, portland, tacoma?
^^ DAMN YOU SASSY! Now I've got to buy MORE shoes!!!! Crap.
Anyway - Grey Libra, a club that popped into my head when reading your last post was Jody's. I've actually never been there, but I've heard some good things about it. It's in N. Portland I believe and I think the kind of place where you can dance to whatever. I really don't know how the money is though. I know being under 21 makes it pretty hard to just go and find a good club, so I'd suggest just going and getting hired somewhere, working some day shifts to get comfy and then exploring. I think Jody's is women run and pretty friendly.
Definately get shoes now, dancing in them is not the same as dancing without them. And, seriously don't worry about dancing too much, spend time practicing moving sexy in shoes - walking, bending over ::) , and undressing. Learn a few different ways to get out of your g-string and a few moves that you can do confidently - and they can be very simple. 90% of the time guys tip you cause you are sexy not cause you flipped upside down on the pole. They've seen that before. And if you dance under 21, you'll spend your whole shift in the back or onstage - so when you do get on stage you want to seriously interact with customers, make huge eye contact, and straight up tell them that you'll have to go right back to the dressing room again unless they get a dance from you. Cause you won't really make any real money from stage alone.
Whoa, sorry for going off here...I'm not a know-it-all, I just like writing to Portland girls! I'm going back to work in October too. If you haven't danced until then let me know and we can work some shifts together! I'll be rusty!

Re: Portland, portland, tacoma?
STAY AWAY FROM Washington!!! I live here and "I" wont dance here!!!!!!!
Your better off starting in Portland. I was thinking of going to Portland to check out some clubs being that I have yet to dance here in the states since I have been back from dancing in Guam:)
I heard Portland was good for dancing but finding a great club can be hard cause there are soooooo many there.

Too sexy! My bookmark list has grown fantastically since finding SW... Thanks for yet another site to sleuth through.

Sounds so simple! I probably will take a couple of the classes, as I will have my shoes by then and probably give me time to learn to actually catch my balance in something other than sneakers.

This made me laugh, so I felt it needed quoting.

I haven't been to buff.ex. in a while... If I head over to Burnside would Sparticus be worth checking? I've been there a few times however, never paid much mind to the shoes (you know, with all the toys in the back).

Bookmarked! Thanks for the heads up on the coupon section. Do you know how long the special lasts?

Rock on! I'll put Jody's at the top of my list to check out. I've actually got a list. I've written down all the clubs in Portland, and just cross out the ones I'd least likely to check out. (Is this weird?)

Alright, invest in shoes and larger mirrors.

Others have told me about the under 21 rules, I always thought they were quite bizarre.

No worries, I do the same thing when it comes to locals or something I'm interested and knowledgeable in.
I'll be a novice, so you'll have a few up on me. Would be fun times though! I'll keep posted about any progress. I'm sure I'll have TONS more questions.

Re: Portland, portland, tacoma?
dudders tru dat on the buffalo exchange comment, i bought two pairs of amasing stripper shoes in there for 18.00. i love them !
