That's my beloved "Blowfly" aka my moped motorcycle aka scooter. She was stolen last night whilst I was doing a topless booking in Surfers Paradise. Stolen! I'm not kidding. I went for a walk earlier today back to the "scene of the crime" then "canvassed" (searched by foot) two streets over either side othe street where the "crime" has happened. I was holding out hope that someone in their drunken stupidity thought it would be "funny" to push her to the next street over then dump her. I even checked the near-by creek in case they had decided to push her off the embankment. Didn't bother checking the beach as there were plenty of people about as well as the fact that there are beach-front (on the beach) residences (apartments and some houses) in the area where I was last night.
All this happened in the space of two hours... 7.30-9.30pm.
My belief that the human species is a self-ish species. That there are no real "self-less" acts... just self-ish acts that help not harm people has been re-inforced. Not to mention my utter disgust with this bloody suburb (Surfers Paradise). I've lived her for 6 years (at least 2 years too long)... and in that time I've lost count the no. of times my bicycles have been stolen.
The only reason my current bicycle has never been stolen is because it is kept in the garage unused for the last year or two. I'm getting a club lock for my car.
No she wasn't insured as I was lucky to get $1500 AUD for her due to her age (purchased in 2002) and damage (the picture above shows her good side, the other side is where the damage is).
Of course I'm swaying between denial/shock (my mind keeps thinking every now and again she will magickally re-appear in my garage), sadness (I didn't use her much however she was my first vehicle.. she was mine!) and anger (at how someone can do this)...
I'm also in totally shock and disbelief that someone can "hot wire" a moped motorcycle. I seriously thought it wouldn't be possible without it being plainly obvious (as such) because the keys aren't like normal car keys.
Lesson to be learnt: lock your vehicle!!! Get it insured !!!
