my first amateur contest...
I want to start dancing, but I talked to a club manager here who asked me to first do an amateur contest to make sure that it is something I really want to do. And I still do want to, but I must say the amateur contest did slightly deter me as opposed to encourage me...because every other girl in it has been dancing for years, so I was really the only amateur there...Also the music they played for us was horrible, and I really couldn't get into it...so needless to say I did not place...Still going back to the club I want to work at tom. though...Also need some advice about this...as far as just starting...I am comfortable with the whole nudity thing, that part does not bother me...I just have some normal stage fright...plus I don't feel as though I am the best dancer in the world...well as far as like "booty shakin" and what not...I think I do better with slower songs, so I'm sure it will be easier when I can pick my songs...but anyways...Any and all suggestions and tips would really be appreciated.
Re: my first amateur contest...
Having an "Amateur" Contest with few if any real amateurs is fairly common. In most cases when clubs use the contest as an audition where you place is typically irrelevant. Did the club offer you a job? Sounds like they did if you are going back tomorrow.
Don't worry about being a "newbie" at first. In fact, some customers may tip you just for being a newbie and to welcome you to the club. You'll pick things up as you go along. You're right take things slow on the stage, don't club dance, smile, and try to make eye contact.
Other than that, there's plenty of advice for starting out here in the boards. Feel free to search through the threads as you'll find tons of info from how to stock you dnce back, to the "do's and dont's" for a newbie.
Best of luck.

Re: my first amateur contest...
I understand exactly what you're saying. I'm glad I didn't have to do amatuer night for an audition. They let me come in whenever I wanted to and they let me pick my music. For the first couple of weeks, I told the DJ what kind of music I liked, and asked him to please play slow-ish songs. I never shake my ass at a million liles an hour, I just mover slowly, try to be seductive, and I get a lot of compliments on my stage performance :) My advice, ask the DJ to play slower songs for you, or write a few songs down if you think of them. And moving slow is probably the best way to go about it, at least at first, so go for it!
Good Luck! :)
