See now I wish I were still a PL there. At least you guys would get paid well. Grrr...
In some clubs I work at as soon as we get off stage we walk around and do $1 dances. It many times is good advertising, and opens the door for regular priced dances later. These are called "ice breaker" dances.
I will give you a tip. RIGHT after you get off stage you are FRESH in a customers mind. Many dancers make a mistake of going straight into the dressing room when getting off stage. You should make your floor rounds first, and after there is NO more money to be made, go in the back or go to get something to drink.Try to turn these dollar dances into regular ones with the guys who seem friendly and open to you after a little small talk.
NEVER turn down a customer who wants a dance. Clubs I have worked in require these $1 dances, and customers like them. You only dance for 25-30 seconds, and many guys give you several dollars and not just $1. It gives you a chance to try to sell them or get them up to your tip rail later.
The clubowners want to keep the customers in the club and obviously these guys knew the ropes of this club as far as dance pricing goes. Not going to a customer sets a bad tone.
I am used to working in small clubs, and the dancer attitude needs to be more accomodating than in a mega club. When you don't have many customers or girls your behavior does make a difference.
Unless the customer talks to you in a condescending way, I wouldn't say anything insulting to him. As DW says in his class, his buddies or other customers see you and will think you are a bitch. If he didn't want to spend anymore, you could have put the $1 in your purse, said thank you, and gone back to the other customer.;)
^^^ The club in mention isnt really a small place. Yeah, its smaller than the huge chain clubs, but for that area, its the biggest and the best. Always has been. Its a good size and has a long, positive history up until lately.
damn Paige, i wish you were still here too!!! hell, i'd dance for you for a dollar any day!! ;)Quote:

You are an INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR, therefore you have NO obligation to work an "assignment"(i.e., a couch dance or conversation w/ a customer) if you do not choose to. Isn't the beauty of the free market system making our own prices, supply and demand, and being able to demand whatever prices we want for products? Does management also realize how STUPID it is to obligate dancers to perform "cheap labor" for $1? When other guys catch gist of girls willing to couch dance for a dollar, they will take advantage of that and eventually, more guys will be cheapening their tips to $1. Consequently, more guys will find the drink prices to be "too expensive" and the bar will lose its drink money revenue. Over time, the club's clientele will change to attract more ghetto guys and the rep will go way down.Quote:

Admittedly, I also have a problem at times with being "too nice," so that's why your thread especially infuriated me, because it was an issue that hit a little too close to home for me. OK I haven't been in this exact situation, but I've been in spots where people ripped me off or expected more from me, simply because they knew I was compliant. For example, girls who would purposely butt in when I was sitting and talking to a customer. Or managers at one particular club that would always schedule me all the worst shifts, simply because I was the only reliable pretty girl that'd actually show up for those shifts. Or managers at that same club, who wasted an hour out of a very busy Friday night shift to photograph me for their stupid club ad that barely anyone cared to be in, then X-ed my pictures out of the ad, then explained the reason for it being that "my nose is too big" right in front of my customers(can you see why I'm not at that club anymore??). >:( This kind of stuff and much worse happened to me even more frequently in non-dancing jobs, such as when I'd get hired for one position and then sent to work a much simpler, lower-paid position or when I'd get passed over for a much-deserved promotion. Assertiveness is something that I am working on, and it angers me when I hear about good people that are being taken advantage of, by both the customers and the management. But apparently you have to "act" a little bitchy to get further in life, and stand up to it. I'd suggest that you find a new club that has a set price for couch dances, and understands the meaning of being an Independent Contractor.
Sad to say, it wont change. That club has been a no-minimum-price on dance place for EVER. As much as it sucks, it worked, kinda still does, so no one is going to change it. And leaving that club for another is taking a huge step down, in environment and in money.
One dollar?
Customers are not entitled to see us. Getting dances is a priviledge a person must be able to afford.
umm....they do pay us an hourly rate. It's not much, but I am an employee of the club.Quote:

But if you get done, esp. if you know it was good, and they give you a mere $2, that is when it is most disappointing. I have to fight the urge to slap them.
P.S. I am very easygoing and try to be sweet to everyone, but I have an incredible temper that I have sent the past 2 years trying to control. Maybe it is time to let my aggressive side out a little bit. I work Sat late night, and there will most certainly be some cheap 20-something year-old guys in there. I'll try Bridgette's suggestion and report back ;)
they actually do pay us a small wage. about $4/hr. then they assume $10/hr in tips and take taxes out. so i usually work about 30 hrs a week and get a check for around $60.Quote:

Paige, i don't know what the deal is, but the manager doesn't seem to understand that the main reason we're losing customers is that we're losing girls. we had only 2 girls for a good part of happy hour tuesday and lunch wednesday. guys don't stick around long because with only two girls, we can't give them much attention. and if one of the girls has a regular come in who she knows will make the shift worth while, she's going to spend even less time with the other guys. plus the club 20 minutes away has 15-25 girls all the time, does couch dances and private rooms and has girls who are willing to do extras.
but instead of trying to encourage the girls to stay, the manager is screwing all the hard workers over. and lately they haven't even been kicking out unruly customers. a guy licked a girls ass. in a no contact club. Licked her ass. when they guy told the bouncer it was an accident, the bouncer believed him over the dancer. she isn't a liar. and how the hell you lick someone's ass by accident!?!?! :O and the same thing happened when a guy intentionally tripped me. it's bullshit.
in addition to that, the club needs a major overhaul. the chairs are cheap and uncomfortable. the carpet looks like something from a bad 80's film. right now we've got scarecrows, corn and orange crepe paper on the walls. i feel like i'm in a 3rd grade classroom, not a stripclub. it makes my schoolgirl set seem a little wrong. heh.
but there are so few clubs around here and they all have problems. at least at this one the girls are nice and the owner really is a good enough guy, just way past his prime and out of touch...
Agreed, the shift pay will cover showing up and going on stage. That is exactly my opinion.Quote:

yes!! it happened a few weeks ago. i think she's at dv now. i don't know if you ever met her. as for which bouncer it was, well, it was the one who works the door on sat. late night. same punk who didn't kick the tripper out. i haven't tipped him out since. i stopped tipping out the one behind the bar that night too, but i like him and i'm a sucker, so i finally started tipping him out again.Quote:

Just a word of warning to the two dancers who obviously work at the same club chatting in this thread... you may want to keep some of it to Private Messages from now on. You don't want anyone from your club to cause shit for either or both of you based on what has been said here. Plus you have to watch what you say anyway in re: being libel for deroagatory (sp?) speaking (or whatever it is called that can cause lawsuits).
Just a friendly word of warning.
