I run my own agency and I've yet to hire a driver/security that wasn't one of my personal friends. I send drivers out with the girls to every party, not for their safety, but to get my money! I haven't hired anyone I didn't know because I'm scared of getting ripped off, drivers attempting to sleep with my dancers, or worst, deciding to start up their own lil' agency!
You should try craigslist, I get emails from potential applicants all the time!
Hey CT, why don't you have a merchant account? I would bet that would save you a lot of hassle in trying to collect from dancers/bouncers, and also avoid lost shows due to the customer not showing up or cancleing while the dancer is at the front door.
Merchant accounts are very easy to get these days. All you need is a business license and a bank account. Any merchant fees would likely be less than what you pay the money guy you send along with the dancers.
Lelanicandy, I have always used either my husband or a personal friend as my security. Lately I've used a bouncer from a club I work at a lot. Most club bouncers are available for hire, and aren't all starry eyed about watching the strippers. I pay my bouncers $50 per show plus 10% of total tips. I am a top party earner, and didn't realize that other girls don't know how to hustle a bachelor party. It takes a special kind of hustle that doesn't fly in the clubs.
I would avoid Craigslist when looking for a party bouncer. Ask at the local strip clubs, ask trusted friends, ask other dancers. Just trying to meet a bouncer randomly online could be a bad decision, and lose you money in the end.
I've also found that some strip club DJ's make excellent bouncers for parties. They know how to hustle the crowd for more tips, and don't have too much machismo going on. Don't use a guy that enjoys fighting. That is the kind of guy that causes problems for you at a party. Look for a guy that can hold his own, but is good at blending into the background.
I second the notion that craigslist is a bad idea. I use other dancer's bouncers, but I've also had good luck with going through fraternities (if you live in a college town). I'll ask for the vice president or the treasurer and those guys tend to know who has their head on straight and who needs the money (and who doesn't have psycho girlfriends that would seriously mind!)
as for what I pay them...well I make between 160-500 (both being rare, but it's normally in the 200-300 range) for a one-hour party so Paris may make a ton more than me, but I just do a flat rate for bouncers. I've seen too many spoilt bouncers who start being prima donnas. I pay $30 a party right here in town, or $40-50 if it's a half hour away. I also pay extra if there's any trouble (which I've never had any serious trouble but if I feel that the job has exasperated the bouncer in an extra way I'll tip a little extra.) Lately I've been the one driving so they don't even need to use their car.
I talked to one dancer who used to pay her bouncer $20+10% and this girl seriously can make up to a thousand dollars on a good night. The other night she made 1300. I'm sorry, but $130+20 is WAY the hell too much for what was three parties unless they were all a half hour to an hour apart. And on TOP of that, she said that when she'd do two girls the two girls would BOTH pay the same amount. That's just ludicrious. She finally just recently changed it so that each girl pays less but the bouncer still makes more than what he'd make with a one-girl show and all her bouncers acted like little bitter bitches. This is why I do fixed fees and try to keep it low unless there's something different going on.
That's why I like fraternity guys (of the good, respectable, maybe even slightly redneck type.) They're used to drunks, they're in school so typically need the money (and 20-30 dollars an hour is good money to them), and if you screen them well enough you know that you can depend on them, or on any referrals for other bouncers you get from them.
Cheers!
