I don't think that was quite appropriate. Strippers at a Gov't Confrence? Wierd. These people (at least some of them) were reacting to how the public would feel. Elected officials and people in the spotlight have to behave carefully, so I supose that's partially why there was all the fuss.
Well, it was a weird idea to have burlesque performers at a government conference in the first place, but I do think the people who walked out over-reacted. Like one of the performers said -- I'm paraphrasing -- they were "stripping" down to more than most people do at the beach. This would have happened where in Texas where I live, too. Hardcore conservatives here wouldn't be associated with anything that so much as hinted at immorality, even in a lighthearted way. Sounds like Australia is the same way.
I'm not quite sure what the fuss was about, personally.
not taking strippers seriously? how about not taking the university seriously; they're the ones who hired the girls. the strippers were just doing their job...
My thoughts exactly.Quote:

Yeah. It's not like if someone ordered a pizza in the middle of a lecture, the pizza delivery guy would take the blame.
That's exactly what I was thinking. If anyone should be taking any blame here it's the people who hired them in the first place.
But I didn't see anyting in the article that was "blaming" the strippers, only in this thread title...
Stodgy old government. So archaic. It's sad.
Don't worry. It will all be different when I'm running the world...
i hope GCG wasn't one of them. they were shocking. saw them on the news and died laughing. twice.
the scientists probably just wanted their money back. LOL
Why would she be? That's in Sydney, she's in the Gold Coast. They're VERY FAR apart (but most people don't seem to notice that).
Anyway. I saw this on the news. I laughed.
For one: Strippers vs. Burleque = KINDA DIFFERENT. I don't see a burlesque dancer giving lapdances. :P Two: PULLING THEIR SPONSORSHIP?! Three: This happened last year but with girls in skimpy outfits playing music. :P
I posted this a couple of days ago. I thought it was funny.
The girl in the photo was on yesterdays morning tv. According to her there wasnt a problem until just one woman objected and others followed. I think it's probably been blown out of proportion. As I said else where. Whoever organised the entertainment had quite possibly noticed that whenever there is a conference of any kind ALOT of the attendees end up afterwards at the local strip clubs... I dont see why government officials should be any different - I've met one or two MPs in the clubs i've worked in. (-:
I have never been to Sydney in my whole entire life except for Sydney International Airport twice. Otherwise Sydney is foreign to me. No I wasn't part of this performance.Quote:

What I find laughable ..really laughable.. is the fact that the most liberal porn laws are found in the ACT which was only created to house Parliament House (basically) .... Parliament House is the National Parliment (Federal level)!!
It is the only place in Australia where you can make and sell porn without many problems.
i guess it would have been ok if they were hot :)
they should at least be hot AND nude before they get in trouble!
