Anyone use essential oils?
hello just me again
Does anyone use essential oils with success? Id like to hear little recipes... I have a book but its a bit overwhelming and the 10 starter bottles I got of course are not the only ones I need to do all the things the book mentions. Oils are very pricey so before I buy more im hoping to find just the ones I need. So far Ive done two things which I really like:
1. Tooth paste.. the book says to find the prettiest sparkling healthy teeth on the planet go deep into Africa where a bottle of toothpast has never been opened. They use chalky stuff to just dry brush their teeth with and chew on herbs for fresh taste. I know lack of donuts and soda probably help.
An at home cheap way to mimic this is the blessed baking soda we've all heard about but add Lemon oil and Peppermint oil and make a paste with your wet toothbrush. The taste of baking soda and strong oils is gagging but my teeth are slick clean and my son actually said I had fresh breath!
2. Geranium oil is good for skin. On my bikini area that was red and irritated I just rubbed in few drops and a few hours later the redness was gone. Ive also done this with Arnica oil with the same results.
For cellulite the attacker is Juniper oil which I havent purchased yet... there are so many natural skin things you can do with these with just a base oil of Almond /Carrot oil. I think this is worth looking into as it may be a small investment up front for me to buy the oils but in the long run cheaper than shelling out $50 a week at CVS.. let me know your thoughts
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
I use oils, when I remember to.
Tea Tree oil, obviously.
Lavender, great for everything. Sleeping aid and anti-bacterial most prominently.
Lemongrass- anti bacterial and anti dandruff. I add to my conditioner.
Fennel oil is supposed to be firming...I have rubbed it on my boobs at times, not noticed anything.
Geranium rocks for pms. Clary Sage too. Put in your bathwater.
Orange oil for sleeping...in bath water or on pillow
Cinnamon oil for muscle pain and for pouty lips. (Must dilute!!)
That's all I can think of for now...oh, and Jasmine, Tuberose and Neroli because they just smell so damned nice.
I pretty much strictly use oils by either adding them to bathwater, or mixing them with Vaseline and spot applying.
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
Tea Tree oil is great for acne. Lavender oil is great for sleep. I used to put clary sage in my bath water as well, but ran out. Gotta go get more oils!
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
I used lavendar oil to clear up the start of a yeast infection, since it is safe for use on mucous membranes. I simply rubbed it where I started to feel that irritating itch, and the next morning, it was gone.
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
I use essential oils. Lavendar, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, many citrus oils, etc. Lavendar and Tea Tress are great all-purpose oils to have for amny skin issues.
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
I put lavender or rose in the bath (about 5 drops). They're relaxing.
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
I love essential oils. I get mine, as well as a lot of other items, from MountainRose. They rock!
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
Love them too! Any of the mint ones, rosemary and sage.
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
I use a few drops Peppermint oil whenever my tummy "just isn't right". Helps heaps! I'm a fan of tea tree oil as well.
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
I couldn't live without lavender oil. I have recently started to grow my own lavender and have high hopes it will do well because it has so many uses.
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
thanks for these ideas
if you could list a little more detail like if you use an oil for something how do you do it .. orally/smelling it/ or rubbing it in? im guessing most are just rubbing it in.. id love to create little tinctures and have them labeled like a crazy herb lady that I just reach for .. if anyone wants ideas from the book let me know.. they have ones for facials ect.. but require alot of different oils. the ones i got were from whole foods and were at least $10 each. i heard cheaper ones are not good to get as you dont know the quality
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
In order for an essential oil to work properly, it must be in a carrier, usually a carrier oil. Such as jojoba oil. Or if you are in the bath, salt can work as a carrier. They are not supposed to work alone.
Cheaper oil may not be good due to lack of quality, however, Whole Foods is always more expensive for any item you buy there. I am sure you can find a quality brand that cost less.

You're right. I use almond oil as my carrier.
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
I use them alot.
I thought you only needed a carrier oil if you were to use directly on your skin, as a moisturiser or for massage? I've used a dab of oil instead of perfume many a time though.
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
I'm obsessed with essential oils for skincare and aromatherapy... mmmm :)
Lavender is amazing on minor burns - just put some directly on a burn and the pain goes away!
Jojoba oil is the best hair & skin product ever - use it as moisuriser for your face, and in your hair instead of a serum after blowdrying/straightening. Apparantly it's the closest thing to the skin's natural sebum.
Rosemary is just gorgeous in anything, i put a couple drops in a bottle of Cetaphil for cleaning my face. Smells divine!
It's worth paying the higher price for top quality oils from places you can trust. Cheaper oils could contain chemicals etc that might have nasty effects.
:)

Here is a recipe from the massage trade magazine I get monthly. It sounds cool-
Basic Bath Bomb Recipe
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid
1/2 cup epsom salts
10 drops of essential oils
10 drops carrier oil
After mixing the ingredients together in a bowl, use a spray bottle to lightly spritz water to moisten the mixture, stirring often in the process. When your "dough" begins to stick together, roll into 1 - inch balls or press into decorative molds. Let them dry 24-48 hours before storing. Drop one in the bath and watch the bomb. By using different essential oils, you can create a variety of bathing experiences. It's a great idea for homemade gift-giving.

^^^That sounds great! Thanks for posting it.
**mad scientist Dylan goes off to experiment, muahhahaha*
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
i buy some online....they have flower infusions in them, and smell really nice. a small dab makes for a great perfume. i also sometimes buy eucalyptus oil, because i really like that smell for some reason.
Re: Anyone use essential oils?
I get my moisturizer from this place that has essential oil-based products they make themselves. I absoutely _adore_ their stuff; it makes my skin soft and smooth and much less prone to break-outs. I generally refuse to spend much money on products I have to buy repeatedly, but for them I make an exception. Every once in a while, it takes some extra time to get an order, if they're in the process of restocking, but it's totally worth it. Plus, I'm pretty sure one of the women who runs it is a sex worker. Anyway - it's called SumiCo - here's the link.

Bath Cookies-
2 cups finely ground sea salt
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup cornstarch
2 T light oil
1 tsp vitamin E oil
2 eggs
5-6 drops essential oil of your choice
Preheat your oven to 350 F. Combine all the listed ingredients and form into a dough. Using a teaspoon or so of dough at a time, roll it gently in the palm of your hand until it forms a ball. Form all dough into one teaspoon balls, and gently place them on an ungreased cookie sheet. Consider sprinkling the bath balls with herbs, flower petals, cloves, citrus zest and similar aromatic ingredients. Bake your bath cookies for ten minutes, until they are lightly browned. Do not over bake. Allow the bath cookies to cool completely. To use, Drop 1 or 2 cookies into a warm bath and allow to dissolve. Yield: 24 cookies, enough for 12 baths.
