So I was curious what everyone calls themselves when it comes to what we do. Are you a stripper or a dancer, entertainer ect. ect. Does it matter? And if so why?

If talking to my mom I'd call myself a dancer...but to everyone else, a stripper. It really doesn't matter to me at all which one it is...entertainer is probably the safest and best description.
I have a hard time calling myself a dancer though to other people, because really, I don't do a lot of dancing! Hehehe!
;)
I remember calling myself a stripper when I was still dancing, and people were always surpirsed. I had men say "Sure, but you don't LIKE to be called that do you?" I don't care. It doesn't bother me either way. But I tend to call em like I see em.
It depends. If talking to my SO, I'm a dancer. If talking to guys in the club, a stripper, but if the guy is treating me like a prostitute, I will say I am an entertainer. When talking to a friend, stripper normally.
I'm a stripper, a dancer, an entertainer, and an Ecdysiast. Depends on who I am talking to. To the stupid and simple, I am a stripper. When I am walking on eggshells with certain people, I am an entertainer. Otherwise I am a dancer, since I actually *dance* and an Ecdysiast, cause its nerdy to say that. ;D
I just say stripper.
haha interesting topic. i was thinkin of posting the same thing,
i mean, usually in the club, the other girls will refer to eachothers as dancers. "is this your first time being a dancer, so does your boyfriend have a problem with you being a dancer, etc?"
i dont know why? i guess its the polite word for it. its like when i cash in my money at the bank, the teller asks me 'are you a dancer???' i mean i guess it would be kind of weird if someone outright called u a stripper. but i wudnt mind, but maybe other people think its offensive - even tho im proud of wut i do ;)
i usually jus call mjyself a stripper....its the easiest and straight to the point. or if people ask what i do and i say dancer..they go, 'what kind of dancer?' i go 'exxxotic...dancer' *Wink*haha. and on myspace i put 'exotic dancer' even tho perhaps i shud put 'nude etertainer' because i dance a bit, but mostly i think i etertain ;)
I'm a showgirl.
^^ I like showgirl! And Ecdysiast too. Dita Von Teese has a list of titles in her book "The Art of the Teese"; I'll look up the list later (the book lives at my boyfriend's). My favorite suggestion of hers is "stripteuse".
I usually just say stripper, though. ;)
Im a stripper *shrug* Doesnt matter to me, I take my clothes off for money, that makes me a stripper IMO. Yea im titled a showgirl or feature depends where I dance... some places im the feature, others im a showgirl. When it all comes down to it though we all get naked for money so we're strippers
I've said ecdysiast before ;D but typically I'll say I was a stripper. With my parents though since they haaated my job, it's always "dancer" or "what I used to do, guys...you know"
On my myspace and professionally I will say Adult Entertainer
or erotic adult entertainer
Then showgirl (as per my bits of info under my avatar)
then stripper
Stripper is last on my list as I actually try to be entertaining first and foremost in everything even in my lap dances.
In "polite society" I am self employed. ;) If they ask what I do beyond that, I say I work in the entertainment industry or don't even go that far and say "home based business". Then if they want to know further "what sort of home based business"... I say it is a bit of everything including selling Avon products. As for the "what sort of entertainment" I say adult entertainment however usually I don't get that far and have usually deflected them and the conversation into another direction...
usually showgirl or stripper.
stripper, dancer, entertainer, i honestly don't care. to me it all depends on how someone says it. you can say "she's an exotic dancer" in a negative way and say "she's a stripper" in a positive way. it's the intent behind it that matters.
It's all the same to me personally...but when guys at work ask what I prefer I do say Ecdysiast..just because that "WTF?" look ontheir face is so very amusing!! And the one in a million guy whoa)knows what that is and/or b)gets the Gypsy referance is a guy I know i WANT to continue talking to!
Dancer or stripper, they're one in the same to me. My best friend calls me a recreational therapist.
But what I really prefer and what's on myspace is Modern Day Geisha.
^^^
That's really what it is! :D I've thought that for such a long time.. anyway.
In friend situation, no one hearing us, stripper. Friend situation, public, dancer. ...
Yeah.. no, it's always just friend situations hehe :)
OK i am going to sound a bit niieve here... What the story behind Ecdysiast? And how do you pronouce that...? I've never heard the word before.
