looking for a specific song; similar to "a fifth of beethoven"...help?
I'm looking for a song that a visiting DJ played for me once. He's long gone now, and I have no idea what this song is called or who it's by...BUT...
it's a dance-type song that incorporates snippets of Beethoven's fifth into it. It's close to Electric Light Orchestra's "a fifth of beethoven"...except "my" song has actual lyrics as well, and it's a bit more "dance", sound-wise, whereas "fifth of beethoven" has more of a disco sound.
Does anyone know what this song is called and/or who it's by?

There's the dance song that was done to Pachelbel's "Canon".....I can't think of who did the dance version and whether or not it had lyrics, though.
Damn, I tried to look it up opn the internet, but I'm getting a bunch of classical stuff and strange things. I can't remember who did it or even if it was still called "Canon" I tihnk they called the dance version something else.
Maybe someone else knows what I'm talking about? Now that I think about it, I don't recall it having lyrics....I'm not sure though.

no, the song i'm talking about used snippets of beethoven's fifth symphony, not pachelbel's canon.
(LOL, i would never ask for any song that even remotely sounds like that damned canon...worst piece of classical music EVER in my humble opinion. >:( )

What about Thicke - When I Get You Alone??
It uses snippets of something in it...
Re: looking for a specific song; similar to "a fifth of beethoven"...help?
Its called "Fur Elise - Techno Remix" ..... Should be on Limewire...my copy said it was by Apotheosis which I'm pretty sure is incorrect and seen it credited to Aphex Twins all the way to Warp Bros. Anybody know who really did this and do you have a version better than 128 kbs???
Re: looking for a specific song; similar to "a fifth of beethoven"...help?
No, the techno remix of "Fur Elise" is something different (cool though). I know the song she means, but I don't know who did it. Ever heard "A Fifth of Beethoven"? It's Beethoven's Fifth Symphony mixed to disco/funk. I love it. Oh, and it's by Walter Murphy, not ELO.
I just checked Wikipedia... they say that the song you mean is "When I Get You Alone," by Thicke.

There's also a pretty decent techno version of Stravinshy's Firebird., you might like it. The majority of the classical remixes I have heard have been disappointing, but I still like the idea a lot. Now I'm going to go see if I have that Beethoven one somewhere, or if I need to DL it.
Great thread, BTW...

^^On the stipid trivia tip, that Thicke guy, who also does that song with Pharrell "I Wanna Love You Girl" now goes by Robin Thicke. Aaaaaaaaaand....his dad is Alan Thicke, from Growing Pains.
Re: looking for a specific song; similar to "a fifth of beethoven"...help?
well FUCK!
i went through all that to find out what the song was and to get a copy of it and bring it in...(those of you who suggested Thicke's "when i get you alone" were right! that was the song I'd been wanting.)
...and the manager says I can't use it! :'( >:( :(
According to him "it's too R&B" (WTF?) and the only way he'll let me play it is if i find a dance remix version of it. I doubt such a thing even exists. If it does, it's not showing up in any of my searches.
FUCKING HELL. >:(
