Opening a club in SOCAL, what do dancers want from a club?
yes,
I and an associate are opening a club in southern california with in the next year,
two years if we run out of funds.
I hope, some dancers or even managers can help me with feedback.
we want to make it a dancer friendly place,
only a low house fee 30-40%(sound fair?)
and no other fees to dancers.
first off for the dancers
What do you like from a club?
what do you hate?
whats a fair house % to you?
managers/owners
what are some general rules for handling city hall when opening a club?
how much does your establishment charge dancers?
what cities are good in socal?
how many dancers should I keep on staff at any given time?
and how many on a given shift?
is it a good idea to open early in the day IE11am
or later 5PM?
how much do you spend a month on expenses,
for rent, utilities, and the none dancing staff ect?
if i missed something and you think it would help me
please tell me.
thanks for your time
cheers

Re: Opening a club in SOCAL, what do dancers want from a club?
Only a 40% house fee? ::)
I'm sorry but that's way too much in my opinion. Perhaps I'm spoiled, but I can't imagine giving more than $50 to the house (and that's $20 more than I ever have!).
From the questions you have asked, it seems you are a far way off from getting your idea off the ground. I'd read around here for awhile to see the dancer's perspective.
-
Re: Opening a club in SOCAL, what do dancers want from a club?
In California, a 40% house fee is low. I had one place taking 53%. Ugh.
Anyway, I'd opt for a 20% house fee TOTAL (10% DJ, 10% club) and a flat fee, but ONLY if you're late. As in, none before 7 $10 eight or later, $20 nine or later, $50, ten or later.
Works better to have girls on time and still get paid if you don't.
-
Re: Opening a club in SOCAL, what do dancers want from a club?
I agree that 40% is way too high. So if I make $200 in one night, I have to give the house 80 and therefore I leave with only 120? And then I have to pay takes on that, which lets say are 30% to keep it an even number, so therefore I really only made $84? UhUh no way.... maybe 20% would be ok, but you should not take anywhere near half of the dancer's money. Even better than taking a percentage would be to just set a flat fee.... like $50 per night, so that those who make more aren't penalized more and have to pay in more.
A lot of the questions you are asking to managers/owners could be answered if you would go out and research it yourself. What city are you looking to open in? Are there any other clubs in that city? If so, how many girls do they usually run and when do they open? Every city is different. I've worked in 2 cities that are only about 45 minutes away from each other, but they have totally different atmospheres, clientele, hours, and numbers of dancers. It really doesn't sound like you know what you're doing, or even what u want to do. Anyone can open a strip club- it takes knowledge of the business and experience in the business to run it successfully.

im looking to open it in corona,
there is one in corona already but its
21+ topless
im looking to open a 18+ full nude
thanks for the feedback
but if your not in souther cali,
keep in mind the cost of living is alot higher here than anywhere else
and i do believe that a 20% fee is dooable
but it might have to be a little higher
25% at the most does that sound fair?
keep in mind there will be no other fees to the dancers
the dj will be paid by me,
and not the dancers
cheers

Which is why your dancers will want to take home the money they earn. ;)

Re: Opening a club in SOCAL, what do dancers want from a club?
25% to only the club is fair BUT I think it should ONLY be taken out of dances, not stage tips. Tips are tips are tips. If someone gave me $20 on the street I wouldn't turn around and give $5 to my friend for no reason. :/ So, $40 dances where the girl makes $30 sounds fucking IDEAL. And with the dances being average priced, you can sell about.. hmmm... 10-20 per girl? So you're making at least 100-200 per girl per night. 10 girls, 2 grand JUST off the girls. Then drinks and entrance.
Still sounds good to me.
Lower your fees and you can be MUCH chosier over the hotness of your dancers as well.
I think quality of clubs goes up when you have happy dancers that pay lower fees.
More men will come in because you have happier, hotter dancers.
-
Re: Opening a club in SOCAL, what do dancers want from a club?
I lived in SoCal, and I also lived in NYC. NYC is way further up there on the Cost Of Living scale... and I NEVER paid that much in house fees. Make it a straight up flat rate and you might get some dancers.

i wasnt intending
on taking a percentage of all they took in
just lap dances and vip room time
Tips are Tips
like a bartender
they should keep tips...
and yes i do feel you when you say
i could be more selective about the tallent if my fees are lower
i ran that past my associate when we were talking the other night
and i told him
about lower fees and how it would
make more dancers want to work for us and
not us having to be dancers to work for us
okay so bottom line
20% house fee
for only lap dances and vip time
no other fees ever
dj paid by the club
does that sound attractive to potential dancers?
cheers

Nah, percentages over flat rate.
Flat rate makes companies lazy. Don't get more customers GET MORE GIRLS. And then some girls can't make their fee? What then?
Even though a percentage means more pay-out technically, it gives the club MUCH more incentive to make sure the girls make a lot of money. They'd do more promoting and more work on the dancer's behalf. As a flat fee, a girl can end up in the negative... resulting in unhappier dancers and most likely, less spending customers since the club won't advertise for it's money.

With the exception of the club I am at right now, every club Ive worked at has been very accepting of dys when girls just dont make their tip out. If the money sucks, the money sucks. It happens sometimes. As long as a girl wasnt making a habit out of it, those clubs would let it slide from time to time.

yay
thank you.
and is it just me or do dancers even tip the
bouncers when they get walked out to their car
i see it every time i go to my local club
at the end of the night
the girl cashs out
and the bouncer walks her out
and she gives him a few dollars?
if the owner(soon to be me)
pays bouncers and a dj
then the dancers shouldnt have to tip them
cheers

well though you make a valid arguement as well,
wouldnt you rather pay a low % than a flat fee,
if it means the club bringing more customers in
and actively running promotional campaigns to
keep a steady flow of customers coming in?
well anyway
ill do my best to keep the dancers happy
and hopfull they'll look out for me likewise and
keep me from going bankrupt lol
cheers

Re: Opening a club in SOCAL, what do dancers want from a club?
I think my problem with paying a % instead of a flat rate is.... if I make $100 or $500, how much of that is thanks to the club? Why should I pay them more if I make more if they arent the reason I am making more? Adverts are always good, but they arent a major way of bringing in the customers. These guys dont read magazines and surf the net to find strip clubs. They just go cruising. The only GOOD promos Ive seen work out was having a radio station do a remote there on a regular basis.

to the dancers ive seen it.
but im not a bouncer
so I guess my opinion isnt valid

I'm not a bouncer either. Its the only club job I havent done. Well then thats the job of the owner and managers to toss the rude bouncers. If the bouncers cant act in a proper business manner, they dont deserve the job.

yes yes,
but the club gives you a safe place to work,
if some guy gets to frisky they club will take care of it
and make sure your alright.
and they do cover all the expenses
of running the place,
why cant you both make some good money?
isnt 100 for them and 400 for you reasonable?
since they are the ones spending on all
of the costs of running the establishment
just a thought
cheers

thats quite true as well,
I guess the management needs to do a better job

Re: Opening a club in SOCAL, what do dancers want from a club?
^ What if the club WAS using that percentage to make you more? The more money you make the more they make so they WANT you to make more, so they'll (most likely) work much harder.
And you'll never ever go into the negative.. I haven't done that ONCE since in Australia, as it's mostly a % only place.

Well upkeep of the place makes it more appealing to customers. As long as you have a door charge, there's your payback for upkeep. Running the establishment will get you plenty of cash from door fees and the bar money. Seriously. Keeping girls safe is a bouncers JOB. Thats why they get paid by the club. A club without bouncers will turn into an unsafe place for everyone... dancers, customers, bartenders, wait staff, etc.... you will lose dancers and customers without a safe environment. A dancer shouldnt have to pay for a safe place to work, thats a right of every person in every job place. If your club becomes unsafe, its more likely that the cops will shut you down.

I have yet to see a club really do anything worthwhile for the dancers with their time or money. The most our club does is Dancer Of The Month. ITs a gift certificate to a lingerie store OWNED by a club employee. Otherwise, the promotions are good for the club, yes... but not a huge benefit to the girls. Drink promos dont really do a TON of good to my wallet. Having a band play or having a feature come in for a few days doesnt make me a ton of cash... it just attracts SOME customers for the purpose of the attraction, not the rest of the dancers.

yes,
the door
fee, is about 15 per person
and you have to pay at least 10 bouncers by the hour
and you have to pay the waitress' by the hour as well
and keep in mind this is a 18+ place so no booze
after paying all these people
and a dj
is there a lot of the door money left?
not to mention all the door fees that never make it to the owner/ manager
because the bouncers let people in for free or just pocket the fee.
it happens often, not only have I seen it, but a bouncer let me
and 2 of my buddies in for free thats 45 not paid to the house
btw he let us in for free because we brought him a pizza lol
not my brightest moment
but i have proven my point.
cheers

Re: Opening a club in SOCAL, what do dancers want from a club?
TEN BOUNCERS?! LOL how big is this place? I say you need two at a time... so you'll probably only need four. Six if you're open days.

If you cant serve liquor then you have to up juice and soda rices. If the house fee is $20, just for an example, and you have only 10 girls thats already $200, for once shift... that doesnt count if you dont have shifts and girls can come in when they want. Then you have more cash trickling in as they do. If you have a lot of girls, lets say 40, there's $800! What girls like about flat rates is that, once they ay it, they feel safe in knowing that, no matter what kind of day they have at work (money wise) what they get is what they keep. There are a metric tn of clubs out there who do not charge the girls by %. They seem to do well somehow, so it obviously works.... in all sorts of Cost Of Living areas. As for bouncers giving freebies, there are ways of kee ing track of how many people come in, and how much you make. Freebies can be nipped in the bud.

Yeah I work in a decently sized club... we only have 2 at a time usually... sometimes 1 during the day.
