LOL "California Knows How To Party...In The City, City of Compton.." Compton at #4, Oakland at #8, & these cities are in a state with nice weather, so no blaming it on a lack of sunlight.
(Richmond at #11, San Bernadino at #24....Representing Cali!)
(My brother beat up a kid from Flint. This guy said he was hardcore, "From Flint, Bitch!" My brother stated if he was so hardcore he would never have left Flint.)

I used to be able to walk to #4 from my old apartment... heh.
What? No Enn Why See? LOL....
And I'm sure, with all of the insane murders and violence and crap that's been going on in the past 2 months, Orlando is up on that list from June...

Re: 25 Most dangerous cities in the U.S., FBI rankings released in June
^ Philly is why California got "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." Be glad it didn't place!
Dude, seriously, more California cities should be on there. Stockton is stone cold scary now.
AMUSINGLY, Richmond is high rent even though it's #11 on the Dangerous list. (My friend lives there.) Fricking NorCal.

Re: 25 Most dangerous cities in the U.S., FBI rankings released in June
Emily, Philly isn't on there, but Camden is. So if you need that extra sense of danger and dread, just take a brief jaunt across the river. I'm surprised Philly's not on there, too, actually. The murder rate this year has been off the charts. And yeah WTF is up with Orlando? I grew up there, it was safe as can be.

Re: 25 Most dangerous cities in the U.S., FBI rankings released in June
I saw Camden...no doubt that's horrible.
And Reading?! What happens in Reading that's so bad?

One site I went to that compares crime rates gave St Louis (the #1 on the above list) a 4 out of 10 for violent and property crimes. It gave Orlando a 5 out of 10. Orlando has seen a 328 percent spike in murders during the first six months of 2006. Jeebus. Its so friggin insane here. And just look at this overview!

Re: 25 Most dangerous cities in the U.S., FBI rankings released in June
This list isn't completely accurate because only cities that reported their crime rates are included on it. How else do you explain New Orleans' absence from it, or the fact that as dangerous as St. Louis might be, it has a neighbor across the river which is notoriously worse.
Here's the whole list from least dangerous to most dangerous.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...n/4296378.html
Philadelphia came in 343rd out of 371 which means it would be 29th on a most to least dangerous list.
And Kansas City hitting twice in the 30 worst on here (one for Kansas City, KS and one for Kansas City, MO) doesn't surprise me in the least.

Yeah, he ain't kidding. East Saint is fucking scary. They can't even pay their cops, so take a wild guess how the cops get paid.

Re: 25 Most dangerous cities in the U.S., FBI rankings released in June
I'm surprised Memphis is 13th. I expected it to be in the top 5, if not top 3. Bleh.

What I want to know is exactly how it was measured. Reports of crime? Convictions? Actual deaths? Did they include rape? Molesters? Bread thieves? What?

I found this brief article which sort of explains things, but also suggests that flawed survey methodology more than actual crime is what places St. Louis so high.
http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/new...1?OpenDocument
The ranking is based on statistics compiled by the FBI, which has long discouraged city-to-city comparisons of the self-reported numbers. It does not compensate for the fact that some of the cities dominate their metropolitan areas, while the city of St. Louis has only about one-seventh of the population of its region.
The study examines the crime categories of murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, burglary and auto theft from last year for 371 cities of 75,000 or more residents.
Mind you this info comes from the same publisher who produces the Smartest State award. /:O

No surprise that Birmingham is in the top 10, there are so many crimes going on here.
-
Re: 25 Most dangerous cities in the U.S., FBI rankings released in June
I'm surprised by that list too. I've been to Toledo, OH (my best friend from high school lives there) and it's ranked as more dangerous than Milwaukee. I would've thought Milwaukee would be worse. Toledo seemed pretty safe to me. I'm sure it has its bad areas though.

I'm surprised Vegas is not on the list

Oh I hate going over that fucking bridge to E. St. Louis as I drive up to Flint where my family lives (and I did too - I'll vouch - that place sucked - not to mention I would commute to Detroit to work!)
