Got my 1st Guardasil shot yesterday......
And Damn did it hurt. Burned from my shouldwer to my fingertips. I had to sit there afterward instead of leaving because my arm was throbing so much it was shaking. But, it was the best $230 I've ever spent. My next shot is Jan 27th, and another $230, and another after that too. No insurance in my area is covering it yet, so it's all out of pocket, and some of my friends say they'd get it if it were cheaper. I'm like, Damn, who cares about the cost when you can be cancer free and one less std to worry about. At least half of my female friends have genital warts, and I wish I could go and tell the other half to talk to them about what they'd do if they could have gotten the shot, regardless of the cost, before being exposed. But, alas, it's something that is not my secret to tell.

Next exam I get, I'm getting it too. Nice to know how it feels before I get it. Thanks!
Re: Got my 1st Guardasil shot yesterday......
I'm already making plans. But here in CA it's 150 a shot for each of the three shots. no insurance covers it (at least not the state funding card.)

oh this sucks to hear. Try convincing a tween that a series of arm burning shots is for her own good.

Ask her if she'd prefer to have warts frozen off the inside and outside of her vagina. Not fun *cringes* I'd take shots any day over that crap.
Re: Got my 1st Guardasil shot yesterday......
Is it like the depo shot where they let you take it either in the arm or the butt muscle? I used to have that exact same pain when I'd get my depo shot in my arm-- something having to do with the displacement of tissue from the shot fluid. Transitioning the shot to my butt muscle was SOOO much better. Hardly any pain.
If you've got more shots ahead of you, ask if you can do it that way.
Also, there's always the potential that they're doing the shot wrong...be really careful, any shot can be done wrong. There was one girl I heard about who had her psyatic nerve affected by having her depo shot done wrong (though that was in the butt muscle.)
Re: Got my 1st Guardasil shot yesterday......
Anyone know if this is available in Canada? I'm not usually one for vaccines, but a cancer-preventing one, I'd do.

Re: Got my 1st Guardasil shot yesterday......
^ yup. really stupid. And at the moment only available to women
Re: Got my 1st Guardasil shot yesterday......
So you are allowed to get it if you are sexually active?
In that case, sign me up! My insurance is covering it.
Re: Got my 1st Guardasil shot yesterday......
You can request it if your older than 26. The reason it's for between 9-26 from what I'm told i sbecause after that you've probably either settled cdown with someone permanently, or you've already been exposed to all the cancer causeing ones.
I was talking with a guy from benchmark reaserch when I went there for some other unrelated drug trials, and on the chart it had one that is being made for women of up to 50 yrs old. The current one only protects against 4 of the 8 most common types. The other vaccine will cover the other 4 - cancer causing, not genital warts and cancer ones like guardisil. I forgot to ask if I am able to have the other one too when it comes out. It's just no wbeing reaserched, so probably not out for another 7 - 10 yrs from what he said.

I'm thinking about getting this. I'm in-between insurances right now (I'm still covered by my dad since I'm still in college, but he just got a new job, so new insurance doesn't kick in for 3 months). I'm hoping the new insurance will cover it, since the old one didn't. I've been with the same partner for 3 years, and don't plan on leaving him any time soon, but it still would be nice since you never know what may happen in the future.
