=( CNET editor found dead.
I've seen this guys reviews on gadgets.
He was missing and so was his family, unfortunately he went out to save them.
"I was impressed by how he was pretty smart to keep his family in pretty good shape for over 7 days and nights in those conditions.
I was hoping he would be found alive... last night when they found his tracks and pants (I was thinking he was leaving a marker) I was thinking maybe they would find him today -- alive." -anonymous
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
My grandma actually knew the guy. She was very upset to discover that he was dead.
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
It's a sad thing. I have a CNET magazine with an article with his face next to his name.
He was leaving bits of ripped up map and clothing as a trail. His father in law(?) paid a helicopter to drop off survival packages in the area he was thought to be in.
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
I couldn't help but cry a little bit this afternoon when I saw the news....there was just something about that mans face in the photos with his family that hit me hard .... I was so hoping they would find him alive.
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
oh no! that is so sad...i saw this on the news a few days ago, kept hoping that they would be found alive.
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
Michael was following the story for the last week... saying "They found his family!!" yesterday.
The whole time I kept saying, "He'll be found dead. He will.. just wait.. no, really..."
Bah. :/
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
I saw it earlier on the news...prayers go out to his wife and children.
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
"Despite those conditions, authorities said, he covered an estimated eight miles before rescuers on Wednesday found his lifeless body in a ravine.
"It seems superhuman to me that he was able to cover that amount of distance given what he had and also that he had nine days in the car" before setting out, Josephine County Undersheriff Brian Anderson said.
"I'm amazed," searcher Robert Graham told reporters. "We spent hours down there and made very little distance. ... The conditions were very rough. It's been cold, the terrain is so rugged, just spending one day out here is very exhausting."
- This gets me...he tried so hard...sigh. :(
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
I've been following the story. The whole thing breaks my heart.
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
I've been following the story too. I'm deeply saddened that he was found dead. I had hoped that he'd be found alive and reunited with the family that he worked so hard to try and save. They said on the news this morning that it was impossible for even some of the rescue team to travel the same path as this man did. People are amazing when they're protecting others they love---they can do things that they normally couldn't do. It's the adrenaline and the emotions all mixed together.
My thoughts are with his family.
CNET has a very touching tribute to him on the website.

He walked so far and was almost back where he started..
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
Tough place out there - not a house in site for miles around. Saw a Black Bar Lodge on the map but I bet that was closed up.
When I lived in the north, I always carried a below freezing rated sleeping bag in the trunk and some matches.
I heard on the radio just now the reason he went down to the river was because on the map it appeared to lead to a town they thought was four miles away. It actually was 15 miles away.

Tragic...they look like such a happy family. :(
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
I always rent a global satellite phone when I'm traveling to a remote location.
They cn be rented at 7 bucks a day... it could have saved his life.
God, I'm going to go back and cry now.
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
This so horrible. May his soul rest in peace.
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
Wow, that's really heartbreaking. :(
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
I actually laid awake thinking about this last night. Just imagining being the woman in that car with your babies and watching him walk off, or being him and dying thinking they aren't going to live. So sad.
Re: =( CNET editor found dead.
The search has been covered constantly here (Oregon) and I think everyone's heart dropped when they heard the news. If you've ever been to the Rogue River you've driven on that road and it's really treacherous even in good conditions; so scary to think what it was like for them. What a brave guy, though. They said he showed "superhuman strength."
