Re: Now Ive GAINED weight!
Muscle weighs more than fat, but it looks better. Plus muscle burns fat even when you're not doing anything, so increasing your muscle mass alone helps to burn fat. So this is not a problem. Don't worry about it!
Re: Now Ive GAINED weight!
it's ok. At first, it's hard. We still have all those cravings (junk, sweets, crunchy, calty, cold) so try to indulge on other things. See the cheat thread.... there are some super yum good treats there. Don't beat yourself up over it. And you should always weigh yourself in the morning! This weigh in hardly counts!
Re: Now Ive GAINED weight!
How are your clothes fitting? Try measuring yourself instead of using the scale. Sometimes the scale goes up when measurements go down. Don't worry your effort will pay off.

this is the only true way of knowing. the scales don't really tell you anything.
Re: Now Ive GAINED weight!
I bet you're more toned, though, right? When you lift, your muscles become saturated with water--that's what gives them the "tone". So it's just water pumping up your muscles.
Re: Now Ive GAINED weight!
Weight doesn't tell you anything.
I work out quite a bit and my weight has held steady but my body has grown smaller in my waist, hips and thighs and even looks more toned which makes it look even leaner.
so keep working out! and measure your progress on what clothes you fit, not what you weight! Also there is a short period where your body adjusts and you'll feel bloated from the water, but that will pass and you'll lose that.
Just remember to eat enough and drink plenty of fluids. I find that if I eat plenty and drink plenty, I lose weight faster than if I try to cut too many calories.
Re: Now Ive GAINED weight!
I just thought that after such a long break from exercise Id lose weight before I started to build muscle!
Im only lifting "baby weights" 5-8kg for back, upper body, and 10-15 for squats lunges, which I wouldnt have thought would be enough to bulk up yet :-(
Feeling down generally lately tho, maybe my mood is making me heavier lol
Re: Now Ive GAINED weight!
Actually yes, when you're stressed out or starving, your body will hold onto your fat stores. Some evolutionary trick in times of trouble to help our body. Too bad its a catch-22, right? It's hard to feel like you're in a good mood when you're not happy with the way your body is.
Also it looked like you've only been doing it for a week? For me the first two weeks is bloat time when I start excercising after being away from it for so long. I get the infamous water bloat which sheds itself so don't worry.
And building muscle is a good thing! Because muscle burns calories! So the more muscle you have, the more calories you'll be burning while you're sleeping.
;D
