Shooting At Foxy Lady Southcoast, New Bedford (MA)
Just checking in with our members who work there or visit that club. I was just watching the news and they said that shortly after 2 AM, there was a standoff with police there. Three people are dead, including the gunman. The gunman was wearing armor, and apparently he shot himself. There were a lot of people injured, including 2 police officers. It's still under investigation, so they're not releasing a whole lot of details.

Re: Shooting At Foxy Lady, Brockton (MA)
Ya there still isn't much detail wise. I've been watching the news since around 5am and they aren't saying much other than three (including the shooter) are dead and there were others injured including two cops working a detail at the club...
****
They're saying now that he was a regular there. They wouldn't let him in (not sure if he'd been kicked out that night or had previously been banned...

Another strip club shooting? What the hell is wrong with everybody lately?

Re: Shooting At Foxy Lady Southcoast, New Bedford (MA)
Oh, that's the one where the girl from Ivy League Stripper worked? (I don't know why I remember that).
Yikes, any updates?

Re: Shooting At Foxy Lady Southcoast, New Bedford (MA)
Last thing I heard; he had previously dated one of the bartenders there. They broke up, things got ugly, he was banned from the club. He showed up wearing body armor and had a M16 and another gun...
Hopefully they'll be more on the news at noon.

These people are crazy. Never mind I live a few miles away. That's scary to think things like this are going on not too far away from you while you're sleeping.

Nada. That Foxy Lady is in Providence, RI.
In any regard, its more press that this business certainly didn't need.

I love how his friend said he wasn't a violent person yet he had priors that were anything BUT non-violent...

Re: Shooting At Foxy Lady Southcoast, New Bedford (MA)
Ack -- he had installed their security system! ugh. My sympathies go out to everyone there. How awful to have your manager and a bouncer killed in front of you.
Metal detectors in clubs! Clearly they are needed.

Re: Shooting At Foxy Lady Southcoast, New Bedford (MA)
This was the club I started dancing at. I had the opportunity to work with the manager Tory and he was just an awesome guy. One of the few non-scumbage managers I came across as a dancer. He was the "cool manager," and everybody adored him. What an unfuckingbelievable senseless tragedy. I can't believe this has happened.

Re: Shooting At Foxy Lady Southcoast, New Bedford (MA)
this is a lil ot and a bit fucked up, but honestly im shocked there aren't more stripclub shootings that go on . ( although its damn near fact it prob does and we dont hear about them all. )
when you add drinking, naked people and obscene amounts of money plus hormones... its just a recipe for shit like this.
which is why more clubs ( and i cant figure out why they dont ) check people for weapons.

Re: Shooting At Foxy Lady Southcoast, New Bedford (MA)
Tart> I was kind of wondering the same thing. Strip club shootings don't seem that far fetched. Along with the factors you mentioned, it's a common place for drug use/ dealing. Great recipe for violence.

To be honest with you, I'll bet a lot of nightclubs that aren't strip clubs have an even higher incidence of shootings, other violent incidents, public drunkenness, police calls, etc. when you consider the difference in age of the clientele. Most guys I see in the SC are on the whole considerably older and at least by appearance, more docile, although as of late this newer and younger crowd has been making their numbers known.
Of course, the crazy thing about this particular shooting is that its really nothing more than your run of the mill domestic dispute/workplace shooting, that just happened to take place in a strip club. The very same thing happens in mainstream workplaces all the time.

Precisely why I feel anyone convicted of drug dealing ought to be legally blacklisted from setting foot on the premises of a nightclub or any type of SOB. If drugs were taken out of the equation, a lot of this violence would stop. Wishful thinking, I know.

yeah, since many times management are the ones buying/selling.

Re: Shooting At Foxy Lady Southcoast, New Bedford (MA)
^^ agreed. I think that stripclubs have a lil more prone-ness ( if thats a word ) to things like this since , there are a LOT of things that are a bit more common then in a normal club
For instance the pimps , the girls that work the clubs to get tricks after work, the dealers that ask the girls to help them .. . underage girls working to pay for habits or to get their boyfriends out of jail , orbeause they are run aways...and the managers that know this and claim to protect but only are really lining their pockets anyway that they can.
there is a lot of desperation and greed that goes on at strip clubs. and when the two butt heads... shit does tend to happen.
most nightclubs are more fighting and there are bouncers to usually defuse the situation.
I've worked in my share of stripclubs where there are either not bouncers or those that would have NO clue what to do if shit went down. and managers that see the girls as disposable.

Yet another example of why SCs are in decline...

Re: Shooting At Foxy Lady Southcoast, New Bedford (MA)
My goodness. Too much of this going on lately. There was a robbery about three miles away from my club at a smaller, dodgier strip club. :( They havent caught the guy yet. I'm glad we have a metal detector thing in the front of our club custies have to go through.

Re: Shooting At Foxy Lady Southcoast, New Bedford (MA)
Unlike my last club (where a year ago my best friend was shot and killed, and the asst manager badly wounded), the new one has very little trouble--there are way more fights in the sister (not a stripclub) club downstairs. But it is a very clean and strict club--I think that helps.
The greed and desperation that Tart mentions, being nearly endemic in the industry, do make it more likely that shootings, etc. will take place. Though it does seem that regular old fights are more common in 'normal' clubs.
It pisses me off that in this industry filled with human scum, the exceptionally cool people as this manager apparently was, so often wind up getting killed (like my friend, too).

Right on.
People think I sound insane on here for being so aggro all the time, but really, you will see the absolute worst of humanity in the Strip Club industry. I've had to sometimes entrust my safety to strangers I met in the club over the management I was working for....girls are not only disposable, but less than human to a lot of these club people.
