Another board i am on...a sad death
Not deserved. I found out just today, but this has happened a week ago? I did not look for the news about it yet. I will later i guess. I was told by another friend what went wrong. I was sent a link for comment/s
He is alone at home i guess feeding or cleaning not sure, the cage. And his large Boa killed him...
I met this nice guy on a board talking about snakes, as i own a few very large pythons and boas myself. Guess it was his female 12 foot if i remember her pictures.
When the medics got there he was dead. I don't know all the details. I did respond to a message about the killing....but not the news, or reading yet.
When we own these powerful animals we know what we are up against. Hell i own a Reticulated Python that is close to 14 now....He does NOT come out...but has a huge cage. He was experienced. At least knew what could happen...i'm confused.
I am sad. He was in his 40's according to our talks. He liked that animal alot.
It happens. Please don't slam this post with 'you get what you deserve.'
I almost sold him off a Burmese Python once.
The animal should not be put down imo. It's a risk. These are captives. I adore mine more than anyone i am sure....but i will miss our talks.
I only knew his user name. But his real name is Ted as sent to me. I know he was from Ohio...How sad to see a fellow animal lover go down this way.

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
Retics are aggressive that way. A little while ago a reticulated python ate a six-year-old girl... just swallowed her whole. I love snakes but couldn't imagine having a retic because of this.
Poor Ted. What an awful way to go.

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
There is always a risk with being the caretaker of a large, powerful animal.
If he was an experienced, conscientious person, then this was a horrible accident that occured, and he was well aware of the risks. The only time I get pissed off is when inexperienced people or unfit caretakers get large powerful animals and do it for machismo/ego-boost/show, not for the love of the animal/species. If some asshole gets a retic because it looks tough and it makes his balls feel bigger, then I don't feel bad for the guy- I feel bad for the snake that's ging to lose its life because oif a dumbass owner. In this case, I feel sorry for both the man and his snake.

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
Bella his name is KIT (it was a joke name) Killer in Training. Yes i have a picture of him and i when she was about 6 foot! Retics grow very fast! They are the longest snake, and stay pretty thin un-like a Burmese Python. I do admit i can't give him up i adore my Retic. I am aware of the risks...and have a 10foot male Boa as well.
I still feel sad. We chatted alot. He was clever...but we make mistakes. Another said that he got what he deserved...i can't go there. It's like another accident. It was a wild animal. Beautiful but deadly if they want.
I will miss his chats. Think he wanted to breed in the future as well.
I will send a pic. of Gorgo. My male Boa 10' and i hate the brag thing about size...i adore the smaller pythons as well..like my 2 Ball Pythons too.
What a loss...

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
Just to reiterate what Pamela said, he was killed by his boa, not a retic.
I've owned large boids, pythons and monitors (Reticulated Python, Blood Python, Burmese Python, Rer Tailed Boa, Argyle Monitor, etc). They're beautiful animals but they do come with thier own set of dangers no matter how "tame" they might seem. Even the best more well educated owners run the risk of something like this happening.
Once I had kids I stopped keeping anything that could pose a realistic threat.
Anyhow, it's always sad to see someone go like that. The worst part is stories like that, no matter how rare. always seem to feed the general fear and distaste for snakes. :(

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
Sorry put it in the wrong thread.....
Gorgo. My large male. Over a year old pic now. He is very large. I have people with me when he comes out. He bites, and i have respect for the life this poor animal lived before i got him...

And my Retic. KIT. Over a year ols as well (the pic) He is very long and agile/fast. And has not bitten me.
I love snakes. I love all animals. I know what i am getting into. My siggy pic, is a black tail Boa. Jules...he is 6 foot.
I have more...but i just want to stress the importance of the loss of a good internet bud and these animals that we both shared a love for.

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
Snakes are just gorgeous, amazing creatures. It's wonderful to see many caring people like your late friend and you, Pam. Unfortunately, I also see so many more that are not cared for and horribly neglected. After working for a public animal shelter, I became one angry woman. I'm always sad to see a caring animal person go before their time for any reason, esp for an horrible accident like this.
I'm sorry for your loss.

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
True story- my photographer back in California is our county's unofficial Reptile Rescue guy (the county is too poor to afford a professional one.) He got his pet boa because they found it in a downtown store....hiding on a shelf! Imagine being the shopper that had to tell the store manager..."You have a boa constrictor in that aisle."
Lady Gwen posed with the boa in some model shots. (I refused.)
Yep, I love snakes, at a distance. Garter snakes would make good pets (very docile) but they belong in the wild.

Im sorry for your loss...
I have a ball python also...couldnt imagine owning something as huge as the one in your post above!!! How big are your balls?

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
I have a female Ball Python who is a tad over 6' which is very large for a BP. People tell me to contact the World book of Records, but i am not sure of the longest found in the wild. But in captivity i seem to have the longest girl that anyone knows of on any reptile board.
I will put up a picture of Petie, i had her almost 8 yrs know (thought she was he, until i probed her). The 6 footer.
I have 2 others, one female, a tad over 3' and a little guy who was left at my door (go figure) in a small box on a Friday. So i named that one Friday
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...Picture209.jpg My large 6' Ball Python...i need to up-date, again about a year ago pic.
And little Friday around my wrist (Ball) and my 3' sweety Ball below...can't see much of her.

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
That is so sad. Amazing how you can feel the loss of someone you only know from online.
Snakes are beautiful but the big ones scare the hell out of me!

Gosh i now know. I think the last time we wrote on a board was about his snake. Actually he wanted a Burmese Python i had once too. He was well enough adjusted. A smart man who cared about his Boa. I thought he had purchased another large snake, but maybe he changed his mind.
He was very cool. Used to get some shit because of the way he kept it. But i don't get involved in that stuff. He never talked about puttiing this animal around his head, and i read he was pulled in the cage a bit...Good lord.
Damn....these animals are sent here, and we do our best to take care of them, but i don't like the whole buying these as pets. Mine are all throw away snakes. Except the Burmese Python i had. But sold.
Sad, and it just sucks. I was just reading some of the messages he sent me..Gosh.

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
Damn Pam, 6 ft IS big for a ball (that's the type of snake in my sig pic, I love them).
Gotta say, i'm duely impressed to hear you actually know how to probe. Nice!
We have to compare notes sometime...
-
Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
You got it hun! Yea i made a comment a while back about a Ball Python going south or something like that on your siggy! ;)
Yea i probe my own snakes...because people try guess work by the spurs on the big guys or lack of, and tail length, not the best way, only a guess at best.
;)

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
So sorry to hear about this, Pam.

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
Speaking of big snakes, a 22 foot python was captured in my neighborhood when I lived overseas. That was a BIIIIG MF'er. He was kept in an enclosure at the JEST facility (jungle environmental survival training?) and my class got to go oooh and ahhhh at him during a field trip. Incidently, many small pets were reported missing for some time before the snake was captured. :(

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
Yea i seen a show where a man who played in a band had a large Boa he used in his shows and it got out one day and ate the old ladys little Pom. She loved that dog. He was sitting there with his snake talking about it like it was no big deal..Well it is.
Those are the people i have not one ounce of respect for. They are neighbours, and must have liked each other i guess. As she seen this snake eating her dog she took pictures (the dog had a doggie door) and talked fine about the incident.
I would have sued the shit out of him. He would not have been there sitting with his snake loving on it talking about what happened and how bad he felt i it were my dog.

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
snakes are so beautiful. i can see why people get thoroughly beguiled by them.

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
i had a corn snake...not nearly as big as a boa.... but damn that sucks
-
Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
My Dad just recently had his 2 birds eaten by a wild carpet python. The snake couldn't get out of the cage as it had grown too fat. Dad released it into the wild. I told him he should of kept it as a pet. One of those birds was adorable :(

Re: Another board i am on...a sad death
Yea Carpet Pythons have teeth made to catch birds out of branches these snakes live on! Drink water off of leaves in trees...rerely hit the ground...great animals.
Damn bite from one of them is like 2 huge needles going in deep, have to open the mouth and pull them off!
I almost got one. But upon meeting him i passed. I'll take my Retics over a Carpet anytime...But Carpets are selling like crazy. Retics not.
I don't buy...only purchased one for educational reasons. Other than that too many of these beautiful animals are throw aways like all our other animals...sad.
