A man (who had his 2 kids with him) dove onto the subway track and laid his body over a man having a seizure to save him as a train approached.

It sure seems to have been awhile since anyone's smiled :D
Awesome story!! Thanks, Silena!!
Reading that made me feel good and I really needed it today ...thanks.
They were both very lucky. I dunno that it was the right thing to do though; was it really worth the risk of his three children growing up fatherless? And the risk of two of the children watching their daddy dying that way? Even though everyone involved came through it okay, it was probably quite traumatic for the two that did see what happened.
I'm glad they were all so lucky. I just don't know that this is what he should've done.
It was very rash, but it's amazing that this man risked his life like this to save a stranger. People like this give the whole world hope.
And he refused medical attention afterwards, and visited the guy he saved in the hospital. Amazing.
I'd like to think a lot of us would have that kind of reaction, but I don't know. It would be pretty easy for me to think about my family -- and be scared -- and hesitate just a little too long. And hesitating and thinking about your kids might even be the right thing to do, but no question this guy has real courage.
He's getting rewarded, which I think is great. Such a good person deserved the recognition and a few benefits.
he got 5k and a free day from work.
it's an aol news link, so if you can't read it off of aol, sorry :(
"It ain't about being a hero, it was just being there and helping the next person. That's all I did."
^^ so, If we were to chart his "class" by his speech, he's a lower class citizen. But if you ask me, he tops the upper charts :)
I don't think it traumatized his little girls. They probably think their daddy is a super-hero. I think it would have been more traumatic for them to see some guy get squashed by a train while everyone gasped in horror.
I think he did the right thing. And, I think he deserves a really, really big pat on the back.
i'm pretty sure he's about to go into post-traumatic stress disorder. i think the auto-pilot kicked in on the day, and now he's sitting back thinking, 'faaarrk'.
i would be.
**pops some pills**
The thing that most impressed me was why he reacted how he did.
The majority of people who go out of thier way to help people do it because they enjoy the reaction and attention resulting from it. This guy did it because it was the right thing to do. No other reason. From all the news out here he's really shunning all the attention/accolades and is uncomfortable with it all.
People like him are far and few between but thank god they exsist. They make mankind something to hold hope for.
ha! i like that lolarose.
and, wow. what a story. i love that they offered his kids scholarships to the New York Film Academy, that's fantastic.
Wow, the last time me heart was so warmed was when the Amish embraced the gunman's family and set up funds to help them out.
I'm torn about this just like Yek--although, I have to say, seeing him on the news made me so happy. He seems like a great guy.
Donald Trump gave him a check for $10,000! And then fired him. ;)
This is what I was going to say, VG, about the kids being more traumatized by seeing everyone just gape at the horrible scene and do nothing, I think its amazing for them to not only see a courageous heroic act, but one initiated by their own father. This guy rocks, no question.
