Re: Getting rid of geckos
Aww... there has to be a way to get the lil guy out... is there like a trap and release trap you can get or something? Maybe call the humane society and ask them how you can get the lil guy out?
Re: Getting rid of geckos
maybe a cage with food in it?
Or put food out on newspaper and have a really big plastic bowl handy :D
Re: Getting rid of geckos
Buy a clear plastic storage tub & set it on its side in your room where the gecko hangs out. Put food & foliage in the tub. See if you can catch him in there & pick up the tub so he gets trapped in the bottom.
(Sounds silly but we used to trap SNAKES in our house..they invaded to get the mice infesting the house...)
Re: Getting rid of geckos
We always had them in the house when I was growing up in Florida. Anoles and treefrogs, too. It just kinda comes with living there, you know?

When I was in Florida the chick who I was staying with had albino geckos all around her property. I thought it was awesome. But of course they were irritating the hell out of her. I really like the commercials though :P
Re: Getting rid of geckos
Dont you have a friend or something who isnt afraid to touch it, who can come in and get it out for you? If not, just trap it in something and huck it back outside...get a fishing net with a handle from Wal-mart-no touching required.
Re: Getting rid of geckos
If you weren't so far away I'd come catch it for you...my gecko needs a buddy. But he's safe in his terrerium. Seriously though, everything I've read says that geckos don't bite. We've taken ours out of his terrerium hundreds of times and he's never even tried to bite. So I say just pick him up and put him back outside. They make good pets though, and they love crickets :)
Re: Getting rid of geckos
I had a few gecko room mates on Guam years ago. They were quiet and ate the bugs. I couldn't have asked for better.
Re: Getting rid of geckos
i love geckos... so cute. until they do that clicking/kissing noise in the middle of the night...
bah. little buggers.
they're so fast, impossible to catch. even that retard cat round here can't catch them. i have no useful advice, save that if there is nothing to eat, the little guy will diiiiie. (save him)
Re: Getting rid of geckos
Geckos are too cute...my cat loves to watch them, but she hates to be outside. So she used to go out on the porch...catch 'em..then let them go in the house so she could watch them run around!!!
I have no problem with them...they're cute and they eat bugs(and I'd MUCH rather have lizards then bugs in my house!!)
I catch them or shoo them outside if I can....just so the cats dont get them but it isnt a big deal.
I'll come down and get your for you!!LOLOLOL!
But please dont use glue traps..they are horribly cruel...
Re: Getting rid of geckos
I live on the lake so I get geckos and all kinds of bugs all summer. If I'm not watching, my cats will take care of the little critters. I think they're cute, and they help control the bug population so I'd rather not have them harmed. I've designated one huge, cheap plastic cup as "the gecko cup." I even labeled it with a permanent marker so nobody would be tempted to drink from it. Anytime I see a gecko, I run and grab the cup from under the sink, scoop him up, and release him outside. It's really pretty easy. Getting to the gecko before my cats do is the hard part, even though they prefer to play and watch rather than kill. Their playfulness has led to lots of gecko's freaking out and losing their tails, and a few accidental deaths.
In all cases, even when I've had to get the gecko with my hand, they have never bit me or hurt me in any way. The worst that will happen is a bit of squirminess and a tail flopping off and wriggling on the ground. I even wrenched a gecko out of my cats mouth and he still did not try to bite. They are completely harmless.
You may want to try the scoopy cup. As long as the inside of the cup is smooth, the gecko will have a hard time getting out. You can shake the cup lightly to keep him at the bottom of the cup while you get to the door.
I agree, please dont use glue! That would be such a cruel death.
Re: Getting rid of geckos
^^I think you have a different type of more terrestrial gecko, Zabrina. I know when I lived in AZ the ones we had were ground geckos, much more like a leopard or fat tailed gecko. The ones in Florida are usually Mediterranean House Geckos, and they climb walls like tree frogs. They're fast and REALLY difficult to catch. Your gecko cup idea wouldn't work on these guys. I like the idea though.
Re: Getting rid of geckos
All you do is put a large mouth glass over the guy, slide a paper over the top quickly and remove him...i have them all over. But i let them...they eat the house spiders and will drink from our sinks, tubs and glasses left out.
I adore a Gecko in my home!
Re: Getting rid of geckos
^^^Mine do climb walls and even windows. They can climb anything and can be a serious pain to catch (Especially when its me racing with 4 cats). I just have to corner 'em, and grab 'em. If they are on the wall I have to knock them onto the carpet first, but it is possible to snatch them without harming them.
Actually now that I think about it, I do know what you mean with FL geckos. I remember seeing those now. The FL kind were dark, very small, and faster than my pale, larger variety. It probably would be much more difficult to scoop the FL version, you are right.
As a preventive measure, its a good idea to make sure your house is sealed up tight. Having my boyfriend replace the weather stripping around the back door really cut down on how many geckos I get in the house. OP may want to check around the home and seal the entry points.

At times they run from me as well. But turn that AC on and let the temp. drop on them...they move slow!
Re: Getting rid of geckos
i love em.
i try to get them out before my two hunters get them. i think it's cool to have them around.
i dont think they would crawl on you or anything if thats what you are afraid of.
we have mediterrian house geckos and another kind that is bigger and more clear looking
