Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
I havent been working for awhile, and i gained weight from that and eating all the wrong foods. I was pretty depressed so i would just binge on ben and jerrys and any kind of junk food. I couldent live like that anymore so i cleaned up my diet for the past 2 months. All i have been eating is veggies, fruit, and salmon every once in awhile. I have been walking 2 miles a day(cant run, knees are messed up) and doing pilates(sp). I am gaining weight!!!! i have gained 6 pounds! i am keeping my cals at 1000 a day-1200 a day if im REALLY hungry.
I just want to scream right now! i have tried doing more cardio at the gym, and drinking more water. i dont feel like this is working :'(
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
Go to the doc and get some blood work done. It could be a thyriod prblem. My mom had this issue at age 26.
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
Maybe you're gaining muscle. Have you lost inches?
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
What are your measurements? The number on the scale can be deceiving, because muscle weighs a lot more than fat. A woman who weighs 110 pounds can be loose and wide, and a toned, muscular woman could weigh 140 pounds but look better than the lighter one. The number on the scale really isn't worth stressing over!
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
I have gained 2 1/2 inches on my waist. everywhere else has stayed the same so far..let me go measure myself today...
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!

hips-36
=(
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
I'd recommend seeing a doctor. It sounds like you have a physical problem.
Any chance you could be pregnant?
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
yeah i guess i will have to go see a doc...didnt think about being pregnant! crap i hope not! now im all paranoid lol!
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
Well, I do recommend going to the doctor for unexplained weight gain. If it is thyroid problems, it could accelerate rapidly.
But I have to chime in... your measurements seem perfectly proportionate. Could it be that your body is rebounding and you *needed* to gain some weight? Do you mind sharing height/weight with us?
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
Nope i dont think i needed to gain weight at all! i am 5'6 1/2 and as of today i weight 134.
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
You sound perfectly normal and shapely to me. How old are you? Maybe your hips are just still growing. My mom was still growing at 21; if you were a late bloomer, this could just be hormones making you more womanly. :-*
Seriously, you really sound fine to me.
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
I don't know about the routine causing weight gain, but I agree that your height, measurements, and weight sound completely normal. Not at all overweight.
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
But, if you are weighing in at 134 now, and you just gained 6 pounds, you could have been underweight before.
Also, I would strongly, strongly advise that you 1) go to the doctor and 2) keep an eating journal. Log in everything that you put into your mouth whether its water or ice cream. Log it all. There may be stuff you are eating (or drinking) that is sabotaging your diet.
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
Babe, you are not overweight by any standard! But I know how it feels to feel like the body needs a firming, and your efforts are thwarted by weight gain. 1200 calories a day is not sufficient if you are doing alot of exercise. tryo uping your intake to about 1500. Your body maybe going into a starvation mode due to all the exercise, and without enough calories to fuel the extra need, any calories your body gets, it will hang onto and store. I know it sounds confusing, but trust me, I know all too well from doing competitive shows. Also, what are you eating as far as carbs? You need some amount of carbs, but the right kind. stay away from "white carbs" like bread, potatoes, white rice, crackers, pasta...anything made with white flour. Instead go for yams, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, whole grain breads. But do not eat too much of it in one day. If your interested, I can send you a complete carb cycling diet that I used when I trained for shows. I pretty well keep up with it when I don't compete, I just tweak it here and there. It's a starting point at least.

Really if you are only eating veggies n fruits and salmon then youre seriously starving yourself of many other valuable nutrients that could help you loose weight. The sufficient amount of vitamins and minerals are essential to staying healthy while you loose weight.
I 2nd the food journal thing. It really does show you what you put in your mouth. You can look back on wednesday and see that you had alot of cheese or wtvr else may be sabatoging you. Also just because the food is considered "diet" food doesnt mean its helpful to your new eating lifestyle.
Also are you weight training? For wt you are definitely going to need more than 1200 cal to make those muscles grow and eat fat. Sometimes when we restrict our calories so much our bodies go into shock saving everything we are eating thinking were on a deserted island or something. IMO, wt, caridio and eating all fit together like a puzzle. If you miss out on one then your weight loss plan, lifestyle or goals will be incomplete.
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
I agree with what Sinder; 1000-1200 calories isn't enough and you may be sabotaging your metabolism. You're also well within the appropriate weight range for your height and your measurements sound ideal. Don't go by the scale. Even at my thinnest, I was always "skinny-fat". My dear friend who was always thinner than me, but pure muscle, weighed 10 pounds more.
Also, Pilates is great, and I love it, but I wouldn't expect to lose weight doing it. I think it's a wonderful form of adjunct exercise to lifting weights, but it only works as a sole form of exercise for ectomorph-types. So think about the Body for Life program.

That sounds like it's on the lower end of the healthy weight range, meaning that, like others have said, you were underweight and now your body is getting back into balance. Happened to me after a bout of anorexia- EVERYTHING made me gain weight (regardless of exercise) because my body had been starved. Given time and a well-balanced, non-starvation diet, your metabolism will normalise again.
Regardless, I would still say you need to see a doctor to rule out pregnancy and thyroid problems.
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
I second/third the comments about undereating. 1000 calories a day isn't very much, especially if you are exercising. And fruits, veggies, and salmon shortchange your system of nutrients.
It may have made your body slow its metabolism to try and maintain its health, which caused the weight gain. I would add lean protein to your diet, chicken, tuna, nuts, and another 200 calories.
Re: Why do i keep gaining! i feel like crying!
Are you on any meds at all?
