Just seeing if anyone has had this procedure.
I had my right ovary removed several years ago and then had my uterus removed (hysterectomy) about two years ago. They did it through my vagina, so I had no scar. And I kept my left ovary which stopped me from going into premature menopause.
I don't know what your medical issues are but mine were endometriosis and adenomyosis (which can only be detected by removing the uterus). I was in chronic pain for 7 years. The very evening of my surgery, even though I was sore and in pain from surgery, I could tell that the poison in my body was gone. It was amazing.
It took me about two weeks to recover and I actually got in trouble with my doc for trying to go work out too soon. I felt that good! It was one of the best decisions I've ever made in my life, and believe me, I labored over it. No young woman wants to face that kind of surgery, but if you have pain like I had you should look into it as a real possiblity.
Oh, and yes, the cervix was removed. But my vagina and everything about myself down there is the same as always. My sex life improved 100% because I never had to worry about pain (or contraception) again.
Something tells me it would be an elective surgery for you, fancygirl. No?
I've thought about it. Honestly, I want the whole situation down there yanked out and thrown away. I don't need it for anything. It only causes me trouble.
My mom had one. Her uterus had precancerous tumors, and she opted to get the thing yanked out. In her opinion, it was the best thing she ever did for herself.
no kids AND no periods while not having to go on hormone therapy? Can life get any better for someone who doesn't want kids? I submit that it cannot!
I wouldn't think it's a surgery you could just choose to get done without medical reason? I could be wrong though.
Sorry for butting in, I mostly lurk here for the very insightful beauty/body tips. I have had a total abdominal hysterectomy. Best thing I ever did. May I suggest this website?:
It contains good, honest advice from those who have been there. It was a godsend to me during my health crisis. As much great information as I have gleaned from this site, I feel the least I could do is offer this in return.
I want my shit out too! The plumbing is damaged anyway. Can one donate a healthy uterus to someone who needs it? My ute is fine, albeit tilted. The rest of the shit is jacked up. Girl parts begone! I'm happy with my clit and anus to be honest.
Sorry, didn't mean to make light of this thread.
^^^I want mine gone, too!
That site scared me more than anything else. It had good info, but there were a lot of horror stories. If this is something you HAVE to get done you don't want to hear horror stories, well, at least I didn't.
And I did have surgery complications, but I would still go through it all again.
Andy, what were your complications?
Ok, so without a cervix can you get penetrated like REALLY deep? What is to stop anything from getting lost in there? Does that make sense what I'm asking?
My day is coming sooner than I think to have this procedure. I am only delaying it in *hopes* of bearing another child. The plan with my ob/gyn is to do a partial removal at time of cesarean birth (if that even happens). My female parts have some serious issues. I have a didelphys uterus, cystic ovaries, fibroids, endometriosis, the list keeps growing the older I get.
I had a pretty bad bleeder after surgery and when the nurse came to check my packing I was bleeding all over the place. She freaked out, called the doc, all the surgeon's assistants, anesthesiologist, etc. had to be called in because this was at night. I basically had to go in for a second surgery, be completely put under again.
The weird thing was it wasn't that big of a deal to me because I was seriously doped up, but my mom and dad and my fiance all looked white as they were wheeling me in. It wasn't anything serious, but I lost a lot of blood and I wasn't looking good at all.
As for the cervix, it's just normal feeling. I think I could be penetrated a little deeper, but there is still an end there. You can stick your finger in and feel where it is and it's like a cervix, but not. It's hard to explain. I don't think anything could get stuck in there since you can reach the end. Sex is so much better without the pain, I have never really been phased by not having a cervix.
Keep an ovary though!!! I cannot express that enough. Doc wanted to take mine, but I refused. I occasionally get pain in that area, but it's worth not having menopause at 32.
^^^ Fortunately, only my right ovary gives me complications, so I will keep my left.
Are you still able to stay off of hormone replacement therapy since you do have the one functioning ovary? Do you have any sort of peri-menopause/menopause symptoms at all?
Thanks, you answered my questions clearly about the lack of having a cervix and the effect on sex. Both my husband and I look forward to the day when we will not have to worry about "hitting the wrong spot" during sex. Poor guy gets some nasty bite marks on his neck (not the fun, cute kind but the instinctual, defense mechanism bite).
I don't take anything hormonal and I've never had a symptom of any of that stuff. I'm only 32, so I don't expect anything resembling menopause until I'm in my '50s. My mom is 54 and is just now starting hers, and she's barely had a symptom.
Good health, eating right, etc., can prevent menopause from being the beast people make it out to be. There have been studies linking soy consumption and reduction of menopause symptoms, etc. You should look it up, it's interesting.
Lilith Morrigan had one.
Okay-- from what I've gleaned in my online research:
some obgyn's feel that leaving in the cervix is better because there's less of a chance of surgical complications including the bladder, bowels, or sexual function:
However, as to sexual function, or any other differences between a sub and a total hystertectomy, there doesn't seem to be much . A total requires about one more day in the hospital, typically there's more bleeding, but with a sub 7% of women continue to experience menstrual bleeding.
KEEP YOUR OVARIES.
These are necessary for your bone health especially, but also other hormone functions. Little known fact: Your ovaries still put out hormones after menopause, but at about a 25% rate of previous levels. Still necessary to have them, so if any of you are close to menopause or starting it, keep your ovaries.
My plan for a subtotal is only to remove the uterus. I do not have medical complications, but in a perfect world I would want to be sterilized and not have periods, and thus not have to take BC in order to prevent pregnancy or not have periods (I'm on Depo.)
There's a hospital outside the US that has quoted me 6,000 for a subtotal. I still have to do a consultation, but because they don't have the malpractice issues that the US has, I don't think it will be much of an issue.
A woman can be healthy without a uterus, and considering all the other surgeries women electively do, I don't mind going under the knife for something that is so functional as well as aesthetically pleasing (I say this because BC fucks up my body just a tad.) <-- I just include this part because of all of the ferver that was kicked up by well-intentioned but totally irrelevant posts to my tubal ligation post.
I do not have medical issues at all, and would LOVE to give my uterus to someone if they could use it-- but I don't think that type of donation is allowed yet.
I still have LOTS of research to do, but I don't want to hear any of the bullshit that was in the sterilization post about giving this really careful thought, or how much I'm going to regret it and desperately desire little bastards of my own some day. If that happens, I will ADOPT.
Okay, back to your previously scheduled discussion on SUB-TOTAL hysterectomies (okay, okay, all sorts of hysterectomies, but really, as the OP I'm looking for any info on sub-totals.)
If you get a sub-total and have kept your cervix, remember you still need to get an annual Pap smear.
If the demand for donor uteri is anything like that for other major organs and if you can find a compatible buyer donating your uterus should pay many times over for the surgery. There's numerous places in the world where this is standard practice even if officially illegal.
^ I just don't know how I'd go about doing that :/
I mean, my cousin has a screwed up uterus. I wouldn't mind GIVING mine to hers, if she was able to use it...but I don't even know if they're doing that sort of surgery yet.
Hi gals, i just started a thread including a link to a Dr. Miklos in Atlanta. I found his site and resume to be incrediably informative so maybe give that a peek for some info. I know he has founded many procedures and is held in many high regards.
http://www.tvtsling.com/cresearch.php
hate to repeat myself again, but if you didn't read the other thread, he has been asked to do show comparable to dr. 90210. i believe he is giving 1/2 off price for those willing to participate. But please contact him, i really don't know all of the details. Good luck for anyone going under!
That's a great attitude. I thought there would be info on that matter that could help you. Why are you such a smart ass? Is anyone qualified to give you medical info on here? Why don't you just ask a doctor? Don't be so mean. Plus saving money on surgery, I thought would be appreciated. ::)
Ya see, here's the thing. The info you posted has NOTHING to do with the thread.
Plus, didn't you already start a thread with this info?
Oh and:
I came out of my mom's vag this way.
It's what makes me the sparkling ray of sunshine that I am.
as far as I could tell, it wasn't really helpful. Know you meant well, but they're looking for women with bladder problems, or postmenapausal women.
I don't want to be a guinea pig--there's a surgery right for my request that's not experimental.
