Re: How to get back on track
this is burn out.
i find taking a break and subsequently running out of money is a great motivational tool :D
good luck honey, take a break!
Re: How to get back on track
I'm going through the same thing...I get motivated to go to work and the possibility of it...However when I get to work I fall apart and my motivation goes out the window. I'm in a position where right now I NEED to hustle to stay afloat finicially, but I just can't push as hard as I used to. I want to smack myself in the head because I feel as though I'm being stupid...But it's burn out and the slow season doesn't help.
Re: How to get back on track
I could have posted this myself. If anyone has any tips I'm looking foward to reading them.
Re: How to get back on track
I think you just hate the job, honey. For you, I suspect something goal oriented might be the key. Finding something that you want and funding it, as opposed to just accumulating money through dancing.
Re: How to get back on track
Sounds like you are burnt out on the stripper job. Take a break if you can afford to, it's early January.
Get a day job part time in combination with your stripper job if you can to be in a normal work setting outside of the entertainment industry.
Re: How to get back on track
Here's a pretty good article on some tips:
http://www.mindtools.com/stress/Brn/CopeWithBurnout.htm
Maybe you just need a change of pace? Maybe the same walls, same staff and same music are just too much right now. Ever thought of working in a different club or maybe even in a different city for a while? Sometimes doing a random discipline is a good thing. I remember reading (I think in his book) that Bill Gates drives a different way to work every day. The reason is to just create more randomness in his life to keep his mind stimulated. Perhaps that might be what you need?
Re: How to get back on track
I dont think you are burnt out. I think burnout would mean that youd wanna kill every customer who came in. Loathing the whole job in general.
You actually just sound bored. Maybe do some travelling would do the trick? While traveling maybe take on a different stripper persona.
I sorta feel the same way just not as extreme. I think its why I go back and forth between clubs sometimes.
Re: How to get back on track
Maybe you don't know why you're doing this job anymore. Not only do you not have passion for the job but you don't even understand the point of going in and talking to these men. Are you saving money for anything other than covering bills? I have a little index card i carry with me that lists what I want to buy this month, the $$ I need in my savings accts, etc. When I am at work I can look at that card and think "Ok, just 5 more dances and I can check this off my list." Helps me focus.
Re: How to get back on track
Thanks for the opinions...I think everyone is a little bit right. Thanks for the link, DW. It was helpful. I can't travel too much, or really get another job while I'm at school...it kinda rules things for me. But I'm going to try just cutting down on work hours to the bare minimum for a while, focusing on school, maybe volunteer at the amnesty international building (literally next door to where I live), and then I'll try going back a little stronger in a few weeks. That's my short term plan, anyway.
Re: How to get back on track
ehhh. I'm in the same boat. I'm going blonde in 2 weeks, and I'm going to change my name, go tanning...
hope that'll help!
Re: How to get back on track
I have a night like this maybe once every other week, rarely but sometimes once a week. I get there, and look around and see people in the seats, but have no urge to go talk to them. None. And when someone actually asks me for a dance I even...... hesitate. (but still say yes, I haven't gone TOTALLY nuts)
I don't know what causes this. But to get over it I think of my friend I work with. The girl hustles her ass off. And she goes home happy with herself every night.
I need to repeat that. She is happy with herself. Even if she didn't bank...she pushed. So I use her motivation on those nights when I have none.
And IF I still can't shake it, I go home so that I wont stay frustrated and bummed out. I get out of the club before it leaves a bad stain.....figuratively speaking.
If the feeling lasts longer than a day....yah, a break is needed, do something fun and different. Do something exciting. Go back and try again.
Good luck! ;D
Re: How to get back on track
it sounds like you don't have a passion for it anymore or you just don't like/love doing what you are doing?
I don't know....i don't know if it is burn out or your just fed up with dancing and need a job change. That's something only you can determine.
But i can tell you one thing....if you going to keep thinking about all the bad negative things then that's the results that will come.
if you change your thinking to good thoughts and positive thoughts the results from that will be good and psoitive.

What an excellent tip, thank you so much! :D
Re: How to get back on track
What are your goals? Get focused and stay on task. I see girls every night that do the same thing you're talking about and for the life of me I don't understand why they come, stay home if you don't want to work. To me, it looks like laziness, but I'm sure there's a bigger issue here. Find out what it is and get over it fast. If it's burn out, take time off.
Otherwise, find something that makes you happy and focus on that. I work really hard to keep myself in a good mood at work and will laugh at nothing and smile out of nowhere to exude this aura of happiness and in turn I feel great even when I'm not. People want to spend money on me b/c I'm mad cool and I am one of the few girls that look like I actually enjoy what I do. I have even had bouncers comment on how happy I look when I'm with customers. I'm thinking great even the staff is buying my happy routine, gotta love it.
Re: How to get back on track
I relate. Usually customers comment non-stop on my smile and laugh, how fun I am, and what a good attitude I have, etc. I'm known for being that girl, but for the last few weeks I just haven't been able to pull it off. I still *make* myself go up to customers, and I'm still doing OK money-wise (for January -- blech) but I don't have the mojo I used to have, and don't know how to get it back. I'm just crossing my fingers hoping a change of seasons will do the trick.
Re: How to get back on track
You NEED to take a break. Dancing can wear on you. Take a vaction!!! At least a week. A recent study showed that if employees took at least a week of vaction every 6 months, that their job perfomance was better than those that did not. Why do you think that employers give vaction time at reg jobs? Go on vacatin YOU NEED IT!!!!!!!! I promise that when you get back you will be back in "the mood" to dance and hustle. You have to take time off for yourself. This buisness will wear and tear on you if you don't. If you don't have the money to get away then just take some time off to yourself and friends at home. It will make you feel 100% better!! You will have a nice convo story for custys too " I just got back from ..."
Take it easy, you need a break=)
Re: How to get back on track
I totally understand what you mean. I've been feeling like that too lately. Maybe it's January though, it is a verrry bad month here. For me to not just say :censored: it and quit one day I move around the clubs. One day the NuDen, Taboo the next, Playmate, Silver.. Etc. Being at Pigale's though babe, your not gonna get much better anywhere else. However it might bring your hustle back a little. Maybe your just "comftorable" and in a rut. If you ever wanna do some traveling, I know your in school, but if you just want to go to Montreal for the evening, or something, I'm your girl! Montreal is insane money, and I mean in-fucking-sane.
I'm a hustler, but sometimes I stand around and wait for them to talk to me too, 60% of the time they will, but that's when you gotta push yourself. The first guy you see, talk to him. Give him 4 minutes of it all, the smiles, the eye blinks, flirting, then ask for a dance, if he says no, you only waste 4 minutes. Go right to the next. Heheh.
Re: How to get back on track
Thanks Gia. It does feel slow...I'm on a work break now for a couple weeks to catch up with essays, midterms, etc (also I have a deathly cold that makes me sound unwell enough on the phone with my manager for him to ponder if I am dying of pneumonia). When I am back at it and feeling well, I will surely pm you. I've always been curious about Montreal!
Re: How to get back on track
So, I would like to know, do you feel better on your break? I get REALLY burn out like how you do where I want to cuss out and smack everyone in the club 24-7. Usually a good two three weeks off and I miss my friends, managers, bartenders, custies and getting naked
Re: How to get back on track
Yeah, this is week three and I'm definitely going back next week. I'm hungry to be making money again, if nothing else. I have a paper due in every class this week, but with that all behind me, I'll be able to go full-drive when I go back on Monday. I do think the break has helped. I guess I'll know for sure when I go back though.
Re: How to get back on track
Good luck girl, it's been shit lately.. Sorry to disappoint.
Re: How to get back on track
Good lordy lord. I went in at 10 last night, and left at three with $210. BOO. There were about four guys and at least 15+ girls for the last two hours, so I just spent those last two hours trying to alternate standing and leaning so as not to fall asleep on my feet. Plus everyone hates my new hair, and I hate it too, and I've gained some weight back (double BOO...my body wants so badly to be fat right now; I need to be extra viligant with my eating and running, which sucks). So I feel ugly and unmotivated, but I'm back on the horse tonight.
