Yes, but not as much as I would if I ate in the restaurant. Basically just for the host/ess trouble for putting together the order and such. So about 10%. Of course this is just for real restaurants, not fast food.
hmm, i don't really. but tipping is really not common practice in australia. the only time we ever tip even if we eat at a restaurant is if there's going to be a bit of change left over and we can't be bothered with it, but we never specifically leave a tip. generally people just don't do it here.
For general take away or delivery?
If I'm going in to pick it up then no unless Ive ordered something a special way and they happily accommodated me. If they go above not screwing up my order then yes I will tip them.
I usually do but I've been wondering also if it's the norm. Like if I order sushi for lunch and pick it up I'll tip $2 or $3. If I go pick up a bunch of stuff for a few people I'll add more like 15% on. I just feel like they had to prepare it and that is how they make their $$$ so I ought to tip. But I always wondered if most people do or not.
It depends where I order from. If it's the local sub shop or Chinese take out then no. If I order from a regular restaurant and get to-go instead of dine-in I always tip if the waitress who put the order together, considering there's just as much care in that as there is waiting on me. I'd feel guilty if someone who's working for tips took care of me and I didn't give a gratuity.
Yup, always. I tip better for places that I ONLY get take out from, especially if they know me, but I always tip something, at least a couple bucks.
So umm... Im thinkin when I go to Aust its gonna be well known im Canadian lol...
Im the queen of overtipping.. like tonight I tipped the pizza dude $10 *blush*
I don't unless it's delivery. When you're at a sit down restaurant, you receive service, refills and they check on you to make sure if you need anything else. Whereas if you're just getting takeout, you're not getting service from a waitress and all they do is cook your food and you come and pick it up, so I see no need to tip for that.
If someone takes the times to package your food in to-go containers and takes care to make sure the contents are intact and temperature right when you eat it, they deserve a tip. Period. It takes just about as much effort from the waitress to package that stuff nice for you as it would for her to refill your drink and clean up your mess so she should get something.
Take out: I usually only tip a dollar or two. They didn't have to deal with much.
Delivery: Yes.
Well, no answer so.... if it's take away, I tip a lil. They are doing the cooking for me, after all... for delivery, I tip a bit more. Not quite as much as if I were tipping wait staff at a sit down meal.
I really can't answer the poll here. :-[
My thoughts are that if a restauraunt is that good, I would never want to get any food from there "to go". That's what fast food joints are for. I go to a sit down place for the dining experience as much as the food.
I never could understand the seeming double standard in tipping ettiquette between businesses that are considered cheap (where you usually don't tip) versus ones that are pricier (where you usually do). Even with tipping the housekeeping at a motel/hotel this seems to exist.
 (ponders moving to Australia) I generally tip very well, at work and outside of work, but I am so tired of everyone EXPECTING a tip. It`s bad enough at work (Dj, floorman, housemom, bartender, bathroom mom, valet, i think thats everyone!?!) Then outside of work it`s crazy, even the drive throughs have tip cups displayed in the windows........... maybe i`m just pissed off because i went to the nail salon today and tiped alot.
Ok sorry i got distracted but to answer the original question: Yes i always tip, sometimes reluctantly, but i do it.
If im going to pick it up most of the time i will leave between $1-$3 (whatever change i have left over) for a tip, but i always tip when i get delivery ussualy about 10-15%
Always when I eat out. Very rarely for takeaway...why? Always for delivery.
without sonding like a fucktard...um.... why tip? in australia and nz we dont tip- usually waitressses in clubs get tips -guys cant be fucked taking their change etc. but i dont think i have ever tipped at a resturant.
if the bill is $95 or something, then yeah, ill leave them with the change, but i dont go out of my way to tip at all.
do resturant staff over there not get paid much of a base wage or something??
In America, staff usually get paid $3 or so... in Australia it's about $15... in America they also can get DEDUCTED pay because job employers ASSUME they get a tip...
But take-out? They get full wage.
I only tip when someone has gone out of their way or it's a comm. job.
Not when you're in a tipping job, no... min wage is STILL about $5 in America... and they don't even have to get that if it's considered a tipping job...
They can actually go into the negative on pay checks because in some states it's perfectly legal to take 20% off the money they would get paid because they assume they're getting 20% tips off each plate they serve...
As in... I serve $100 worth of food... $20 is taken off my pay check because the company assumes I got tipped.
You can LOSE money serving someone in America who doesn't tip.
So sad. :/
Minimum varies so much now. This site might help:

Woo.. my home state was raised to $7.50!!! Yay.. so much.
Fuck... minimum wage for a 20 year old here is like $18.
Stupid.
