The "Idea" of Ideal Beauty Revised? (Lots of Celeb Pics)
 Hi.
First, let me say that the following thread is not intended to offend anyone, but on the contrary, to inspire and encourage natural beauty amongst us in the spirit of self-acceptance. It is a commentary on the extreme lengths that some people are, and have been willing to go through for the sake of fulfulling this "average-by-comparison" society's half-assed definition of what "Beauty" should be (notice, I mentioned them being "average" themselves...).
I can relate to the desire to fit into the "Idea" of ideal beauty. And having run into several threads lately where ladies are discussing exactly this, when I ran into this article, I just felt I had to share with you all...
Kate Middleton (apparently, Prince William's girlfriend) was voted #1 in a British survey of natural beauties:

Charloette Church was second (and she is so not a zero & good for her!):

Natural seems to be the trend. Even Tara Reid is looking more "natural" lately. Notice - Before:

My point is that for all of us who have some type of physical insecurity, we are by far not the only ones. Even those who are perceived as being "Beautiful":
http://www.bc-enschede.nl/wenglish/g...y%20Spears.jpg http://img.jenniferlopez.net/jlo/pic...5_54.sized.jpg
undergo so much scrutiny that the illusion of Beauty is eventually deconstructed, many times, before our very eyes:
http://www.starblogs.net/archives/br...spears6684.jpg http://perezhilton.com/upload/2007/0...beforeeeeA.jpg
(P.S. I found it interesting that she shaved her head on Saturday, but on Monday, she went out wearing a wig. I guess that she wasn't even allowed to own her moment of defiance with all of the criticism focusing on the superficial / her hair / her looks.)

Re: The "Idea" of Ideal Beauty Revised? (Lots of Celeb Pics)
What is beauty? Beauty is who we are and how we are each unique. Some people lose themselves in the indescript quest for beauty (indescript, because no one single person can define beauty) :
For example, I always have found Lil' Kim to be naturally beautiful...
Before: http://www.coveralia.com/audio/l/Lil...or_Frontal.jpg
http://www.celebrityplasticpics.com/img/lilkim1.jpg
After:
http://www.celebrityplasticpics.com/img/lilkim2.jpg
When does this indescript quest end?
These procedures may look great, retouched with airbrush with the aid of the haziness of soft focus lenses:
http://www.ithaca.edu/students/breyn...el-jackson.jpg http://www.nbalife.com/images_rap/the_naked_truth.jpg
but in the real world, when people look at these individuals with the naked eye, they do not see a glowy image of pseudo-perfection.
What they capture is the extent of the insecurity which the person must have suffered to lead them to deny themselves of being who they are. This suffering becoming a self-hatred leading to mutilation. The face-to-face results of this encounter with "Beauty" leave scars which often leave us feeling as self-conscious as before we had the (fill-in-the-blank) procedure done. Furthermore, sometimes further alienating us from the same society which we desire to be accepted by.

These are the potential consequences of an extreme lack of self-acceptance:

Beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. We need to love ourselves, because the smartest, sexiest, most stacked, most interesting AND most beautiful individual to walk this earth will not be considered to be attractive by others IF THEY DO NOT LOVE THEMSELVES (perhaps this is what Ms. Spears' is publically dealing with).
Again, this is meant as no offense to anyone, but simply as an eye-opener of sorts. This is my response to the threads relating to body image and self-perception.
Thanx for reading and I appreciate your comments.
Hope this helps xX

I appreciate your appreciative comments Austinatalie & Innocense. :flirt:
This is why we come to SW though, right? For encouragement and support of each other?
I am just so tired of watching girls measuring themselves up to each other, browbeating each other and trying to become a fantasy that doesn't exist.
Related >> I read recently that porn stars are not all that excited about the HDTV revolution, despite the fact that it will bring in huge revenues for the industry. And can you imagine why?
Because these people (mostly women), many of whom have undergone procedures for the sake of being camera receptive and can be so well put together, are concerned about every imperect, albeit human, detail of themselves being displayed on flat-screen.
Could you imagine? Even the most "flawless" of individuals worrying about something. There was this porn star who was on tv not too long ago for getting her toes liposuctioned!
No one will be thinking, "Man she got fat toes" unless she walks around saying, "Man, I got fat toes". And if by chance they do, then, she should ask them what makes them so perfect.
Last time i checked, nobody is.
People just don't have anything better to do than point out others' flaws.
And by the way, when did it become a mortal sin to have imperfections?
When did it become so unattractive to be human :-[ ? How will we teach our children to be secure and confident in themselves in a world that hates confidence and economically thrives on insecurity?
We have really gotta do better than this.

It got me all teary eyed as I watched it :'( . It made me realized that as I type, there are young girls, women, BOYS & MEN (yep, that's right) starving themselves, "going under the knife", putting their health at risk to become a product that is going to be altered anyway.
In the video, they don't start with a schlup - They start with a model, and even she is not good enough as she is (enter the neck stretcher a.k.a. photoshop; LoL).
I would be really ticked if I put myself through procedures (etc.) for them to alter my image anyway. I read that Kate Winslet was infuriated when they airbrushed her image for GQ (< I think it was GQ). She went on the record as saying that the image was airbrushed and she had curves. Her reason: So that girls don't get the wrong idea of beauty.
If you ask me, That's beautiful. ;)
Re: The "Idea" of Ideal Beauty Revised? (Lots of Celeb Pics)
a lot of times it seems like in this industry and in the sex-positive world as a whole it's hard to stay positive about it because if you're not a skinny busty blonde you fall short. plus if you're white you're all right, if you're brown stick around, if you're black get back.
Re: The "Idea" of Ideal Beauty Revised? (Lots of Celeb Pics)
The Tara Reid thing perplexes me. In the first picture, it's her in a bad dress. In the second, it's just her at the pool. I don't see the difference.
Aside from that, good post. :) Just a reminder that "beauty" in the media can mess with people's heads.

Unfortunately LilSweetVixen, that can be true at times.
However, this is a new generation. And although it may be true that some bring their dwarved mentalities and prejudices, I think in terms of acceptance, we all have come a long way.
For example: We may each encounter our own versions of the "Confederate flag hat" wearing, snuff chewing biggot, who may trash a brown or black girl because of his own insecurities...
Check below the belt though and one can realize why he is so insecure -
Because he is enjoying the show more than he'd like to admit and this clashes with what he thinks he believes ;) ...

She had huge implants improperly put in, and was getting bashed every which way she looked (which was not helped by her behavior in public, unintentional or not).
She has since then had corrective reduction and looks more "natural," which was a subtopic of the thread, "The 'Idea' of Ideal Beauty Revised?".

Which was exactly the thought that inspired this thread.
I mean, when Pam Anderson debuted in the 90's, the standard of beauty dictated that if you are in the business of entertaining, you should be willing to put your body through modification - Because just like Pam wasn't good enough as she was, neither were we (supposedly). This has lead to everyone and their mother to get something "done".
Now, the same industry who has been telling women "change yourself if you wanna sell yourself" and "bigger is better" seems to be hinting at, "Sorry, but we are looking for a more 'natural' look..."and "IF you wanna get 'IN,' you've gotta look like a wilting stick."
The point of the post is that if one embraces themselves as they are, people will have to either take you or leave you. And although it sets the stage for rejection, when one is accepted, it is a truer form of acceptance than one attained by the altering of ones' self to fit a non-existent mold that is fickle, ever-changing, ambiguous and eventually spits out its victims leaving them with no sense of "self".
Not to mention, one is admired for maintaining that sense of "self" which defines an individual. ;)

Man, everyone's angry angry angry. See PETA thread. Sheeeeesh>:( She took time and energy to put these posts up and be positive, what you said is like assuming she is racist--wtf and not the point.
And P.S. anyone who asks themselves "What is America's ideal of beauty"?--what answer comes to your mind? Sad but true, and her posts represented a lot of ppl for such few pics---bald, black, curvy, etc. go spout somewhere else.

Hmmm, thanks for pointing that out Alaska...
Well MiaB, if you are assuming that I am racist, then allow me to inform you that you have just made an :dunce: of yourself because you don't know me :teacher: (taken to school) ;
UNLESS, however,
your comment was obtuse for a reason other than your intending being outright rude not only to me, but to the other posters as well.

Haha forreal!
This is meant as a positive post. Just goes to show natural vs. altered, not black vs. white...
