it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
ok, so I love love love weddings. And I'm always searching for the perfect dress.
I found it. it's so beautiful!!!! I love it. I must be crazy, thinking about buying a wedding gown without any serious prospects.....
has ayone ever done that? Bout something they knew they'd need someday, but not for a long time?
it's so lovely, I have the money, and I wan't it!!! But I know this is a crazy idea.... right?
but it's amazing, exactly what looks great on me, from the trumpet hem to the belted waist, and the lace top is so pretty, and still modest.

Re: it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
It is beautiful, but I wouldnt buy it. You never know what will happen. What if you meet the love of your life and elope? What if you and your future hubby decide on a beach wedding? What if you happen to get pregant and then decide to mary him while your 8 months pregnant?
You just never know what can happen. I wanted to buy a dress I found years ago, and Im glad I didnt. My guy doesnt want a big, fancy dressy wedding. He wants to get married at a small chapel here in vegas, wearing nice dress pants and a tie, and he wants me to wear a simple white summer dress. That's fine with me to. I decided what I wear isnt as important as the actual wedding and beign married to him.

Re: it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
^ My main concern would be scaring away the guys... I wouldn't date someone if she had her dream wedding dress in her closet!! It just screams, "I want a commitment and I've already planned it and you have nothing to say about it."
o.o

So nice! I wish I had bought my dream dress when it was still being made, wedding or not. :'(

Yeah, I agree with you. I hadn't thought of that. I guess if you did have it in your closet, it would not be somehting you would ever, ever share with anyone. Even if you met the guy and got engaged to him, I bet it would freak him out to know you've had the dress ready and waiting for years.

Re: it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
I'd keep it secret!
I'd probably actually not even keep it in my house after awhile. I'd keep it in my old room at my parents.
and I will definatly have a big wedding.... my family are kindof 'society people" and nothing less would be acceptable.

Ahhh just to add, and I hope no one minds... this was my dream dress...

I'd have to.... I cant find it anywhere now, and I never did find a pic of the front of it :(

Re: it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
Geezus paige... that's gonna cost an arm and a leg to get made... I'd say a good 6-8 grand at best. The amounts of hand beading... wow... nice dress though. :D
-
Re: it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
hand beading isn't that hard to do, just time consuming. most good alterationists charge 30+ an hour for that type of thing.... thus costly!
I'd say get the dress made simply, and do the beading yourself. but practice/read up on it first!

Re: it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
I have an ex whose mom makes wedding gowns, but they're very.... funky. If I didn't hate her son with all of my very soul, I'd ask her to make it, but its not her style....

Well yeah.. that's what I meant. I sew too. I used to own a business and I just opened shop again... a burlesque girl wanted me to make her costume and I saw the hand-beading and went... 'uh.. that'll be $300 more...'

Re: it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
its a simple dress though, mermaid design, the only thing very intricate is the lil jacket thing, and that couldnt be too hard to find... i honestly dont think you'll have a problem finding it in the future... its not a couture kind of fad dress, its sortof more traditional...

Re: it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
crazy is the word, girl.
i do a fair bit modelling for a bridal coutourier here, and she won't let girls *have* their dress until 2 weeks before. she won't let girls even start dreaming it up beyond 8 months.
just keep the picture, then take it to someone when the time comes. you'll be amazed at how quickly your ideas and tastes change. you can trust a designer on that... nothing worse than importing all that fabric just to have someone change their mind 3 months before.
once a customer had a gown made early with another designer, then ended up coming to this lady in desperation 1 month before the wedding because she *hated* the one she'd chosen earlier.
you could end up with an expensive wardrobe full of couldabeens.
my 2 cents.;)

Re: it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
Dont buy it, just keep the pictures and when you need a dress get one made like it - if you still like it and havent found something else you like better (-:
Buying it now to me seems a bit crazy and almost like a bad luck thing / tempting fate. It may spoil the fun a bit too when you do get engaged.

Re: it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
Hell, I'd buy it. If you're just going to hide it at your parents, what's the harm? Even if you decide to not wear it for your real wedding, you can have fun with it now.
I know if I make it to a St. Pucci sample sale and they've got my dress... its mine! Maybe I'll take it to Vegas and get married and annulled a couple times (a la Britney Spears) just so I can have pretty wedding pictures! ;) (NO! I'm not that crazy.)

Tuxedos are great. Cumberbunds.......... Formal or floral?

Re: it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
Uhhhh. still debating....
my biggest worry, and the reason I'll most likely not get it is that I could change sizes....even though that would suck I don't wanna gain weight!
-
Re: it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
DO. NOT. BUY. IT.
OMG...do not!
-
Re: it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
Oh, I'm aware of the clothing line itself... Demetrios is a rather well known designer of wedding apparel. But THAT dress is no longer in production, that I can find.

Re: it's perfect! I want it! the perfect wedding dress!
Yeah, much better to start a virtual wedding dress scrapbook (still not something you'd want to share with any future boyfriends, but eh, pretty normal and certainly harmless). Get detailed pictures of the front/ back, designer name, etc. Then save it to a file named something bland like "Anatomy 202: Inner Functions of the Human Gallbladder" / "Tax Returns 97-98" or something else no one wants to read.

I love love love this idea!!!
At one time, I did have a wedding planning book, but I got rid of it when I was living with a BF (and someone I considered a serious wedding prospect..... but luckily I got that idea out of my head quick!)
