Fetishes - The Documentary
I've been meaning to watch this for years, but I'm finally watching it tonight. It's informative and interesting, although I remember now that I never much cared for Nick Broomfield's documentary style and several of his questions are rather asinine. He won't do a session for himself, and I agree with the head mistress at this particular dungeon that he really has no business making a documentary about this subject when he has no firsthand experience of it. It's interesting though.
And some of it is quite hot. There are two scenes involving female subs that really got me going... I wanna call and book a session with a real mistress now.

I am so on my way over.
Re: Fetishes - The Documentary
That would be the ultimate fetish experience for me, Paige, you have no idea! ;)
Re: Fetishes - The Documentary
So the movie just ended... huh. A little disappointing. It scrapes the surface, but there is absolutely no mention of male doms and Broomfield as the filmmaker/narrator keeps himself very removed from the subject. He never does a session himself, and the tone of the entire movie is a tad condescending, like, "Let's see what these weirdos do and wonder why on earth they do it." He asks the same domme several times how she thinks being a dominatrix has affected her relationships. He remarks that several things are "surprising" when I didn't find them to be surprising at all.
It kind of reminded me of all the researchers and students who come into this forum wanting to analyze those weird freaky strippers, when none of them are willing to try it on themselves or accept a straight answer that doesn't fit their preconceived notions.
It was an interesting documentary and I picked up several techniques and ideas for things to try at the dungeon, but I think this movie could've been so much better in the hands of a better filmmaker than Nick Broomfield (which is to say, anybody).

Was this the one focusing on Pandora's Box in NYC? I saw it yeaaaaars ago, long before I got heavily into anything kinky. I remember liking it AT THE TIME, but bet I would have some of the same criticisms you have now.
Edit: Okay, actually checked the link (duh). Yes, it is the Pandora's Box one.

Future project for you maybe? :)
I hate the whole "there must be someting wrong with you" approach also. Well who doesnt?!!
Re: Fetishes - The Documentary
I love documentaries but I'm too much of a control freak to make them myself. Something to suggest to a couple of the documentarians that I know, though. I'd like to see a documentary on BDSM that actually addresses the nature of sexual power play in daily life, and the complete catharsis that comes through roleplay and domination.
Re: Fetishes - The Documentary
Have any of you ever done dom on a guy before at the club?
Re: Fetishes - The Documentary
If Yek makes one, I wanna be in it.
As for Pandora's Box.... not I. I've rented out room at Labyrinth... and Nutcracker Suite. Otherwise I was always independent... never a house Mistress.
Re: Fetishes - The Documentary
Come to think of it, did Princess Spider make a documentary? I enjoyed her book anyway. has anyone ever seen any of her tv stuff? I really live in the wrong country sometimes...

THANK YOU! Yes, me too! The more I think back on it, especially from what I know now, a whopping ten years later, it seems like the pitch had to be based on: Broomfield - "Hey, it'll pack the theaters 'cause it's a sex-filled freakshow." Studio Head - Cartoon money bags dance over his head, dollar signs replace his pupils.
Re: Fetishes - The Documentary
Hey yek I just recently saw the noutrious betty paige its a GREAT movie. Its not exactly the same type of movie you are talking about here but it sounds like you might find it very intresting.
Re: Fetishes - The Documentary
Hey, if you do a documentary to replace his Yek, you know I'll be there discussing how I love hair so much and I cry when it's cut... and oh god, my terrible life as a trichophiliac!!!
