Have you ever called a radio talk show?
I've done this only once, and it was one of the computer shows. I had a question about some specific software.
I can't see calling the political shows. People are put on hold and the hosts just talk over them. This is true even with a number of callers who agree with the hosts, so what's the point?
Re: Have you ever called a radio talk show?
I used to call the "drive time" radio shows, but I've never called in to talk radio shows.
You are so right about the political call in shows. What's the point? Especially if you have a valid argument with the host, he/she won't let you speak your mind and/or present your evidence. Those guys are way to egotistical to be willing to have their mind changed on air.::)
Oh, and forget about calling in to Dr. Laura or Love Line. With Dr. Laura it is "Just shut up and do what I say" and with Love Line it is "So you were molested/abused by your parents." No matter what your topic or subject is:P.
Re: Have you ever called a radio talk show?
Called twice (once a local NPR station, once a local drive-time zoo). But I've been an on-air guest a dozen or more times. (Has a face for radio, as the saying goes).
Re: Have you ever called a radio talk show?
^^^ same here, that I have been an on-air guest quite a few times. I've also called in to a couple of local drive-time political talk shows.
Re: Have you ever called a radio talk show?
Not for years now, but I have several times. Mostly on community radio though - they actually let you say your piece (-:
Re: Have you ever called a radio talk show?
I called Dr. Laura once. She was rude and interrupted me before I could even ask the question. Oh well, I still think she's spot-on at least 90% of the time, and I listen to her show if I'm in the car between 12-3 on a weekday.
Re: Have you ever called a radio talk show?
I've called in to some morning shows here, but nothing exciting. One of them was about revenge and I called in to tell some stupid story me and my friends did to a guy who spread rumors about me. (I was young and stupid and cared about stuff like that). We sandpapered his brand new Z28 to the primer from the back quarter panel, all the way to the front. Then we also peed in a snapple bottle and poured it onto his door handles.
Re: Have you ever called a radio talk show?
Political talk radio is largely endless hours of thinnly-veilled hate speech primarily provided for the entertainment of whatever "sheep" happen to be in lockstep agreement with the host's ignoramous viewpoints. Educating the public, or providing a forum for debate was never the point. Granted, the hosts are by and large conservative, but regardless of the host's political slantings, damned near all of them are egotistical asshats who think their little program is changing the world. Art Bell is one of the few whom I've ever enjoyed, partly because he's half nuts.
My thoughts are that people who have time to listen to these shows, much less call into them are in serious need of a second job, or at least a constructive hobby.
Re: Have you ever called a radio talk show?
^^^ I disagree. I always listen to in my car and I wouldn't apply your characterization to most of their hosts. They do carry Rush Limbaugh, who does fit your description, but Bill Handel and John Zeigler don't. You might think that of John & Ken, but I agree with them so I don't care, LOL!
There's good talk radio out there. It just gets lost in the sea of mediocrity that surrounds it.

Oh Crap! I've already got 4 jobs, now what??
Yeah, am loving on Coast to coast am. I got pissed when my local radio station cut off the first hour in favor with a closed minded republican talk show host. He's on the air like 15 hours a day, gimme some Art Bell, already!!
