Beautiful Black Exotic Dancers...Lets keep it Gully (real)
ETA: For those of you out that emitted a groan of "Awww, not again" I apologize for the problems that I may have encountered due to ignorance. The horse isn't dead yet, so I'll continue to beat it. Remember, if you don't stand for something you fall for anything. My stance on this continuous debate is one of enlightment and encouragement. I won't stand around and ignore the issues, and some women tend to be selfish, because honey for everything you HAVEN"T encountered their are 10 who have. Although I don't deal with direct racisim everyday of my life, many of your own sisters and brothers have. You can't change your race, but you can change your mind. I'm proud of my race, and suggesting that I work around it doesn't make sense to me.... I'll just do my part and be a woman about it by doing my part to educate others. If you can't feel my position you need not apply.
I feel like rallying the troops once again in a different fashion. Ladies lets rant and rave about all things being a black dancer. This is in NO way a means of excluding our beautiful salt sisters...but honey pepper is pissed! Again I'm adament that this isn't meant to patronize our melanin deficient sisters, them my bitches too, but I feel like their is so much unsaid, we need a serious meeting of the minds. And for the lurkers out there, please take these posts in all seriousness.
A setback is a setup for a comeback, but we can't comeback if ignorant hussies sitting back.
Sign yo ass up, and lets get this stripper revolution poppin! We have walking in our blood, don't piss me off, a sistuh will march in her stilettos all through the capital:O Seriously though, we can't change shit overnight, but we gotta keep it real and speak on the issues in our community of dancers. Alot of issues aren't black and white. It's me vs you, dark vs light, "good" hair vs "bad", skinny vs thick, yo daddy gave you hazel eyes vs my dark browns, phat ass vs noassatall. You feel me. We can't expect for others to love us and see the regal queen spirits that course through our veins if we don't love ourselves. It ain't easy being on this side of brown, but people will treat you the way you teach them how to treat you. On a whole, I'm impressed with ebony entertainers, Remember you heard it here first. I'm proud, yep, I said it. Proud to be a black dancer. I'm tired of seeing black performers being taken lightly. I don't know what rock the rest of the nation been under ( referring to custies, clubowners) but their is some MAJOR TALENT in black clubs. But alas, that talent has been made a mockery of on BET UNCUT
( well..they're cancelled but u know what I mean) we're made light of like booboo da fool on every lame ass video. When in reality the pussy poppin, booty shakin gyrating pulsating thunderous applause ladies are TALENTED!! Often imitated but often never duplicated it takes muscle, let me repeat muscle, let me reiterate MUSCLE!!
GYM+RUNNING-ONE LESS CHICKEN WING= "Gotta Mind of It's Own ASS
Hahahaha, you don't know how many countless chicks I meet that think they can dance cause they have a fat ass!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....;D
So this brings me to the original intent of this thread. Sistuhs, let's get a dialogue going. Bring your rants, bring your raves, bring your ideas. The only rule is to Keep It Gully.

I can't tell you how much I needed that right now!

Re: Beautiful Black Exotic Dancers...Lets keep it Gully (real)
Layka you are too amazing. Funny and inspiring.
Anyway, I'm one of those dancers who work in the constantly maligned black/hip-hop/ethinc/whatever you want to call it club. It's the antithesis of the holy grail upscale club most long for. At best it's fun and lively...at worst it's boring. I don't fear for my safety (we have great fucking security that won't just stand around while guys fuck with the dancers) and it's not a brothel either.
It's rap mixed with R&B and a bit of pop in the early evenings. I love it. I listen to all kinds of music on my down time but when I get on the stage and the beat drops (smile) I'm just full of energy.
I don't mind working up a sweat while the crowd is enjoying the music and sometimes getting up to dance along by the stage (as long as they are tipping lol). I like those nights when I slack off from asking for dances yet I still make the same amount or more from the dope boys who love to make it rain.
There are dancers at my club that don't even have to do anything but walk around because once the dj plays the current club hit the guys start throwing money regardless of who is on stage and what she is doing, so we don't always work hard for the money.
I can dance to all kinds of music, I do it at home and I have done it on stage at the first club I worked at. But I know what I love to dance to.

Re: Beautiful Black Exotic Dancers...Lets keep it Gully (real)
Oh yeah- I know people love to call our booty shaking tacky and ghetto, but...it's funny how so many else like to do it too in clubs(strip/nightclubs) across the US. I guess it's only those things depending on who is doing it and where they are doing it.;D

Re: Beautiful Black Exotic Dancers...Lets keep it Gully (real)
^Sorry to bust my white ass in on your thread :P Just a little comment on the booty shaking, since ya brought it up. I think it's fine in moderation - totally unattractive to me personally, but whatever. I do however, find it boring at best when it's ALLL a girl does on stage and I don't give a rat's ass what her skin color is. I have worked with chics who do NOTHING but ass-shake on stage, and well, it's just fucken boring. *yawn* Anyway, back to your regularly scheduled rant ;D

Re: Beautiful Black Exotic Dancers...Lets keep it Gully (real)
You know I went to Penthouse Executive Club about a month ago with friends to check it out and there was a white girl on stage clapping and poppin' her ass. Granted she had a little cute booty but I was in awe as were most of the guys in the club watching her. The girls I was with said that if a black girl did that she would look ghetto (whatever that means) but some girls do tend to over do it. This is a top notch classy upscale club so I didn't expect to see it. When she got of stage guys were all askin for a dance. It was interesting to see something that people consider 'ghetto' is a crowd pleaser.

Re: Beautiful Black Exotic Dancers...Lets keep it Gully (real)
One rant is when custies see my hair they ask if it's a weave. Then they say they don't know why black girls weave their hair. Then I point out all the non black girls (white latino and asian) who all have extensions. In the clubs I work in that like 50%. They feel so stupid. I tell them if they were wearing a tupee it would be rude to say 'hey is that rat on your head real?' I keep my weaves tight so it looks real but I hate when people ask that question.
Even worse I had when they try to run their fingers thru my hair. Don't touch the 'do!!
-
Re: Beautiful Black Exotic Dancers...Lets keep it Gully (real)
i've often found the booty-shaking and ass-clapping is a crowd pleaser in some clubs precisely because it's a white girl's ass doing it. sort of like how some people seriously think cornrows were invented by bo derek (blond white early 80s actress).
without getting too much into a vent/tirade, i just wish the definition of 'black' were more broad among both black and non-black folks. it is saddening to see black people also buy into the idea that talking and often behaving any way other than a very narrow and specific way is 'white'. i used to sometimes get so exasperated and said i was as black as anyone, just weird, because black people can be weird too, dammit.
but anyway, i have to finish packing, so i will not comment further for the nonce.
-
Re: Beautiful Black Exotic Dancers...Lets keep it Gully (real)
Um, I get asked alllllllllll the time if my hair is all mine, and when I tell them it is (it IS dammit) I am met with disbelief. (that HAS to be extensions! ::)) By all kinds of people. So the sistas aren't the only ones dealing with that one.
Ok sorry I will stop butting now :P

Re: Beautiful Black Exotic Dancers...Lets keep it Gully (real)
"Why do black girls weave their hair?"
Oh God. My question back is "Would you like my hair to be extremely dry like hay to get my natural hair THIS color AND this straight?!
Weaves are versatile, you can have the cool color or type of hair you want without damaging your still just as good natural hair. We can't play around with our hair, naturally it is just more dry than caucasian hair and even more so when you chemcially process it (color, chemical relaxer, etc.)

I said it before and I won't repeat myself after I say this..... This thread is in no way shape or form meant to exclude my saltshaker sisuth's, but trust me, alot of us on here need to hear encouragement from other women of color. I recieved it so I will continue to pay it forward. Now, back to the matter at hand. ::) Of course YOU feel like it's fine in moderation. Girl, I feel the same way. BUT, what others on the outside lookin in may not really comprehend is that the gentlemen are the ones that we're ultimately aiming to please.
I'm not exactly fond of doing the style myself, BUT I noticed that in a predominately "urban" club these guys are expecting the pussy poppin. And when it boils down to it, when homegirl on stage comes down from her set with an immense amount of bills just by jiggling that ass around it's a tough act to follow with a sultry set. Sure, it can be done. I was fortunate enough to have a background in dance so I don't feel intimidated, but when I compare the amount I can make just by giving them what they want
( which can be a lifesaver by requiring less thought) versus doing some shit they won't be able to appreciate ( hence my pockets won't either) I'll settle for working smarter than harder anyday. Although it depends on the crowd, and the crowd I'm referring to are the guys that can quote jeezy and lil wayne like the bible.

You know what... I hate that shit too! I don't understand why people think having a weave means I'm ghetto, bald, or less than thou! Damnit I wear my weave for reasoms beyond what's normally acknowledged. I wear it to protect my ends, to keep dye and chemicals out my hair, etc. My hair is shoulder length but random dudes running their grubbing fingers through my hair will NOT be a privelege that I will bestow upon them. Everytime I wear my real hair people want to touch it, ask stupid ass questions like, "Are you mixed". WTF!!!!! Since when has having long meant "being mixed". I hate when ignorant people get shit twisted.

Re: Beautiful Black Exotic Dancers...Lets keep it Gully (real)
OMG Layka you are hilarious. I'm really laughing out loud.
Like some of the other dancers posting here I work at black clubs and the only thing that gets me is that it is HARD WORK. All the booty poppin and hard dancing is not only for the stage but that's how table dances are done too (I'm in Atlanta). There is no sitting down for the dancers and on busy nights you are literally hoppin and booty poppin from one customer to the next. The environment is so exciting though, I won't even lie. I've done the white club thing, the two-step and what not, and it's just not for me. Throw on some Jeezy, Gucci Mane (who was actually in the club last weekend), and I'm already popping my ass just because I like the music. Or when guys make it rain on stage just because they like the song. As old and played out as "Ballin" is it STILL makes the guys want to throw money in the air... you can't beat that with a stick!

:rotfl: :rotfl:
Girl you ain't even lying. I must admit that when the crazy crunk club bangers come on I start dancing all by my damnself. Then I have to remind myself to chill cause "dude" watchin fo free, lol. But working at an urban club is hard ass work!! Keep your head up mommies, I acknowledge the work some of us put in, and it ain't simple. Guys want us to work extra phuckin hard! They really don't get sultry, hell, come to think of it they probably already get that at home. These guys come out to see shit their girls can't do.
"Often imitated, but never successfully duplicated"
Guys anticipate the antics they see on the videos. But that's a double edged sword because if they ain't tippin like they do in the videos that can be a headache:P

Re: Beautiful Black Exotic Dancers...Lets keep it Gully (real)
I can't stand not being versatile. I learned how to do the slow, sexy, come-fuck-me-cuz-I-look-like-I'm-high-like-Darryl-Hannah-in-Dancing-at-The-Blue-Lagoon shit...
and I can shake my ass (maybe not as extensively as some, but I fuckin work it). I don't claim to have all the moves or whatever, but I'm proud of my crossing over abilities. This has gotten me the "shower" you talk about and I love it! I just have to avoid doing anything complicated on my feet afterwards so I don't slide around on the bills. *sigh* Life is hard.
When I see a fine as hell black dancer on stage who KNOWS what to do, and some jealous pole humper talks shit, you better believe I applaud the black girl. Hell, I might even tip her myself if she and I are cool. I love me some ass shakin'...and some cocoa skin.
</end ebony appreciation post from weird white girl>

Re: Beautiful Black Exotic Dancers...Lets keep it Gully (real)
So, I've tried like 10000000x to learn to do all that botty stuff, and i just cant :(
and i've got a booty, it's posted in the booty pic thread, and i'm proud of it. but it's pretty firm, could that be part of not being able to clap and bounce and all that?
so. that's my contribution to this thread. I admire the skill it takes to do the booty shake stuff.
-
Re: Beautiful Black Exotic Dancers...Lets keep it Gully (real)
I get asked a lot to bounce my ass about... I can, a lil... and (depending on the song) I will every now and then.... but I have to agree on the Not For The Entire Song thing....

Re: Beautiful Black Exotic Dancers...Lets keep it Gully (real)
OMG Layka, I love you....
I have to admit, I wanted to pick the most gorgeous dancer to give my best friend her first lapdance last Sunday, and the girl was a lovely black woman. Add to that at the end of the night, my remaining $20 in $1s all went to another lovely, entertaining as hell black woman all at once! I couldn't help it, she was awesome! No offense to the other lovely white ladies as being one myself, but anytime I'm a customer my money is like vaccuumed out of my pocket by black dancers ;D

Oh, hell yes. I will freely admit to pandering to my audience -- being cool doesn't pay any of our bills.
I would like to share an amusing thing that happened to me in Philly last summer; there was a young black dude at my rack, I turned around and, you know, bounced my ass, flexed it, etc, and he says "Whoah! I wasn't expecting that." It was like my ass had been profiled.
<<< it's very pale but healthy.
