It's never to early to start spring cleaning :)
I'm beginning my spring cleaning, and I just thought I'd make a thread about it, in hopes of inspiring others to do the same!
I begin by evaluating everything I own. I start in my closet, then go to the bathroom, then the kitchen and common areas, an lastly, the garage/storage shed. I donate or give away a TON of things!
Closet:
Any clothing item I haven't worn in 1 year automaticly goes, unless it's a special exception (like a very formal dress).
Then, (once it's warm enough) I pack up all my winter wear, and take out my summer clothing that's been boxed up for months.
Then I evaluate the things I've kept so far. Do I see myself wearing it in the next year? Does it still fit? Is it in need of repair? Do I still like it? The things I no longer wish to keep go to a woman's shelter or resource center, and anything in need of repair goes to the alterationist.
Then I go through my underthings, and do the same thing. Socks without a mate go goodbye (I give them to a friend who teaches pre-school :)). Bras get worn out fast as well.
Then I do the same thing for my shoes and bags, my linens (It's nice to get new sheets and towels once a year or so), and my jewelry.
Next I go through my books. Do I see mysepf loaning or reading these again? If not, off to the library they go.
The Bathroom:
I accumulate toilotries like no one else, it seems. I buy shampoo/conditioner and lotion whenever it's on sale, and lots. I don't need it all, so I Send this off to the woman's shelter as well, and the same for any makeup that doesn't work for me (like a foundation that doesn't match my skin tone or an eyeshadow I have two of). Better to get rid of it then to let it go bad. We all have products you've only used a few times, and the people at the shelter are glad to have them. It's also nice to have the tile regrouted if needed and the roompainted, if necessary. And make sure you change your shower curtain!
And now you have room for more!^ lol. :)
The Kitchen is always a huge project. I go through my pantrys and refrigerators, and anything expired goes. Then I take stock of what we have and organize. I donate any canned goods I don't see myself using in the next 2 months. And I take stock of my cook wear, dishes, glasswear and storage containers. I usually need new storage containers, so the ones with both a top and bottom get a new home, and the ones without a mate get recycled (they are plastic!) I also may replace my dishes if the set is missing to many pieces, and I may replace a few pieces of cookery.
For the common areas (living, dinning, recroom and porch) not much needs to be done by me. All our slipcovers go to the cleaners, I get a carpet cleaning company to come and do the floors, the poarch gets a good scrubbing and the floor is painted, the celing fans get done, and all the windows in the house and the house itself, are pressure cleaned. We may hire a painter if needed. We also get a chimney sweep to clean the fireplace.
The garage/storage room is quite a project. Mostly it's sorting and donating, then the whole thing gets cleaned.
and then, when all this is done, rejoice in a clean home, and spend a day (or a weekend!) at the spa :)

I would like to offer sexual services in order to have Lola come do those for me. I have a TINY apartment! It wouldnt be too hard. You dont have to use a condom!

Re: It's never to early to start spring cleaning :)
hah! I do the organizing and donating myself, but I hire people to do the heavy duty things.
Lola is available for consultations, to do list making, inspiration and for help screaning and hiring help. Available for free to any hot, nude SWers :)

Re: It's never to early to start spring cleaning :)
I beat you to it. I finished my huge enormous spring clean last week.
I've got stuff in storage, heaps of crap that I threw out, stuff in the garage that I can sell eventually (and/or give away), had the carpets cleaned, had the pest control come in to treat for fleas and bed bugs (the only pests that we have here)....
I'm re-joicing that I have uncluttered and made some space in this unit! ;D
Due to the spring clean I can now hoop inside in the dining area (as nothing is there currently)... as well as use that area to practice within (dancing etc).
I've attached photos of the stuff I'm going to try to sell ... when I find the time to have a proper garage sale and then give away (donate) if I can't sell it before this month is out.
It was exhausting and expensive yet OH SO WORTH IT ;D
Yes even the bicycle is for sale.

Re: It's never to early to start spring cleaning :)
oh my my.. i wish my cleaning was as simple as your LR. not only have i not fully unpacked when i moved here (i have one room filled with boxes and the whole basement- while now flooded- has boxes- albeit soggy ones- that need unpacking), and as for my room in my parents' house.. oh god. i will take a picture when i ACTUALLY get there to clean and post. apparently when i was in college my dad photographed my room there and sent it in and won 2nd place in world's messiest room contest! ha! he got free film developing and free film for a year. he said thanks for the investment pay out but dammit clean my room. and they still bug me abotu it. i should really do that, but im too damn lazy hahaha. my house first, their's second. they dont need the room anyways...

Re: It's never to early to start spring cleaning :)
I'm feeling rather under-achievery today. Perhaps I'll have time for spring cleaning during my spring break. No, wait, working every day. Feck. LR, what do I have to do convince you to clean for me?
-
Re: It's never to early to start spring cleaning :)
can i go on that list for you to do my apt too? ;) i wish i could get that motivated! i'll start and never finish.
-
Re: It's never to early to start spring cleaning :)
The waiting list is long, I'm afraid...
I suggest you look at your neighborhood craigslists. That's how I found Laura :)

Re: It's never to early to start spring cleaning :)
Well Lola, you certainly inspired me to do a spring clean! I just loaded up the back of my pick-up truck with stuff for the Goodwill! I am sure I can find another truckload when I return! It feels good to de-clutter!

Re: It's never to early to start spring cleaning :)
Thanks for the wonderful spring cleaning guide! Luckily, I haven't accumulated too much stuff since last year (lost almost everything in my last break-up), but I still have to do an inventory and get rid of some stuff.
I'm gonna look this thread back up in April when I'm preparing for my move to California!

Re: It's never to early to start spring cleaning :)
If I spring clean now, what will I do for Passover?!
Lol, Pesach/spring cleaning is one in the same to me.

Re: It's never to early to start spring cleaning :)
I cannot be that excited about cleaning!! Thanks for trying tho!
-
Re: It's never to early to start spring cleaning :)
I'm glad I spread some inspiration :)

Re: It's never to early to start spring cleaning :)
I want to spring clean but I'm nervous. Hell, I made a thread a couple months ago about how I am a hoarder, an it's hard for me to throw things away.
Lately I've been thinking about throwing away ALL my clothes and shoes (ok not all but everything up unto a year old, goes inthe trash) and then buy all new stuff. I'd also like to splurge on some real kitchen pots/pans. Not the handmedowns my aunt gave me when I first moved into my apartment.
Sheesh, I wish I didn't like to hold onto everything. Maybe I should just pay someone to come in and do this for me..and then I cant' cry over spilled milk...

Lola, with your list I'm curious: exactly how long would it take you to fully spring clean your place?
