Re: help me name my kitty!
Put the crate in a quiet room, like the bedroom, and just leave him alone. He will come out when he's ready and will probably hide under the bed for awhile. When he's feelin brave enough, he will slowly come out and explore. I know your happy and excited to play with your new baby, but he needs time to adjust. New place to explore, new hiding places to find, new smells to discover.
I like Licorice. Congrats on your new kitty!
Re: help me name my kitty!
Almost always, my cats names have just come to me. I'd be talking with them and call them a name, and then I would realize that that was their name. Beware of doing this with strays; once they have a name, they are members of your family;D .
But if a name does not come to you, 2,000 cat names can be found by clicking here: http://www.petrix.com/catnames/

Not lame. My cats are Peanut and Butter. If I ever get another pet, it will naturally be called Jelly, and then I'll have a complete meal :)

Re: help me name my kitty!
If he has white on all of his paws what about Socks....lol
Re: help me name my kitty!
I love the name Licorice! We've had a succession of black and white animals as well as some all black.
My kitty who died recently was black and white and his name was Backgammon. We also had 8-Ball.
My all black rabbit was Nightmare and we found an all black kitten and named it Goblin (Gobby for short) before we found him a home.
Re: help me name my kitty!
Name him Domino--cuz he's black with little white paws!
Re: help me name my kitty!
I had a fat all white cat once and her name was Charmin Doubleroll. Yeah...my pets get wierd names. My calico was named supercalifragilisciousexpealidocious. Called her Super.
So does the kitty havea name yet? Did you decide?
Re: help me name my kitty!
i havent picked one yet.. now he wont come out from under my bed! im getting ready to go get my nails done and when im gone, and when im at work tonight, im gonna leave my bedroom door shut because if he hides in my apartment somewhere i'll never find him.
im leaning towards toby or midori though :P or maybe boo.. i dont know haha!
Re: help me name my kitty!
since he's tiny, shy, and cute,
why don't you name him something hyper masculine like Thor or Genghis, Conan, Olav, Maximus, Svaros or Hercules
i think itd be a cute lil irony
Re: help me name my kitty!
Yeah I am fond of the historical or literary names. My last cat that was exclusively mine was 'Guinevere'.
'Midori' is a pretty cool name.
Don't worry about the kitty being scared, he'll get over that very quickly, and you will soon have to remove fragile things from anywhere he might conceivably climb.
Re: help me name my kitty!
Midori seems too femme for a tom.... I do like Toby though!

OMG that's funny! I thought we were the only ones who had weird pet names. Our white cat's name is PudintameaskmeagainI'lltellyouthesame which got shortened to Puddy. But we just call him Monkey now.
Re: help me name my kitty!
Oh! a real cat.............:P
Ummmmm black, white, and hides under the bed............ Troll?
Coal as in Coal black. Later he will grow on you and when he come out from under the bed Mr. Underfoot.... Try a heating pad in a box beside his bed with a saucer of milk beside it....
Re: help me name my kitty!
Don't give him milk.
Cats are very lactose intolerant. You don't want to make your cat sick.
Re: help me name my kitty!
^2nd that. Milk will just make your poor kitty diarrhea everywhere.
Hiding under the bed is pretty normal during this getting-to-know you time. One of mine hid from me for a week before he'd let me pet him. Now he follows me everywhere, but he's still a tease. He's the only one who will not sit in my lap, he'll only sit against me, or next to me, or just out of my reach.
One way to get him to love you is to talk to him in a high, soft, soothing voice. Reach out to him and let him smell your hand before you touch him. Stick to petting him on the head at first. Some kitty's will get antsy if you go near the belly or rear. They have to trust you first. If you see him start to wag his tail back and forth, he's irritated. Back off until he calms down, then try again with the soothing voice.

The Naming of Cats
by T. S. Eliot
The naming of cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm mad as a hatter
When I tell you a cat must have three
different names.
First of all, there's the name
that the family use daily,
Such as Victor, or Jonathan,
George or Bill Bailey--
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names
if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen,
some for the dames;
Such as Plato, Admetus,
Electra, Demeter--
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you,
a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that is peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he
keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers,
or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind,
I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quazo or Coripat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellyrum--
Names that never belong
to more than one cat.
But above and beyond
there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you will never guess;
The name
that no human research can discover--
But The Cat Himself Knows,
and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought,
of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.
