Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
Trust me, the grass will be greener on the other side. It took me almost a year to try to get the courage to leave Deja Vu. Once I did, there was no turning back.
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
From what I hear, that's SOP at Deja Vu, and yes, it's exploitative and wrong. The grass will definitely be greener elsewhere. I'll never understand why anyone volunteers to work for Deja Vu; you could just get a street pimp and be treated with more respect.
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
before reading your post, i'd say yes.
after reading it, i'd say yes. get out now! deja vu is not a fun company to work for.
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
yeah, ditto..you'd be better off elsewhere.
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
there's no reason you should be turning over a third of what you make. i know it's hard to leave your first club (i got treated like shit for quite a while before i finally got the fuck out) but you'll be glad you did.
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
Sounds like typical DV garbage. I wish they would close down all of them...no offense to the girls who like it but I can't possibly understand what you see in it. To me it seems like an abusive boyfriend and you think he loves you even though he hits you all the time...except the boyfriend doesn't even pretend to like you.
I had heard bad things about it but I had to go see it myself. I'm surprised I don't have nightmares about it. I've been to several dives and enjoyed them a lot more.
The one thing that is understandable to me (although not desirable) is the 1/3 paycut thing. You can expect to bring home about HALF of what you make in higher end clubs in LA. I have an issue, however, with the fines, customers, patronizing attitude, strict rules and cattle calls.
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
You're gettin' screwed. I worked at the Vu in Nashville for a while, and we got treated like we were 6 most of the time. *So* glad I am not there any more. I flick off the building as I drive by every once in a while, and then laugh because I am making way more money now.
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
I have to stick up for my dejavu club--which has some really good managers and is overall the best club for dancers in St louis. (Although they will hire anyone--are all dejavus like this?)
But your club sounds awful! Go somewhere else!

I agree w/ Jenna. Dont' get me wrong, I loved my Deja Vu club too.Girls and managers are great at my deja Vu BUT in comparision with the earning potential with my area, it just wasn't there. After I went down to FL and saw the money making potential, and then tried another club, an hour away from my Deja Vu club I knew there was no turning back.
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
I think a big chunk of the problem is that they don't serve alcohol. That means we get a lot of young people - and the drunken rush from other bars at 2 am. And since there is no money from drinks, the only income is from the dancers. Now they're adding in fines to sqeeze more moolah out of us. :(
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
There are some exceptions when it comes to Deja Vu because of good local staff or best money around in that town. However, in general and from a corporate stand point most longterm dancers seem to prefer to avoid Deja Vu clubs for the exact reasons and complaints listed in the OP.
And from a retired dancer perspective, I am in agreement with that general opinion.
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
Before I even read your post, my answer was a big fat resounding YES, just from reading the title.
After reading your post: YES YES YES. That is standard operating procedure for Deja Vu - fuck over the girls any way they can. Get your ass to another club!!!
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
From the customers POV, the one time I visited a DV was the time I felt the greatest pressure to spend the most money for the least return ever. I did have three memorable lap dances from one dancer while I was there, but I seemed to run out of money a lot faster than most places..
As soon as I got back in the VIP, there was the waitress asking did I want to buy a drink for the dancer for, I think, $10. Which I did, and it sat on the floor untouched and was still there when I left. Next dancer, the price of a dance doubled between the time we left the floor until we got to the VIP.
The same money goes a lot farther in another club. Evidently most of it does not get to the dancer. I don't think I'll go back again.
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
Deja Vu is a corporate club with the vast majority of their locations being juice bars, thus the large amount of young customers.
To be successful in this business a girl should experiment with lots of different clubs.
I worked at Deja Vu in Colorado Springs and another location in the South years ago.
I'll never dance at one of their clubs again.
That is also why you'll se so many young dancers at their clubs. The older ones know better.

Yep. They also PREFER hiring younger dancers - guess why. They know the younger dancers are more pliable and naive ;)
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
I actually had a nightmare about working at a Deja Vu-type club. I was screaming at TWO managers & wrestling with them over $300 bucks. Yuck.
I heard the Stockton, CA DV got so crazy the dancers were catfighting over stage time. I hope Deja Vu Corp. runs themselves into the ground, the f*ckers.
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
Is it true in all DVs that you are required to give up all the profits from your first 8 dances? This is what totally scared me away from it most of all.

Considering all the various payouts, that's not far from the truth. I haven't heard of them requiring that girls actually hand over all the money from the first ___ dances, but when you consider the payouts, that's what it amounts to.
When I worked at Hustler Baltimore, my payouts amounted to about the first 6-8 dances, depending.
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
the last time i worked at hustler baltimore, payout was something like $50 house fee, $3 on every dance, $10 dj, and i think $10 or 20 for hospitality. then you had to tip out the vip host based on how many rooms you did. i freaking hated that place. (but NOT all the managers.. i wont name names but there are a few that i would work with again)
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
When I worked, house was $10, couches dances where $20 (not incld. specials) and you gave the club $7 each of those dances. Plus, tipping the dj @ Min was $10 but if you didn't want a shitty intro or music you'd pay the $20. Plus, we had a DJ and MC so they each got $20/each.
If I wanted to bring home around $400 I'd end up tipping out will over $250.
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
Yeah, my first reaction just on seeing the title was, "Probably.” I’ve never dealt with such disrespectful managers as I did at the DV I worked at. One of them probably still has scars on his hands from my fingernails. If you decide to reach out and grab my nipples, particularly as my supervisor, you better expect permanent scars. They took oodles of our money as well.
Re: Is Deja Vu screwing me?
The managers treat us like dirt. If a girl starts crying - even out of pain, we get yelled at. :(
