Re: The debut of my invert
Haha, that is awesome. So.....what was was the eureka? :)
Re: The debut of my invert
Good luck! And damn, I hate doing pole tricks without the shoes! The pole hurts the top of my foot, and I feel like the plastic on my shoes makes me stick to the pole... but I could just be a weirdo.

Yes kids, I may forget my acid/base titrations and solubility constants, but dammit, when I am old and gray I will think back fondly on my pole tricks.
So it is time to make a debut of my invert (one of them at least) at the club. Next Thursday, I still need some time to figure it all out with shoes. Barefoot is one thing, with 6" heels is a whole 'nother story.
This is one of the coolest posts I have seen, in 4 1/2 years in SW.
I already forgot my acid/base titrations (on purpose, I think), but I still remember the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle, and I can do inverted pole tricks, lol.
I think the human body behaves more like a wave than a particle, if you do them correctly.
But I am confused--you must have a pole at home--it sounds as though you tested out your revelation/new method without shoes.
Regardless, I have no doubt you will figure it out, and more power to you...
Re: The debut of my invert
I love dancing barefoot. Although I only do this at home of course.
As for those scientific words u r using, u may as well be speaking japanese lol too much for this girl to comprehend, Ill stick to law.

I have heard it described as being tacky a zillion times, but I have seen one dancer who could pull it off, onstage, in the club--she was phenomenal.

Law?! Having read legal documents, dissenting opinions, etc., and ghost written a paper about the role of the Supreme Court for an ex, I think physics and law are about equal as far as being a challenge.

Yeah agreed but certain people are stronger at certain disciplines.
I love studying law and I am pretty good at it - well I hope study translates to practice. However, I could never get my head around either maths or science.

Lately at work I've been wearing a long flowing bohemian hippie type skirt and no top...with flip flops...when i go on stage I'm barefoot...and it's working fabulously for me! I also have the luxury of working in a club where we can wear anything we want..jeans, sneakers, heels, stripper gear...whatever...;D
Re: The debut of my invert
Judging from your photograph there, you could probably wear a tent or a burlap sack onstage and pull it off...
Jazaine, I tested out extremely high in the SATs for math, like 99th percentile, but Calculus fucking killed me, because I was bored to death, plus it was an 8 AM class and I was a freshman party monster back then. I still hate math, except a little geometry now and then.
Physics, on the other hand--though it involves intense mathematics indeed--also rewards the student with an almost religious appreciation for the machinations of the universe, so I liked it, even if the math sucked, lol.
However, a couple of friends of mine in Austin were getting their doctorates in physics, and they had these big, thick books, with page after page of equations. No fucking words, just equations, the entire book! I'd blow my brains out after ten minutes of that. And what's even more amazing, one of these guys couldn't work unless he was high on weed!
But if you can handle the kind of reading, analysis, and writing that a law degree entails, you need not worry about any deficiency in mathematical aptitude, that's for sure.
Curiously enough, though, the math experience I think helped me when I was doing shopping center designs. Not directly, but as a sort of 'brain training'.
But sorry, this is getting way the hell off topic. Sunnie, you must update us on your kinetic revelation and the new pole trick!
Re: The debut of my invert
Yes please share. I remember more chem then physics...but I may still comprehend! and since i haev a tendency to pull my calf muscle every time I try an invert..I know I'm doing something wrong
Re: The debut of my invert
^^^ok, this made sense in class. I was trying to get my leg up higher so I could hook with my ankle without using the momentum of taking a step and then launching. So then in my little stick figures I saw that the momentum is really coming from the hips, not the legs. And kind of like in a pitch, you have to keep the follow through with the hips until inverted. Like I was catching with my foot and then pulling up with my hips to gain height. So the key is to keep lifting the hips as you are locking the leg in place. Does that make sense?
I was thinking about work=force times distance. Ok, so hips are moving a shorter distance, increase the work done by using more force. And force=mass times acceleration. Well, losing acceleration by not taking a step, make up by using more mass. And that is where the hips come into play.
But then when you get into more advanced pole dancers, like on the verticaldance site, you can see that the girl pulls almost completely with her middle and upper body, and doesn't use as much force by the push off, because when she is horizontal going up, both her legs are like half tucked. This is more for people that can roll up from the shoulder mount, and that is WAAAAY more advanced than me, so, whatever.
Oh, and we were working on chemical kinetics, so it was Boyle's law (pressure times volume = K [a constant, used in terms of force times distance])
Re: The debut of my invert
Oh, I may be wrong, so someone please correct me. Also, I took a class on kinetics for exercise physiology. We had a book called Sports Mechanics for Coaches. It was a super interesting layman's book, it went through various mechanics, I wish I hadn't sold it on half.com. LOL. But the stuff about diving I could never really wrap my brain around.

[QUOTE][So the key is to keep lifting the hips as you are locking the leg in place. Does that make sense?
/QUOTE]
Absolutely! As I told you, throw your hips...force them up as you are inverting....one continual motion. It allows you to position your legs higher on the pole. Also locking your upper body (arms bent slightly), and pulling yourself into the pole, increases your ability to swing your hips higher. Maybe we should start using shoes, you have figured out your center?
Cameron...are you catching the pole with the toe or heel? This may make a difference...if you use your toes, then you are putting too much strain on the calf. Try catching your heel.

Hmmm...I think I'm pinning the pole between the tops of my feet, then pushing the pole to my ankles if that makes sense. I dont think I'm getting enough lift to propel myself far enough
Re: The debut of my invert
Cameron, the night I first saw you at the other club in Key West, I walked in and you were onstage. I wasn't sure if it was you, but then you did a serious pole trick, upside down--so I had to go tip you. I remember complimenting you about the trick, which I wouldn't do if I didn't mean it. Then I found out it was you, of course.
So I'd say you aren't too far from doing what you want, keep at it.
BTW I saw Jordan from SW tonight, she was working dayshift but might start nights soon (I did get to play some Type O Negative for her, though). She is a sweetheart. If you don't know her yet you have to meet her, so get your ass back down here, lol.

Eh, you may have picked up more than you realize.
The best class I had in college was one about tesselation and stacking structures, but was nonetheless really more physics than anything else.
It was brutal. No way would I ever have taken it if I could have avoided it, but I'm glad I did now. The average midterm score was like 37 or something--no one really got it. But as far as really visualizing what goes on at a submolecular level, it was the best ever.
Once I again I apologize for veering offtopic, but the physics/poletrick connection is riveting.

Thanks! Some tricks come easily to me...others are damn near impossible!
Jordans going back eh? Yes, I've known her for years, we worked together at your club yrs ago..and she is a sweetheart. She came to BA for awhile...I wonder what happened to make her go back.
