Who Has Checked Out "The Secret"?
Prior to viewing the DVD, there were a lot of principles discussed that I already believed, but somehow, it all clicked and came together after watching. I can honestly say that it has changed my life and the way that I work. For example, before going to work on night, I kept repeating to myself "I am a money magnet. Money will come to me and present itself." Later, my first and only customer refused to let me leave his side...I made ALL of my cash from him ;D[not including stage tips].
Has anyone else had similar experiences?
Re: Who Has Checked Out "The Secret"?
Yeah, my friend has that. *shrugs*
I dunno, to me it seemed to incorporate every self help cliche I've already heard, just repackaged with a catchy title and clever marketing ploy (thanks, Oprah!). I've found Superflirt to be way more helpful in work situations. But happy its helping you!
Re: Who Has Checked Out "The Secret"?
There are some very interesting concepts in there but it falls to pieces once they start equating the Law of Attraction as being a scientific law just like the Law of Gravity or quantum physics which is utter nonsense. Not to mention the fact that their very own principles make absolutely no logical sense whatsoever. For example:
In the movie, they claim that your positive or negative thoughts manifest things in the world around you. In addition, in numerous places they claim this is 100% factual and happens 100% of the time. So, going on that, let's use the example they actually use in the movie. They claim that traffic jams are manifested because of just one person thinking and focussing about being late for work. Because that one person created so much negative energy in their thoughts, a traffic jam was manifested and he was, in fact, late for work. So what about the 40 or 50 other people in that same equasion? Let's say that 50 other people in that traffic jam all had positive thoughts that they were going to be on time or that they were going to have awesome days. So now, this is totally negating the one negative person, right? But how could this be? They claim this works 100% of the time so why did it work in favor of the negative person as opposed to the 50 other people who were thinking positively? My brain hurts just thinking how ludicrous this concept is. It's the entire basis for the entire movement and it can't even withstand basic scrutiny, so to call it a law and more importantly, compare it to major scientific laws is hillarious.
Look, I'm all for positive thinking because I know it works. It doesn't work because it's a scientific principle though. The only reason movies like What The Bleep (created by the famous "Ramtha" cult) and The Secret keep trying to claim it's science (when it's clearly not) is because they had to bottle new-age thinking into a form that our current society could wrap around. Sold on its own merrits, it would have been laughed out of existence a long time ago just like the Transcendental Meditation folks were in the 70s.
To quote a blog I read discussing the movie:
I was taught "The Secret" when I was younger by a well-guarded book shown to only those who can understand the secret. It's called "The Little Engine that Could". He thought he could do it, he worked towards his goal and he took the chance to prove he could do it when the situation presented itself. AMAZING!

Re: Who Has Checked Out "The Secret"?
I've watched the film, and though the assertions made in the film are totally ridiculous (scientific evidence; a tried-and-true step formula to arriving at your goal), I did take some valuable information from it: Positive thoughts/energy inspire positive results. This doesn't mean that if you're sitting around wishing for 1 million dollars that you'll suddenly find it on your doorstep, but rather, if you're having a good day and thinking positively, you're more likely to respond to your environment or act more productively or feel encouraged to take the steps needed to earn money. If you're having a bad day, you're much less inclined to work as hard or respond to opportunities that may come your way. Also, happiness can help stress, which can definitely strengthen the immune system and other aspects of one's physical well-being. So for instance, the woman who had cancer and then beat it quickly probably did this by keeping positive and staying healthy and vitalized.
I didn't agree with the way in which The Secret marketed this concept (with a whole lot of BS in between) because this isn't a revolutionary idea. However, it got me thinking about it and allowed me to at least take this aspect away from it.

First of all, thanks Emily! Those links were very helpful.
Also, another helpful link is "Who IS a powerful money maker" (Hustle Hut): http://www.stripperweb.com/forum/showthread.php?t=85452
For me, it's very exciting that the concept of "The Law of Attraction" is reaching into mainstream society.
I think the Universe is so infinitely more comlicated than the advances of science can wrap it's head around. Many discoveries in history of science were actually conceived and developed on an intuitive level,..and such theories only became labeled as 'science' once someone discovered a way to explain it in somekind of standard linear format using the scientific model. (electricity is one example.)
Anyway, I think the important thing to do is forget what SOUNDS logical, and don't over-analyze and get all stuck on the "why's". Instead, momentarily suspend all judgement and just give it a try! See if it works for you! Don't worry about whether or not the whole "traffic jam" thing seems logical. Forget about that. Just TRY it!
Oh yea, an amazing book written on all of this (which was WAY ahead of its time), is called "The Power of Positive Thinking" by Vincent Peale. I also recommend, "The Law of Attraction" by Esther and Jerry Hicks.

Superflirt
Think and Grow Rich
with these two books you will be a money maker as one teaches you non verbal communication and how to use it to your advantage in the work environment (we are being paid to be flirts) and the other already discovered "the secret" (not so much a secret in the end huh?) a looooooong time ago.
Re: Who Has Checked Out "The Secret"?
yes i have. i have been studying this type of stuff for a while thru various books but this dvd explains things in such a great way it all just clicks and makes sense. i recommend it to a lot of people. you can watch the movie on their website.
Re: Who Has Checked Out "The Secret"?
I, for one, really felt motivated by the movie. I felt good when I watched it, aside from the boring parts. Most of us know that what you think is what you will get, eventually. Whether it has to do with the universe, or not, who knows? I just like the idea, and the fact that I felt good/motivated after watching it.
The site seems to be more of a sales technique, so I avoid it. It ruins my good feelings about the video.
Re: Who Has Checked Out "The Secret"?
Yeah, the scientific/physics claims are stupid. Like attracts like? Last I heard, opposites attract.
Re: Who Has Checked Out "The Secret"?
goldcoastgirl, thanks for recommending Think and Grow Rich,...i have had that book for ages and have been trying to motivated myself to read it. you're suggestion really helps. i'll give it a second try. thanks!
