dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
This can also be addressed to dancers who have other outside work commitments (kids, employment, etc). Have you noticed that stripping gets in the way of your performance? Are you stripping on nights you know you should not be?
I think I am in that boat right now. Tonight for example I just got home from the club. I know I should not have gone tonight, I have class tomorrow at 10am. Further more I have an assignment due on Wednesday. I have seen my grades slowly go down. It is almost like I am addicted to my job.

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
I'm really good about not going in when I have other homework to do or if i have to wake up early for a class the next day. Trust me, work > school work any day! But, it makes work that much more fun for me. Like, "Yay! I get to work! That means I'm not in school and nothing's due!" But, I definately make up for that on vacations and weekends (I'm a little workaholic in the summer omg!).

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
When I worked and was writing my thesis I danced 2 nights a week (didn't have class until the afternoon the days after). I found it to actually be very grounding b/c it was time out of my school schedule where I simply could not think about how much school was affecting me, as my senior year was incredibly stressful both academically and emotionally. However, I made sure not to dance more than 2 nights a week.

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
I will not work on nights where I have uni the next day coz I know I will either not learn anything or I wont turn up at all.
I dance two nights per week coz I work long shifts 10-12 hours and I feel pretty tired the next day and find it hard to get study done.
The biggest problem getting in the way of my study is SW tho!

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
I don't work much when I'm studying, just when my courseload is light. I can't believe how much some girls work while they're in school!
I have a hard time justifying studying when there's money to be made, and a hard time justifying work then I have a test/paper due, but ultimately, school usually wins out.
Dancing doesn't get in the way...it's the reason I can devote so much time to my studies.

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
Another thing about dancing during school that isn't nec. relevant to the OP. I never worked both Friday & Saturday (on the rare occasion that I wanted to dance 3x+ a week). Because those were pretty important socializing nights, and your friends will feel it if you're ditching going out for drinks to go to the club.
(Of course, one should not care about what one's friends think about dancing. But I did place a lot of importance on all of those actual moments of being able to hang out with my equally stressed out friends during my senior year of college and I had a lot of great, crazy experiences.)

School first, dancing second. I dance two days a week, no more.

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
I don't have school, but I have a child and other career goals (in acting and writing). You have to prioritize. Figure out what is most important to you and just work dancing around it. It's that simple. That is the wonderful thing about dancing is the flexibility. You just have to remain disciplined.

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
Yeah work gets in the way for me, but not of studying. I study just fine. It's getting up in the morning that is the problem!
Next semester: no classes before 12pm!

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
my club works with me about school, and i dont think it necessarily has any affect on my grades. true, youre up later/putting off work, but you can use that to your advantage. get the work done ahead of time, i *try* (doesnt always happen) to have one day where i do all of my assignments for the week. that way, i'm free to work when i want to and i dont have to stress over things getting done.

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
1. Don't take early classes. Register ASAP so you can choose, if possible.
2. Don't dance on schoolnights if you do have to be up early. Just don't.
3. Dance on weekends
4. I would work my ASS off during breaks so I didn't have to struggle to keep up during the semester.
I got a bachelors AND am MBA from this, so heed my advice!

I agree. I'm supposed to spend my time at home on my computer getting work done but I always end up on SW!

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
oh yeah. i skip my last class to go to work all the time. :( i try not to, but lately (esp right now) i'm really trying to make as much as possible. i'm so gratefull when i have a great day, because then i can afford to just focus on school the next day instead of trying to go to school for 4-5 hours, then bust my ass to make it to work (while skipping my last class).

This is a good way to prioritize.
When my child is with his Dad, I work my butt off (obviously his father and I are not together). If I have my child the next day, I work a day shift or I do not work late. The worst is being cranky bitchy Zombie Mom the next day due to lack of sleep, and it's not fair to my kid. So I avoid late shifts. Then I can be happy bubbly fun mini-golfing soccer-playing Mom the next day. Yay!

Yup, all my classes this quarter are starting at 1pm. My longest day is Wednesday. I have classes from 1pm-4pm and then 6:30-9:10 *gulp* I am so not looking forward to it. But yea, make your classes later in the day so you can get a full nights sleep.
if that isnt' the option right now becasue you're already in your classes, then make Thurs, Friday, Sat, Sun your best friend. I never work 4days per week while in school but I think those are the best. If your job allows it, bring your books w/ you to work. That's what I used to do when it was super slow.

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
My "early" class is at 11:15 and I never dance the night before.
Last semester I worked 3-4 days a week, more often 4, took 5 classes (stats, chem with lab and bio with lab), took the GRE, and applied to grad school. I also interned one day a week.
I got a 4.0, a 1330 on the GRE, and I got into my dream school. At the end of the semester, burned out only begins to describe how I felt.
This semester I work 4 days a week and I find it really hard to study. I have spring fever I guess, but I am having a really hard time staying on track. But I am working to save money so my first year in my grad program I won't have money pressures. So far, I plan to live in a dorm (my parents agreed to pay :D) and work as little as humanly possible.

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
Just about anything can get in the way of your school performance if you let it. Stripping just happens to be your excuse as to why your grades are slipping. And notice I said excuse because that's what it is.
You'll get no sympathy here. Life is about balance and discipline. Re-evaluate what's more important to you, your schooling or dancing. It's not always an easy task, but it can be done. Suck it up and be conscience of what days work best for you to work.
If your school is the priority then treat it as such, the club ain't going nowhere.

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
^^^Life is cyclical, sometimes you are on the ball, and sometimes you aren't. Not everyone can be perfect all the time.
If you have classes you don't enjoy, and lot of homework too, then it is easy to use work as an escape. The trick is to find the motivating factor that will send you back to the library.
Like buy a ticket somewhere for the end of the semester, then promise yourself you will work your ass off until then and then forget about school and work during your trip. This usually happens to me at the end of spring semester (because I go to my parents house on winter break), I am burned out and need a break. Last year I did short trips to the Bahamas and Vegas. My senior year of college I needed MAJOR motivation, so I planned a month to Portugal, Spain and Morrocco. Once again this year I need major motivation, so it is Costa Rica.

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
I am in school and I only dance 2-3 times a week, Thursday-Saturday. My classes are at night until 10. I have plenty of time for studying for tests, and there is no class for me on Fridays, so I can go to work after class on Thursday, work through the weekend and make plenty to pay all my bills and have fun money. It really is all about balance between the two and a hard hustle when your at work. School has to be priority one.

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
I started stripping so that I would have more time for school and it has made me realize how much of a workaholic I am. I promised myself not to work on school nights but then I end up not being able to sleep and feeling guilty for not going to work! I'm hoping that next semeter I'll schedule school around my job and make it easier to devote equal time to each. (Its weird, I've always prioritized school before now but our job can be so much fun....people tell you what you do right instead of wrong, lol)::)

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
Maybe you could do some day shifts to keep your evenings free to study or whatever...

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
I used to fall into the trap of dancing on nights when I shouldn't, but I snapped out of that fast - do you really want to risk your education for the sake of dancing? The way I look at it, dancing is what is supporting my education, but my degree is what will take me out of dancing into a job that I can continue into my old age...so I'm not going to risk it...
I work my butt off during holidays, and then cut down to 1-2 days a week during school.

Re: dancers at school: does stripping get in the way of your school performance?
What a great discussion we've got going here-especially as the semester nears the end and the pressure piles on!
I take 5 classes 2 days a week, usually dance 2-3 nights a week, and nanny 3 days a week. Needless to say, I'm busy! However, (and this is just my personality!) but I find I am much more organized and focused when I have a lot on my plate; with no structure, I tend to get lazy and think, " Eh, I'll work/study/write my paper/"fill in the blank" later" and then nothing gets finished.
I am finishing up my junior year of pre-law so that means I have to start taking a prep course for the LSAT and preparing to apply to law schools for early admission; it does get stressful sometimes but it does help that my club is EXTREMELY understanding and supportive of my academic goals. Also, it's such a good feeling to know that, already, law school will be partially if not totally paid for even before I arrive!
Good luck in your studies and your dancing, btw!
