Numbing Creams: Cosmetic Procedures (including Laser) Or Burning Itchy Skin
Hello all. I am posting this in an effort to alert you all of an obscure secondary complication arising from post-treatment of cosmetic procedures, AND generally the use of skin numbing agents to treat burning or itchy skin with BOTH prescription and over the counter creams and lotions alike.
Regarding cosmetic procedures, even "minor" procedures can have serious risks and compications, since these treatments are still new and unstudied, therefore recipients are basically the guinea pigs from which these doctors profit from, while experimenting their procedures for fine tuning.
Anyway...
Two women (22 and 25) who had undergone LASER HAIR REMOVAL applied analgesics to their legs as per their doctors recommendation, and
Quote:
"had seizures, fell into comas, and subsequently DIED :O (emphasiss added) from the toxic effects of the anesthetic drugs,” the FDA said. " <- Quote from link
As I read this, many of you girls popped into my head, since I have ran into several threads discussing those who currently are, or have an interest in, undergoing laser treatment. This article caused me grave concern for you, and so here I am starting a thread about it and posting a long *ss post :glasses: ...
Becasue I wouldn't want that to be anyone on here (or anywhere else, for that matter) who goes through this :'( ...
:grouphug: .
Note-This will also apply to those of you who might be treating some type of skin issue via prescription or over the counter creams.
The FDA advises against using these numbing creams without medical supervision.
Some of culprit numbing ingredients are, but are not limited to:
Benzocaine
Lidocaine
Prilocaine
Tetracaine,
ETC., so take extra precaution, as there are more.
Please, be careful. Your life is NOT the AMA or FDA's responsibility, since they expect you to be an educated consumer for the services and products they sell, like any other business.
So YOU have to be cautious and aware of what they sell you; Because unlike a bad pair of shoes, when you buy a promise of beauty involving cosmetic procedures, not only must you accept this promise in your mind and checkbook, but you have to accept INTO YOUR BODY.
Our lives are a gift and to enjoy this gift we have to take care of and respect our bodies. This is achieved by investigating any suggestions, products or procedures involving your body EVEN IF THEY ARE "approved" -
Because you are the only one that will pay for the procedure;
Psychologically (pre and post)
Out of pocket AND
with YOUR health or worse, YOUR LIFE !
Ask your doctor about everything they will use on you. Press them if you have to, since YOU ARE PAYING SOOO MUCH FOR THEIR TIME !!!
If you have a persistent skin condition, please do not attempt to treat yourself unless it is homepathically, since holistic treatments have little to no side effects because they are natural.
Our bodies reject foreign material, so it stands to reason that there is a good chance that anything that is chemical / synthetic will be rejected by our bodies.
Furthermore, these chemicals have obviously not been extensively tested, since they have been assumed to be "safe," yet there are safety issues now arising.

Take care of yourselves.

Re: Numbing Creams: Cosmetic Procedures (including Laser) Or Burning Itchy Skin
Thanks for posting this. Definitely research any procedure thoroughly.
As an alternative to laser hair removal, (which I hear is supposed to be extremely painful) I recommend looking into Intense Pulsed Light hair removal. I just had my second treatment and barely felt felt it. The sensation is like light pin pricks, and I found it extremely easy.... definitely less painful than waxing!
Re: Numbing Creams: Cosmetic Procedures (including Laser) Or Burning Itchy Skin
The newer (and IMHO, better) laser hair removal equipment uses a light blast of extreme cold right before the hot laser, and as a result does not require the use of a numbing cream. If you are asked to use a numbing cream find someone else! Find someone who uses a Candela GentleLase laser. It feels somewhat like someone snapping you with a rubber band, as opposed to the numbing-cream lasers that feel like someone covering you with fire ants.
Re: Numbing Creams: Cosmetic Procedures (including Laser) Or Burning Itchy Skin
the article doesn't say that their doctor recommended they slather numbing cream on and then wrap their legs in saran wrap...it just says they were instructed to. Isn't this procedure also performed in a spa like setting by technicians, or is a doctor the only one allowed to perform it?
I know, I'm nit-picky haha
thanks for posting this tho.
Re: Numbing Creams: Cosmetic Procedures (including Laser) Or Burning Itchy Skin
Thanks for posting. I think these were rather unusual cases tho. Well I have had laser hair removal and I just handled the pain I didn't use any numbing agents.
Re: Numbing Creams: Cosmetic Procedures (including Laser) Or Burning Itchy Skin
I understand that for many of you this does not apply and for that I am glad :) .
However, I believe that just like these girls were in the minority, there is always a minority of people who might be helped by information.
And I also believe that for evey reported case of something, there may be 1-2 cases that are unreported due to the patient's ignorance or simply the doctor's failure to diagnose symptoms and connect them to the procedures.
I am glad if this could be helpful to even one person, which is why I posted.
