Awesome song. Both gave me chills and made me laugh "you've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine"
I love Pink....
Funny this should be my first post on here, but I couldn't resist. This song is just another reason why most entertainers should keep their mouths shut and continue doing what made them successful in the first place. This song is wrong in more ways than I can count. Why not break it down:
"Dear Mr. President"
(feat. Indigo Girls)
Dear Mr. President,
Come take a walk with me.
Let's pretend we're just two people and
You're not better than me.
I'd like to ask you some questions if we can speak honestly.
OK, fair introduction. Nice to see she already implies George W. Bush must consider himself better than her and anyone else, but I'll roll with it.
What do you feel when you see all the homeless on the street?
Probably the same thing every other President prior to him has felt, not good. But then again, George W. Bush is probably responsible for every cracked out alcoholic who can't get a job and is living it up on the streets.
Who do you pray for at night before you go to sleep?
My guess is our country.
What do you feel when you look in the mirror?
Glad the song got very creative at this point.
Are you proud?
Maybe not, but ashamed? Probably not either.
How do you sleep while the rest of us cry?
Boohoo. Yes, all 330 million of us cry ourselves to sleep every night while Bush gently drifts off into dreams of cotton candy, pink horses, and rainbows.
How do you dream when a mother has no chance to say goodbye?
Last time I checked, our defense forces were completely voluntary. Nobody forced her son to join the miliary. This one gets to me. Be prepared for the consequences when you commit to a certain action.
How do you walk with your head held high?
Should the leader of the most powerful nation in the world mope around all day with his face to the ground? That would sure do wonders for all those who despise our country in the first place.
Can you even look me in the eye
And tell me why?
As stated above.
Dear Mr. President,
Were you a lonely boy?
I doubt it.
Are you a lonely boy?
I doubt it.
Are you a lonely boy?
I doubt it.
How can you say
No child is left behind?
We're not dumb and we're not blind.
They're all sitting in your cells
While you pave the road to hell
She may have lost me on this one. No Child Left Behind is what the act was entitled. I'm curious as to what 'cells' they are sitting in. Considering Bush is from Texas, I'm surprised we didn't get a line about executing people. Either way, I guess we are all on the road to hell. As you know, here in a America we are under a strict dictatorship with little room for our own individual intellectual thought. We are nothing more than lemmings following our leader.
What kind of father would take his own daughter's rights away?
And what kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay?
I can only imagine what the first lady has to say.
Our we talking about Bush or Cheney here. She probably doesn't know the difference, but hell, she can't mess up the rhyming scheme she has going.
You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.
I'm pretty sure we haven't proved the latter.

Already covered.
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Minimum wage with a baby on the way
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Rebuilding your house after the bombs took them away
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Building a bed out of a cardboard box
Let me tell you 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
You don't know nothing 'bout hard work
Hard work
Hard work
Oh
Uhhhh, this makes me want a vomit, especially coming from Pink. We all know she has an extremely rough life. I don't know how she lives on only an annual income of around $10 million dollars.
How do you sleep at night?
How do you walk with your head held high?
Dear Mr. President,
You'd never take a walk with me.
Would you?
Probably not. I hope he has better things to do than babysit your dumbass.
LOVE this song!
I love Pink and I love songs with a message. Artists should not shut up, its great when thier work gets people talking.
You're right, it is completely voluntary but from personal experience, those recruiters try to brainwash you into thinking that the city streets are much more dangerous than this war. They even went undercover in my city about this...
Also, did you ever stop and think about the people in the military that are not apart of the U.S.? There are more people dying in this war than just US soldiers..
Not to mention that even if it is voluntary..it doesnt excuse continually sending people to their deaths in a war most of the country doesnt agree with. I'm sure that most of these kids signed up to serve and defend their country...not to be used as expendable pawns in a war to defend daddy's honor and make money for frat brother friends.
"You've come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.
I'm pretty sure we haven't proved the latter."
He admitted to abusing alcohol until he was forty, and when asked about illegal drug use he said he has not done illegal drugs since 1974.
Thats an admission that he did them at one time in my book.
I don't care for Pink that much, but I admire her for having the guts to put this song out there.
I'm all for Pink and her latest trend of "thinking songs".
Gotta disagree wholeheartedly with you on this one SillySuzie.
every homeless person isnt a "cracked out alcoholic."
this has already been said, but if you have soooo much to say, shouldnt you maybe be able to pick up on the jail reference?Quote:

bush is anti-abortion. therefore taking away a woman's rights.Quote:

i'm going to refrain from the name calling, though i shouldn't since you obviously couldn't. hey, this was your first post, if that's how you want to come in, you might want to make it your last.Quote:

Probably not. I hope he has better things to do than babysit your dumbass.
And I wouldnt exactly call being homeless "living it up" either!! Does she have any idea what being homeless means? Does she really think it is like a lifelong block party???
Besides..Pink said "MIGHT hate his own daughter IF she were gay". Since he is as anti-homosexual as Cheney is..if one of the twins turned up gay I have no doubt he would deny her. At the very least he would not allow her to marry or have any rights that heteros have...if he didnt publicly disown her.
Actually entertainers and singers in particular have a long, long history of speaking out about political and cultural things.
Consider for example Bob Dylan and John Lennon.
What a loss it would have been to the music world if we had never been given the songs "Tambourine Man" or "Imagine".
If we just made every person that someone else had a disagreement of opinion with shut up we would have almost no songs at all.
You can defend Bush all you want because it is ofcourse your free speech right to do so but try and remember that free speech extends to people other than yourself as well.
Also, just because someone NOW makes 10mil doesn't mean they had a fricken easy life. Boot straps anyone? Also, just because they have 10mil doesn't mean their life is any easier now, either.
I usually try to avoid threads of a contreversial nature because I've never loved debating.
But I like Pink. And well....I don't like George W. Bush. And it's about time a song came out about something besides humping and actualy addressed something. She had balls to do it.
So rock on, Pink.
"her humps, her humps her humps her humps, we love our pooka's humps her humps her humps her humps, check em out"
hehehe
sorry, way off topic..thought i'd lighten the mood a bit
:rotfl:
I'm gonna get get get you drunk, get you drunk off my lady humps!
What does that even MEAN?!
NOBODY knowsss but it's provocative!!!
(blades of glory)
Hehe.
*scampers off shaking pooka humps*
I always feel drunk thinking of Pookas humps.......
silly suzie, cant help but wonder if you have ever experianced anything she is singing about, or are worried about the worlds changing political views.
artists and others in the media constantly speak out about political views, they get the message across far before a average joe does in the media.
look what robin williams done for the electric car, bob geldolf done for africa in the 80s, angelina jolie does for 3rd world nations...oprah for kids education.... ffs, i can go on, but your probably a patriotic flag waving american who is too damn dense to see what impact your retarded presidant has on the rest of the world....
Whoa....ok I know what you were trying to get across here...but there are many of us that are patriotic that hate the current administration. In fact..those that truly love America are livid over what is being done to it. Please dont confuse patriotic with blindly towing the party line
Trust me when I say I know the type of people she's referring to, and it's not like that. She means the people that say America is Number One, and how America is the only place that ____ will happen... like free speech and the right to bear arms. There are these people that seriously truly believe America is some fantastic fabulous place AND (not OR) the rest of the world is some 3rd world back-water place that can't keep up with the awesomeness that is t3h aM3rica~!
When you travel a lot, you see it more, and it's mostly prevailant in the elitist entitled American-types (not saying it's not any other country - it just seems more rampant since it's brain-washed into you that NOTHING is better) who push and shove on how their country is the best (while IN other countries) and refuse to adhere to the rules of their visiting country.
Mostly, it's the elitist entitlement people of America she's referring to, not the patriotic... but they tend (overall) to go hand-in-hand.
Personal experiences only.
This song seems really contrived for some reason... not saying she isn't sincere or anything... but the songwriting, lyrics, seems like shock/pop music more than anything.
