And I don't know where else to put my food. It sucks that we just went shopping too and I have a bunch of stuff in the freezer.

hmmm. do you have any espically nice neighbors? And send the man to walmart for ice and a cooler!
Get that out of there ASAP. A broken refridgerator can run up your electric bill like nothing else except a space heater.
Well...it turned back on, but it was off for quite a while. Maybe it's just old?
False alarm, I guess.
God what a pointless thread. LOL
Pull it out and clean the thick layer of dust coating the condenser coils on the back. Probably making it over heat since the coils can't radiate the heat away. It is using more electricity to run and is shutting down because of over heating.
Blah try that too. :)
Hmmmm...I shall have to get my bf to move the fridge. Thanks!
^ while he moves it, you have to graba cold drink, put your feet up and say things like, oh no, a little to the left... no no a bit more right... oh thats too much :D
(im just evil)
Well yeah! Your job is to be gorgeous, sexy, alluring, and available. His job is to move heavy things and kill icky things like spiders.
It's called a relationship. Hello! :D
The dusty goop on the back is probably sticky and nasty. Warm water with dawn dish soap after you have brushed off all you can with a broom or something. This may require rags you can throw away. While you have it out check to see if it is leaking refridgerant. If so, go shopping for a new fridge.
He checked the back and found it was relatively clean - and he didn't notice any leaking. Allegedly the motor had to be replaced once but it is still running. We should get a new fridge anyway but we can't afford it right now.
If you live near a big city check to see if there is a Sears- scratch and dent outlet. samething for any other big box store like Lowes, Home depot, Montgomery Wards, Best buy. Often they have a retail outlet though a warehouse that handles merchandise damaged by shipping. Functionally the stuff is brand new, just has a dent or scratches and can't be sold as new.
Relatively clean? ;)
Good idea.
And yes, it was a little bit dusty but not anything significant. You wouldn't want to eat off of it, but the amount of dust didn't seem like a deterrant to the appliance running properly.
OK, atleast brush the coils off though it would be better if you washed them, then make sure the fridge is four inches from the wall. this way air can circulate back there. This will help you fridge run better, exchange heat, and use less power.
Don't get the kind that is half fridge and half freezer. More expensive and the freezer isn't efficient enough. Chest type freezers are by far the best. The keep ALL the contents evenly frozen, don't dump all the cold air onto the floor when opened, and with a power outage keep thing frozen longer. Only downside to chest type freezers is rotating the contents.
Good luck! I love going to hardware stores! It's like Toys R Us.
When we moved into this house, it needed a fridge and a washer/dryer. After all the moving costs and stuff I wasn't prepared to shell out a huge chunk of cash. We searched around and found a reputable used appliance dealer. They've been great and have been going strong for over 4 years now at a fraction of the cost of new. They're not ugly and old looking, either. You should look into that, or maybe even Craigslist for a free/cheap one. Just a thought.
Dont forget to check the door seals for leaks. It isnt hard for a door to get warped and thus thew seals won't seal. This can lead to overheating (and a huge electric bill) if it runs continually.
Another thing, alternatively, think of a used refrig from an appliance repair place that also gives a decent warranty. People don't always need to buy 'new.'
