making friends
So today is my 21sty birthday- I am definately excited about it but ever since I moved away from home and away from all my friends from school I never took the time to make quality friends. It seems like all I do is work-and when I dont work I'm at home in a near coma recouperating from work, and so on and so on. So now that I'm 21m I feel like I should be celebrating, but who with? I like to believe the girls at work are my friends, but I realize now that they are like the "single serving friends" from Fight Club, lol. Youre friends with the girls while youre at the club, but in "real" life you're not. So what do you girls think I should do tonight? Go out to a club/bar by myself? Has anyone felt the same way I'm feeling now?

Re: making friends
First of all, Happy Birthday!
Yeah definitely has happened to me, especially when I am really busy I just don't make the effort to spend time with my friends and find I lose touch with them. It's hard when you have so much going on, I find its even harder when you're living in a big city.
Do you like going to bars/clubs yourself? If so then do it. Do whatever makes you happy, it is your birthday after all.

Re: making friends
Happy Birthday!!!
I also think you should go into work; You won't be celebrating by yourself and you can play up the I'm the birthday girl part.
Edit: Why not go today?(the next night shift)

Re: making friends
so how about go in just to hang out because it's your birthday? i worked on my actual birthday, but the night before (when i turned 21 at midnight) i went in just to hang out because all the bouncers and everything asked me to. its better than doing nothing!

Re: making friends
I worked on my 21st birthday and it was fun. If you have nothing else to do, go make yourself some money and have a few laughs even if you don't know the people your laughing with. Trust me you will be well taken care of by customers, you'll probably even get paid to have a birthday dinner with someone. I even remember my house mom brought a birthday cake out to the stage for me.

Re: making friends
Happy Birthday! My vote is to take the day off. I've never worked on my birthday and I don't ever plan to, but that's just me.
It's not impossible to make friends with girls outside of work, but only if you feel they can be trusted and if your values are similar.
I mean, some of the girls I work with are serious trainwrecks. They are far from public and I wouldn't want to be seen or even associated with them. So, I keep my distance from the majority of them, but we're not all bad.
Good luck with whatever you decide.
