I just saw this test on Dateline. It can determine your unconscious racial preferences. Pretty interesting! You can check it out here. www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18126034

I took the test...but it did not give results.
I couldn't do any demos. They all timed out within 30 seconds!
i reloaded and it worked. my results:

You have completed the African American - European American IAT.
Your Result
Your data suggest a moderate automatic preference for African American compared to European American.
Thank you for your participation. Just below is a breakdown of the scores generated by others. Most respondents find it easier to associate African American with Bad and European American with Good compared to the reverse.
then i read the FAQs and this question was interestingly answered:
Quote:
If my Black-White attitude IAT shows automatic White preference, does that mean that I’m prejudiced?
Answer: This is a very important question. Social psychologists use the word 'prejudiced' to describe people who endorse or approve of negative attitudes and discriminatory behavior toward various out-groups. Many people who show automatic White preference on the Black-White attitude IAT are not prejudiced by this definition. It is possible to show biases on the IAT that are not consciously endorsed, or are even contradictory to intentional attitudes and beliefs. People who hold egalitarian conscious attitudes in the face of automatic White preferences may able to function in non-prejudiced fashion partly by making active efforts to prevent their automatic White preference from producing discriminatory behavior. However, when they relax these active efforts, these non-prejudiced people may be likely to show discrimination in thought or behavior. The question of relation between implicit and explicit attitudes is of great interest to social psychologists, several of whom are doing research on that question for race-related attitudes.

What does it mean that my IAT score is labeled 'slight', 'moderate', or 'strong'?
Answer: Assume that you respond faster when flower pictures and pleasant words are paired on a single key than when insect pictures and pleasant words are paired on a single key. Your score would be described as showing automatic preference for flowers. (In general, a result shows an association between concepts that, when paired, get fast responding.) The labels 'slight,' 'moderate,' and 'strong' refer to the strength of the association (i.e. how strongly you associate flower pictures with pleasant words). No matter which IAT you took, if a speed difference between different pairings was so great as to be obvious to you, it would likely be labeled a 'strong' effect. The 'moderate' label also indicates a difference large enough so that you would probably notice it. A 'slight' effect is one that is noticeable in statistical analysis, but you may not have been aware of it.
so i guess what does that mean, an automatic preference? that i drift towards that type of a person in what context? i wish i could read their background materials which are "currently unavailable due to high traffic" on the server. this is not surprising to me as i chose to live in a community which is mostly black, and that's never bothered me. and i find it very odd when people comment to me in a negative fashion, or ask if i feel at odds with my neighbors because im the only white person on the block, because no! of course it doesn't bother me, my neighbors love me and i love them. actually they've accepted me more than my last neighborhood's community, which was about 48-48 black-white, 2% asian an 2% hispanic. i often get introduced as cousin alison to visitors on the block at block parties etc.. so, this was not at all a surprising result.

Funny, my results were exactly the same as yours Chrissy.
were your results surprising to you, Dylan?
lol- i just IMed my good friend (on here as Jesus 2.0) who said, "congrats, you're not a racist?"
Your data suggest a slight automatic preference for European American compared to African American.
it confused the hell out of me in the begining, i thought it was MAKING me choose bad/black. if i click good and black it was a X. i still kinda dont get it lol
I had to read it three times to understand the directions. So we're in the same boat.
I took a minute to think about this and no, I guess I'm not surprised.
I grew up in NYC in a predominantly non-white neighborhood, so I guess it's just what I know.
What I'm glad about is that my years of living in NJ, in a very rural area, hasn't changed me at all. I'm still me and what my family taught me early on has stuck.
And that's a good thing.;D Thanks for this Optimist.
Your welcome, chickie poo!
I'm not sure what to make of the test since I got a score like Malcolm X!!:O LOL!:rotfl: It's interesting. Maybe it's because I was raised in a predominantly black neighborhood. I went to very mixed schools and have had friends of all backgrounds since I was 5. And I'm not even going to begin on the rainbow tribe of hotties I've dated!! Mmmm, never met a hot man I didn't like! :couple: Go figure!
Mind you, I only got one wrong so I guess it measures negative biases as wrong answers and mere preferences by the speed of your reactions.
yea this was a great post. i fwded it to family and other non SW friends.
OK..I got it to work
You have completed the African American - European American IAT.
Your Result
Your data suggest little to no automatic preference between African American and European American.
Interesting. Although I grew up in an all white neighborhood ( there were 2 black kids at my school, and they were brother and sister) My family was all pretty racist as well. But I was different. I was never prejudiced towards anybody. In Vegas..there are all different races. I have worked with blacks, arab, indians....
My boyfriend is also very nonprejudiced, but his family was very accepting, where as mine was not.
SO what does that mean? Isnt rasism learned? Then why didn't I learn it? Does that mean I just instinctivly know whats right and wrong?
Interesting...
I got the same results as Chrissy68.... :S
Your data suggest a strong automatic preference for European American compared to African American.
Thank you for your participation. Just below is a breakdown of the scores generated by others. Most respondents find it easier to associate African American with Bad and European American with Good compared to the reverse.

Many of the questions that people commonly ask about the IAT are addressed in our background materials and FAQs, which are currently unavailable due to heavy traffic or server down time. Some of the more common FAQs appear below. If you would like to learn more about the IAT, please visit the site again at a later time, when our educational and background materials will be available.
OK I call bullshit! One every person can't get the same results, two the image was conveniently named for me when I went to save it in photobucket.
According to this, I hate norweigeners
Your Result
Your data suggest a slight automatic preference for Straight People compared to Gay People.
The interpretation is described as 'automatic preference for Straight People' if you responded faster when Straight people and Good words were classified with the same key than when Gay people and Good words were classified with the same key. Depending on the magnitude of your result, your automatic preference may be described as 'slight', 'moderate', 'strong', or 'little to no preference'. Alternatively, you may have received feedback that 'there were too many errors to determine a result'.
WTF... ME?!
^^^^Ha haaaa! What happens if you have a preference for transexuals? I was wondering what would happen if you substituted man/woman for black/white. So you and I were going in a similar direction.
I like how it asked if I was gay, straight or bi... or hispanic/non-hispanic... yeaaaahh.... it's a bit centred.
Your Result
Your data suggest little to no automatic preference between European American and African American.
there's a shock
