Yoga Mishap
So I went back to yoga today..it's been quite awhile since I've gone to class regularly...
Anyways, I'm feeling awesome--firstly because I got off my lazy ass and went to the gym, and secondly becuase I'm doing awesome!! I'm not as flexible as I used to be, but I am strong enough to handle all the poses..or so I think..
So I'm in side plank pose .. which we do like this:

exept the leg closest to the floor, I had sticking straight out in front of me..
So I'm proud that everyone is off balance and I'm standing strong, and I decided to look at my awesome pose in the mirror. The mirror is in the front of the room, and I had to kind of look up to see it. So I look up, lose my balance, and fall on my face. Hard.
It was so embarassing, I was like the Narcissus of yoga.. :'(
I considered leaving class early to go cry in the locker room, but I stuck it out. I can't believe I have to face these people again on Thursday ..

Re: Yoga Mishap
Almost as bad as being the "yoga farter." There's one in every class, I'm convinced.

Re: Yoga Mishap
Falling is one of the best lessons you can learn in yoga. Being able to continue in the class, and then return the following week - it goes right to the heart of letting go of ego and pride. Yoga SHOULD be humbling. There's never ever any such thing as "perfecting" a pose - and the more advanced the yogi, the more deeply they understand that. GOOD FOR YOU for continuing on!!!
I've fallen many many times - in fact, if you aren't falling occasionally, it really means that you're not taking any risks. You're playing it safe (probably to avoid looking foolish, which defeats the purpose anyway), not challenging yourself, and not getting close to your 'edge'. You should NOT feel embarrassed about falling, not at all - but look at the lesson that the experience taught you.
It was the very moment of checking your reflection out that caused you to lose your balance (this is speaking as someone who HAS TOTALLY been there, so please don't think I'm speaking ex cathedra here). I'll bet many of the people in class were focused enough on their own experience that they probably didn't even notice - and even if some did, they probably didn't care.
One of the truest things I ever read: "He who never makes mistakes - never makes anything."

Oh honey, please! Don't worry. I was a dance major in college, I can not TELL you how many times I fell, tripped, fucked up, couldn't do something, etc etc etc. Well over 100!! Everybody makes mistakes, nobody is going to care or judge you for it! They're all taking the class to better themselves, same as you.
