i am stupid (safety)
Okay, so I am Miss Conscientious when it comes to safety. I never ever give out personal information, ever, and and I don't advertise my occupation (I mean I dress plainly and I don't tell people where I work). But today I did something REALLY STUPID!
I was getting work done on my car and chatting with the guy and I let slip where I worked.
Guy:Gee its too nice a day to be working.
Me: Yeah sure is! I just gave my shift to a coworker so I could get out!
G: Oh where do you work?
M: [thinking..what restaurant do i work at? what restaurant?] Uh... over at the [strip club across the street].
G: Oh really! I go there for lunch sometimes, when do you work?
M: Oh, weekends.
He looked like he'd just found a hundred dollars, which was really unnerving.
Anyhow, then, because it was a chain place, when I went to pay he asked for all my information, you know name and address to put in the computer. Well for some reason I felt like I would get into trouble if I wasn't honest. Obviously this is not the case, but I'm such a well trained little consumer that I just did it automatically. He ended up giving me his card and saying he would come see me at the club. I'm kind of hoping I dont see him there and he'll think I quit, and he'll forget about me. I mean he might be a very nice normal guy, he even called me ma'am, but I just feel so stupid and sick to my stomach about the idea of anyone knowing anything about me. If I do see him, I don't know if it's better to be nice to him or to be chilly and not very friendly.

Re: i am stupid (safety)
hmm..dont beat yourself up over it, who knows he could become a regular for you..if he does come in and he is acting strange then i would say def. be chilly to him..maybe he never met a stripper before in "real life" you know how guys can be sometimes lol..

Re: i am stupid (safety)
^^^ yeah, you opened 'Pandora's Box' on this one. Hopefully the guy will turn out to be OK, but you definitely put yourself in a vulnerable position. I would definitely be nice to this guy, because (unfortunately) if he comes to the club and if you piss him off, he's in a position to tell other club customers your real name and address.

Re: i am stupid (safety)
When asked where I work: "In Surfers Paradise of a night"
If asked for specifics... "Just one of the nightclubs"
If asked for more specifics (doesn't usually get to this point)... I just pick one of the many nightclubs there and say "I do promo in the club".
Ah well. As the others have said... just play the situation by ear from now on. Maybe even think about changing mechanics???

Re: i am stupid (safety)
Most likely it will be okay, this stuff happens. Sometimes we can control it and sometimes we cant. Next time you'll be more wary.
I had a similar thing happen when I bought my car. That time I had to give my place of work and home address. After that, one of the men from the dealership would stare at me every time I dropped by to make payments. One day he showed up at my work. ...creepy...
I ignored him and he went away.

Re: i am stupid (safety)
Yeah i am not going to go back there. And I think if I see him at work, I will probably ignore him, even though I am really concerned about what Melonie said could happen. At the mechanics I felt unexpectedly vulnerable and so I think I was much more friendly than necessary, smiling and stuff. This morning he called to make sure the service was satisfactory (I think this is normal b/c its coporate?) but he spoke in a teasing familiar tone, and I said, "Excuse me who is this?" and then he apologized, identitfied himself, and said he was trying to make a joke. So... yeah. We'll see.
GCG, I need to have a prepared story! I have one at work, but not one for when I am not at work. This is where I tripped up. Ugh.

Re: i am stupid (safety)
If he causes you trouble, threaten to turn in a complaint about harrassment or stalking with his supervisor, the franchise or company owner, and to the police. Then do it! If he uses corporate information for personal use, he has violated the privacy laws.

Re: i am stupid (safety)
Ya, I suppose you could make a preemptive move and call his supervisor now - jsut explain that you feel a little uncomfortable and ask what is done with your personal information, where it is kept and who has access. Not that he already didn't copy it down, but it would maybe send a message...
otherwise, it is most likely fine, and he is just being a dork and all awestruck to be able to call a stripper at home ::) .

Re: i am stupid (safety)
Don't ever be afraid to lie!! LOL. Hopefully nothing will come from this.
I got super scared not that long ago...some guy came up to me and said, "Do you drive a black eclipse?" (which I do) and I was like freaking out, and said no, I don't have my driver's liscence. He goes, "that's funny, we were checking you out while you were driving down LV Blvd with your top down." (The top on my car, not my shirt)
I was like, "Ahhh!!!"
It was scary, and I felt violated, even though I hadn't done anything unsafe or wrong.
